MOMBASA: The Government has warned of decisive action against the radicalisation of Muslim youths believed to be behind runaway crime at the Coast.

This is the first time the Office of the President has spoken about Muslim youth radicalisation in the region, that is blamed for a wave of daring takeovers of mosques, killing of members of the clergy and arson attacks on churches.

Deputy President William Ruto said the Government was concerned over increased radicalisation and recruitment of Muslim youths from the Coast to fight for terrorists groups in the region adding that they would weed out the radicals.

Ruto said they would deploy the military where necessary to combat the in security in the country.

He did not however elaborate the strategies the Government would use to stop the vice.

Forceful takeovers
In the past, an interfaith religious forum-Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics-which brings together leaders from all religions has said lack of money has hindered efforts to fight radicalisation.

"The Government will mobilise all resources available and take decisive action to make sure we stop the radicalisation,"€ said Ruto yesterday after unveiling 21 police vehicles contributed by the Mombasa business community to the Mombasa County government.

Radical Islamic youths, believed to be from Musa Mosque associated with slain Sheikh Aboud Rogo, had early this month been accused of being behind forceful takeovers of mosques.

The youths took over Sakina in Majengo and Liwatoni mosques on Mombasa Island. They also tried to take over Umar bin Khatab Mosque in Kisauni and another in Likoni.

The government will need to establish what drives the youth to this vice in the first place. You cannot just send in the military. It might breed more dissent.

Is it not hard,,for every country to find out,,what drives their citizens to terrorism???

Here,,people will want to associate it,,terrorism,,, with poverty,,,,,what about in Saudi
Arabia,,Yemen???

Was Osama,, himself not a very wealthy man.

Is poverty only at the coastal areas of Kenya????

What about in Turkana where people are dying from hunger????
Why are they not taking terrorism as a way out when we know
that Turkana area has more AK-47's G3's and all manner of
armaments,,,hundred times than at coastal areas?????

Let the police storm into mosques and wherever there is
terror and weed it out.

Hear them,,,foolishly complaining that the police got into
the mosque,,the other day without taking the shoes off,,

An AK-47 was found in the mosque,,where did the Quoran
say that Mosques should become,,an armory.

These people are very ignorant,,,they are giving Islam a very
bad image,,,and that is why Supreme council of Muslim of
Kenya defended the Kenyan police and told them to go
everywhere and deal with terrorist,,for they do not speak
for true Muslim.

This is Kenya and not Saudi Arabia,,,you have the freedom
of worship but you will never hide guns and grenades in a
mosque and expect Kenyan police,,first to take out shoes,
wash hands and foot,,,get into the mosque,,,pray the noon
prays and after that,,ask the sheikh if there are guns in the
mosque,,,,,

No way,,,the Kenyan police will storm the Mosques with
guns blazing,,rungus and tear gas and those so called
faithful will end up in jail,,if not dead and the cries of
Allahu Akbar will be of no use as it happened the other
day.

We live in the modern days and,,they better come out
of caves,,for they are still in hundred years back,,where
religion was everything.
