The process of referring patients to India predates Ms Blandina as a PS at the Ministry of Health, I believe the Apollo Consortium of Hospitals entered an MOU with the Ministry of Health when Ms Mwafisi was in the Office. What is clear now is the trend that has seen more patients being referred there than was case previously.
Mzee invisible could actually get data to prove what am saying, Ms Blandina took advantage of the system enforced more detailed links with Apollo, that she used to or she is getting a kickback from there for all the cases posted there is up for speculation.
Wahindis are a very honest people, any serious inquery by people in authority will reveal facts that could help the Nation prevent siphoning of billions that could have been employed in improving Health Delivery Facilities in Tanzania.
Its sad that we have come this far, a simple survey of Health facilities with prices that are cheaper than what Apollo charges will have prevented loss of so much money as has been done with Apollo.
CMC Vellore in Tamil Nadu is a state of the art facility that trains Doctors and treats patients from all walks and crawla of life and trully the Government could have established a link with it for superspecialized training like the University of Bergen has done in filling capacity gaps in Nephrology and Cardiology!

It is very possible that, private practice in India is driven by pay back system, you refer a patient to Apollo you get paid.

I just don't have evidence but I am sure move za hospitali kukusanya wagonjwa na kuwapeleka India zitakuwa driven by this payment system, I bet our officials may also be involved.

And these people are serious about that business, Apollo wanaanza kuwapa huduma wagonjwa Dubai, so from the airport you start getting services.

And the practice is made in such a way unafanyiwa vipimo vingi kadiri inavyowezekana, including those you don't need, the aim being to maximize the cost.

I am posted at Christian Medical College Hospital in India, this is a hospital which is not business oriented, but it is the best cardiology centre in India, it is one of the best nephrology centre in India also, iko Tamil Nadu km 120 kutoka Chennai.

The cost of services here is 1/3 ya gharama za Apollo and the like, the cost is even cheaper as compared to cost of some services in Nairobi (kuna mgonjwa alikuwa na leukemia Nairobi, gharama ya matibabu Nairobi ilitosha kulipia usafiri, matibabu gharama za kuishi hapa Vellore na akabaki na change), but guess what, no one is referring patient to CMC even in India itself because this hospital does not entertain the system of pay back!!!!!

It is very sad in deed!
