Getting streetwise - fraternizing with hoi polloi- is smart idea!

NEC reforms should include security of tenure, transparency in election announcements to include constituents to announce and publish presidential vote in their constituencies, unofficial tallying and publishing of constituent presidential votes, registration of voters on daily basis up to two weeks before election and court challenges to disputes of presidential votes.

Equally important, is the distribution of commissioners' positions to reflect immediate election presidential and parliamentary vote distributed in equal weighting.

If ccm got an average of 50% in statistical weight of the immediate presidential and parliamentary vote then their share of commissioners should not exceed 50%.

Other parties should also get their fare share of nominations.

Presidential results to be announced within 48 hrs of closure of polling booths and past scapegoats behind delayed announcements of presidential vote holds no water as technology now bails us out.

No more excuses of big country with many bad roads, heavy downpour to coverup election rigging. With access to internet we should accept no less but punctuality in ending the past sleazy narrating why our leaders do not carry our aspirations but theirs.

The NEC Chair be popularly elected by fellow members after successful parliamentary confirmation hearings and beforehand the president to officially nominate the political party appointees and parliament to vet them with over simple majority of votes.

Vetting should include soliciting public scrutiny of the appointees in affidavits before relevant parliamentary committees.

Removal of commissioners should involve similar security of tenure safeguards available to judges.

The biggest problem for Lubuva and co. is refusal to seek public input to their reform recommendations!

Dissociating from the partisan local governments is a stellar move but by afar falls short of our collective aspirations to free and fair elections.
