The British themselves admitted the Mau Mau resistance depleted their resources and morale and did not wish any longer to fight. The Mau Mau who were in the forest continued armed resistance until 1963. More specifically, the British had to spend enormous financial resources to build concentration camps where they took women and children to stay. They had to provide security to these people. They had to provide food. They had to pay the homeguards. They had to build prisons and internment camps where the men were taken.
Despite all this wastage of financial resources, the Mau Mau were still fighting in the forest. Political leaders were still fighting. Trade union leaders were still fighting. USSR was also helping Kenyans with the struggle. After killing so many people and yet the people were still fighting they saw the writing on the wall.

Maji maji rebellion happened a long time ago and did not result into any political progress for the locals. Infact the Germans became more brutal and repressive. When the British took over from the Germans, they did so under a caretaker basis. Therefore they did not settle in TZ. They settled in Kenya. The settlers did not want to leave Kenya because they had property here, they had land, houses, and busineses in Kenya. The British settlers refused to leave Kenya without a fight. However, they were willing to give TZ independence without a fight because TZ was not that important to Britain, after all TZ was just an outpost that they got after defeating the Germans in world war one.
