Wetangula accused of hate speech

TNA yesterday accused Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula of propagating hate speech against Jubilee Coalition presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta.

The party is now asking the police and director of public prosecutions to take action against the Trade minister. Wetangula is a member of Cord Alliance led by Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

TNA said yesterday that during a Cord rally in Ukambani, Wetangula said Uhuru wants to sell a land which his family is accused of allocating itself, in order to "get money to bribe people to vote for him."

The party's director of legal affairs, Jasper Mbiuki, termed the remarks by Wetangula as "blatant and total disregard to the facts" about the Kenyatta family wealth.

"Hon Uhuru Kenyatta is on public record challenging his competitors to table any evidence of his alleged involvement in land grabbing. Instead they continue to take comfort in outright propaganda, innuendo and negative campaigns. They have never stated for instance how they would solve the issue of land, while the Jubilee team has given several solutions including but not limited to the full automation of land records and management of the registry," Mbiuki said.

During the Cord rally Wetangula had said; "My brother, my friend Uhuru Kenyatta, has no capacity to lead this country and doesn't deserve to lead this country.
Because we know that that land was not bought, it was grabbed, and now it is being sold so as to get money to bribe people to vote for them so that they can get back into power. And we are telling you, you must refuse this."

Mbiuki said the statement by Wetangula was reckless adding that the relevant authorities should take action against the minister without delay.

"We wish to remind those agencies that sweeping this matter under the rug will only encourage others to make similarly reckless, untrue, inflammatory and malicious statements. No one is above the Law. No politician can be allowed to endanger the fragile peace in this Country merely because they are hell-bent on gaining political power; no matter what the cost," Mbiuki said.

He added that TNA was calling on voters to reject leaders who were out to incite people against each other and divided them during the campaign period.

"Hon. Kenyatta and the Party wish to unequivocally and categorically deny the veracity of the statement made by Hon. Wetangula. Hon. Kenyatta is not using inducements or coercion in order to advance his campaign. Frankly speaking, he does not need to. His popularity is rising by the day. It is based on the fact that millions of Kenyans have come to know him, his character, beliefs and ideologies," Mbiuki said.

Even those with no wealth or have few possessions simply know that it is rather impossible for one human being to be responsible for the problems of every tom dick and harry, in this case wetangula wants to balkanize some voters with hate speech against jubilee principal. And this is a campaign strategy that sent this nation to the gates of hell in 2007/08. I wonder where those that implement the constitution against incitement are failing at the responsibility?

By wetangula making such suggestions, he still believes that voters this time do not have their thinking caps on their heads. yes we know kenyans before have been taken as fools and have been mislead to carry out on behalf of politicians selfish interests in the name of human rights.
