I have PROGRAMMED myself to answer that question “properly”.

Every interview, every meeting, every interlude, every “casual drinks” in the evening.

I get asked the question:

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

And this is where my insecurities or defences kick in,

Because then there is a long list of ambitious ideas I mention, and plans to change the world I begin listing.

But in all honesty,

I have programmed myself to answer that question “properly”

Because if I can’t, I feel I appear incompetent, ignorant, unfocused, lacking in diligence.

But between me and this page,

Where do I see myself in 5 years?

I don’t know… Maybe a mogul? Maybe a wise man in a village somewhere remote?

Because today, I may want to save the world, but yesterday I just wanted to lay awake, past late in bed with my girl.

Is it not enough for me to just want to be ALIVE and..happy?

Because I’ve seen too many people stick to the plans to better their luck, but then they just end up STUCK.

I know they create detailed 5 year plans for the presidents and politicians, but there are certain things you can’t plan for, ask Clinton.

You can build a House of Cards, but you never know when the joker in the deck,

may start poking his neck.

One of my favourite quotes growing up,

“Man plans, and God laughs.”

Whether you believe in God or not, the sentiment is simple it enough.

It basically means, that the future is unpredictable, so why should we be?

See I always assumed the correct answer to this question was physical, but maybe it’s closer to being spiritual.

Disclaimer: I’m not no guru.

So I don’t want you to give me a version you practiced in the mirror, or the vision that you think is clearer, or makes you look clever.

So don’t tell me “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” rather tell me,

WHO do you see yourself as in 5 years?

I cant see myself in 5 years
cause sometimes i do have plans and suddenly within a blink of an eye everything changes...can't tell the future

Here is one of my favourite quotes from Diane Von Furstenberg :-
"I didn't know what I wanted to do but I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be"
I don't know what the future holds and what exactly will be happening to me in 5 years but I know the kind of person I want to be. I know 5 years from now I'll be more mature, independent, confident and I hope I'll be giving less c--p of what people think about me. And I do my best to grow into the person that I should be.

this is not a tricky questions. Most times you get this questions at interviews for those who look for places for 'jobbing';

Your answer need to be in line with what you are applying for, no tricks no magic. So you got to be careful, if you answer is not relevant to the work you are applying for, its very unlikely they will offer you anything.

But if its social setting, the best way is to have a diary or have a rough plan of what you want to be doing 5 years from now.

Wow..I had a handful of insights..In my opinion I think it's best to be honest to yourself and the one asking rather than give a long tailored explanation.
