just by the sheer cargo volume numbers handled by the mombasa seaport would show just how small the tanzanian seaport is. the kenyan port handle twice the number of cargo as the tanzanian port(16million tonnes in 2007 while the dar port handled 7million tones in the same year) and the kenyan port clears the cargo faster than its tanzanian counterpart the average cargo vessel turnaround in the kilindini seaport is 3 days compare that to tanzania's 5 days!!!
it takes cargo 6 days to leave the port of mombasa. the mombasa port runs 24/7 because it has an automated system. in 2010 the automation process will be complete and the mombasa port will be operating paperless. what about the dar port???
the dar port has 11 deep sea berths while the kenya port has 16 deep see berths!!!!
the mombasa port expansion will be complete in 2015.
plans are already underway for the northern corridor which will include another seaport in lamu, a free trade zone, a standard gauge railway line interconnecting kenyan cities ethiopia and sudan and a highway is already being built connecting ethiopia and kenya which will later connect to the lamu port.
tanzania port will take dacades before it ever catches up with the kenyan port
dont forget the fact that it is cheaper to ship via the mombasa port than the dar port.
anyway if you think i am making this stuff up then read this article and realise why you are a dumbass for what you said and why tanzania seport is waaay inferior to its kenyan counterpart.
