What East african countries are trying to do is to create a big market for all the people of E Africa, not for Kenyans only and we are not forcing anyone for we are still doing fine.

There are many fears that we might dominate all the markets. This fear is being spread by
some selfish politicians and people who do not know what is the meaning of a ' market'

You have your own style which suits you and we have our own and is okay for us and we never
complain..

Yes we have been parsuing the concept of private ownership.

This has allowed competitons among us and we love it that way.

If i own a company, i think about it all the time, wake up very early in the morning, draw
new plans, invent new ways of doing things easier and cheaply.

If it is ours, why care wake up very early in the morning when there are other people who
can do that?

This private companies employ many people who are well paid and also generate most of all taxes which the government needs.

Most of the corruption cases are found in the government quarters and in those poor performin government parastatals.

Workers in those parastatals 'mali ya umma' are poorly paid. Mismanangement, corruption and laziness is the order of the day.

You will never find mismanangement and corruptions in private entarprises kwani hauwezi kuiba kutoka kwa kampuni yako, lakini kama ni ya umma utachota kitu kidogo as we say here.

Since the privatation of the Kenya Telecom, now the phones are working and its workers are well paid than before.

If you need help from them, you get it promptly than before when you had to wait for those abusive and lazy workers to have their tea.

The company is partly owned by the french and partly by government.

I'm writting this through their Orange broadband service.

Before this, it was a miracle if your call went through.

Here in Kenya, you get better treatment and service in private hospitals.

You have a choice to go to governments ones where you have to wait for longer for doctors
to finish talking on their phones.

You also have a choice to take your children to government schools or private ones.

We had those nyayo busses 'mali ya Umma' which went down very fast because of
mismanangement and corrupton.

So anything 'Umma' here seems to be doing very badly and that is why most of people
are supporting that it is time that we go 90% privatization in all quarter and just leave things
like some roads,some hospitals as as 'ya Umma'.

I would even advocate that there should be no free things like free education for it is bringing
down the quality of education.

For the past few years, in the primary education, the privately owned schools have been performing better than those government owned schools where you find teachers reading newspapers all the time.

A teacher has to perform in private schools and you will never see a teacher carrying a newspaper.

Most of the teachers in the government schools are running away to look for jobs in those privately owned ones for they earn salaries which is almost twice as the one paid by the government.

you have put this very well. people always say that kenyans dont own anything in their country. well i would prefer if orange owns telecom kenya because that will translate to better communicationg services for me. this is what people do not understand, we kenyans really dont care who owns what as long as the job is getting done. i rather have vodafone own majority of safaricom becasue that will translate to kenyans enjoying things like M-PESA before anyone else in the planet does. this is how kenyans think

they wont understand, blame it on Ujamaa, unless you are ready to explain it to them like you explaining to six year old, using stick drawings and stuff. Through out your country people are screaming about the unjust distribution of the national wealth. Few people are enjoying on the large tract of land while the mass are squatting and tenting along the roads, halafu wewe nomasana unasema you dont care, nani kawaloga?!!!

I always say you guyz be wise in understandaing things. So for you nomasana employment is enough to feel that you are incorporated in the economy. Don't you know that most of the employees in those establishments are cheep labourers.

Nimeeleza kwamba ni vigumu hali za common mwananchi ku-improve ktk mfumo huu kwa sababu systematically huu mfumo una-centralize utajiri kwa kikundi fulani tu cha watu na kuwaacha wengi wetu nje tukiwa hatuna kitu. Ktk mfumo huu ili kila mtu ashibe inabidi kuwe na infinite resources, which is not the case. Kwa hiyo kuna umuhimu wa kuwa na system inayoangalia kugawanya hizi resources, hapo ndipo nikagusia fikra za Nyerere, lakini pathetically kuna watu wakajaribu ku-refute bila kuelewa wanacho-refute.

For those who worship Washington Consensus (of course and also British) can't understand Nyerere school of thought. Because they cultivating the selfishness and arrogance ideas.
The continental Europe seem to apply Nyerere ideas in modern way. Countries like as Germany, The Netherlands, and Scandinavia are making sure that every citizen is not left out of the berry jar. Every one should get involved in economy.

But my concern is how we Africans can implement a sociolistic market economy (china (SINO) technoque), a high measure of freedom to involve in economic activities with a graduated government internvesion.

From my point of view, there is a very big possibility that Uganda and Tanzania can overtake Kenya economically.
This will depend on the seriousness in allocating well their resources towards the expansion of their economy.
For instance, Tanzania should
improve its services at her Dar es Salaam Port so that More landlocked countries like Malawi, Zambia etc can proceed using it in passing their imports and exports as well.
Railway from Dar es Salaam to Nairobi should be relaunched especially at this time when EAC is at it peak, this will assist exploiting well the opportunity.
Construction of roads to a tarmac level from production areas to the marketing one-i.e Southern regions like Ruvuma, Mbeya, Iringa and Rukwa should be taken care of to increase food and cash crops.

Cha mno ni mfumo wa kisiasa katika nchi husika na utetezi wa haki za wanyonge.

Forgive me for pointing out that if the "Nyerere school of thought" actually worked Tanzania should have been way ahead by now. The good that came out of african socialism is unity and the bad is lack of basic education leading to a lack of skilled labour. It is only recently that the country was pulled out of an economic slump noting that the ideologies have not been re-applied. Additionally countries in continental Europe would not take away from people who they thought had too much. On a final note presently due to corruption and widespread greed the very poor dont even know when aid is supposed to come their way since it is gobbled up before it reaches them. So what needs to be eradicated is the widespread corruption and greed.

It is an interesting article which is well written and balanced in its views. I think the minerals in Tanzania are strengthening the economy. On the other hand the growing resentment to foreigners and foreign investment is growing. If it continues in this way it would have adverse effects on the economy.

At least am seeing intersections being built, the roads being refurbished, new airports being built, better services in gvt. institution,new industries and stuff, despite all the corruption. I know I sound blunt as f.uck, but truth be told, at least for the first time we are seeing where our tax money is spent, s.hit is being done. Imagine 24 years under Moi, no roads or anything but we still managed to survive it, so Kibaki's leadership is a walk over, we will always stay winning, and you will always say that you will catch up after seven years or something, that's loosing, the faster you accept it the better. You have minerals for crying out loud, your land is fertile, your goverment is still not corrupt (compared to our standards), you have a population of over 40 milli, now whats holding you back? Kenya has nothing except for ITS HIGHLY SKILLED LABOR FORCE and its infamous politicians, we good bro hate us or love us, we good in this paper chasing stuff. Air it out

town ijulikanae kama Ngong Hills, 23 km from Nairobi.

95% of this money was achieved locally.

We do not have any usefull minerals and all that is
taxation from Kenya people and

This is exactly what I have been trying to say. Kwamba capitalism does not favor the majority of our people in Africa.
