TANZANIA’S ‘SPICE ISLAND‘ TO BENEFIT FROM NEW FLIGHTS

(Posted 15th December 2016)

In time for the imminent high tourist season over the end of year holiday period has Turkish Airlines launched flights to Zanzibar yesterday.
The new service will route from Istanbul via Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar and back from there to Istanbul and operate initially three times a week using a Boeing B737-900NG.
Zanzibar has subsequently become Turkish Airlines’ 50th African destination making it the leading non African airline offering flights into the continent. Other destinations served in East Africa are Entebbe, Kigali, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam while in the wider region does Turkish fly to Mogadishu, Asmara, Djibouti and Addis Ababa.
Zanzibar has in recent years seen several new five star resorts launched while long time crowd favourites like Blue Bay Hotels have upgraded and modernized to stay in the top game of attracting tourists from around the world.
The Turkish Airlines service via Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar is clearly geared towards capturing the global tourism traffic which in this case can offer travelers the experience of both safaris and a sun and sand vacation all wrapped into one.

MORE DOMESTIC DESTINATIONS SERVED WITH NEW AIRCRAFT

(Posted 13th December 2016)

The new team installed at Air Tanzania, and under orders by both President Magufuli and his transport minister to show results or else, has wasted no time to put the two new Bombardier Q400NG aircraft to good use.
The airline presently serves Hahaya / Comoros, the only international destination Air Tanzania flies to, three times a week every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but had notably cranked up domestic destinations.
Arusha’s municipal field is now served six times a week, daily with the exception of Wednesdays, according to the latest scheduling information, avoiding for now the more costly and distant Kilimanjaro International Airport which is more than 50 kilometres from the city of Arusha.
Mwanza, Tanzania’s second largest city, is now served daily again with a mid morning departure from Dar es Salaam. Kigoma is another destinations ATCL is now flying to again, according to schedule information five times a week.
The Spice Island of Zanzibar too is back on line with five flights a week but it is anticipated that once flight loadfactors have grown this destination will see flights every day of the week.
Other destinations are under planning, among them a likely return to Mtwara, Tanzania’s so called ‘Gas Capital‘ but also to Mbeya – this airport being a challenge as a result of often having no fuel. In the region are planners said to be eying Nairobi again as well as Entebbe, since earlier this month Fastjet withdrew from both routes leaving a glaring gap in connectivity to Kenya and Uganda.
In a related development has the airline now also advertised for recruitment of trainees for cabin crews, a further indicator that when the third new Bombardier Q400NG arrives, to be followed by two Bombardier CS300’s, there will be not only new destinations served by also jobs created in the process.

787 Dreamliner to become part of Air Tanzania fleet
787-8 is first ever wide-body order for 'The Wings of Kilimanjaro'
Boeing and the United Republic of Tanzania have confirmed an order for one 787-8 Dreamliner, valued at $224.6 million at list prices. The aircraft will be operated by Air Tanzania, the flag carrier of Tanzania.

Air Tanzania said, "The 787 Dreamliner will be the flagship aircraft as we renew and grow the Air Tanzania fleet. We aim to establish our long-haul capability by starting flights to Europe, Asia and the U.S.A over the coming years and the 787 is the perfect aircraft to achieve this ambition."

The 787 is a family of technologically advanced, super-efficient airplanes with new passenger-pleasing features. In addition to bringing big-jet ranges to midsize airplanes, the 787 will provide Air Tanzania with unmatched fuel efficiency and environmental performance, using 20 to 25 percent less fuel and with 20 to 25 percent fewer emissions than the airplanes it replaces.

"I am pleased to welcome Air Tanzania as the newest member of the Dreamliner family,” said Van Rex Gallard, Vice President, Latin America, Africa & Caribbean Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We are honored that Air Tanzania has chosen the 787 to operate its long-haul operations. The 787 will significantly increase passenger numbers feeding on to its domestic flights thereby boosting overall tourism to Tanzania."

Air Tanzania Company Limited is the flag carrier of Tanzania based in Dar es Salaam with its hub at Julius Nyerere International Airport and currently flies to destinations in Tanzania with a growing fleet of airplanes.

Due to increased demand this December, dreamliner will be serving Nairobi mombasa routes...

Kenya Airways has introduced a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Mombasa route in a bid to take up more passengers heading to the Coast region during the festive season.

Chris Diaz, director of communications, said on Thursday that the airline will also deploy a Boeing 787 on December 23 and 24 following the high traffic expected at that time.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has 234 seats of which 30 are of the Premier Class and 204 being of the Economy Class.

The capacity of the plane is higher than the Embraer 190 of 96-passenger capacity that normally plies the route.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will also operate the route on January 2 and January 3," Diaz said.

"We have seen increased demand on the Mombasa route ahead of the festive season necessitating the need to increase capacity," he added.

Diaz said Kenya Airways plays a major role in boosting the economy of Mombasa during the festive season when demand mainly driven by the domestic market increases.

Lapsset gets additional 100 million USD from GoK....

The government will allocate a further Sh10 billion for construction of the first three berths at Lamu port in the next financial year, Transport Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera has said.
When the project started in the 2016/2017 financial year, it was also allocated Sh10 billion.
Mr Nyakera said the works were progressing well slightly ahead of schedule at 12.5 per cent against a projected 12 per cent since construction kicked off with offices for the headquarters already complete.
“Construction of the three berths will be completed in late 2018 ready to receive the first vessel in 2019. Our objective in building the berths is to open the project to private investors.
"Initially, some people raised concerns over the viability of this project but as you can see it is progressing well,” he said.
Cargo evacuation
Mr Nyakera said to ensure proper evacuation of cargo from the port, the government was fast-tracking construction of the 115-kilometre Lamu-Witu-Garsen and Lamu-Garisa-Isiolo roads whose contracts had been awarded.
He spoke on Friday at the Lamu port headquarters after a joint meeting between the Lapsset Authority and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) boards held their first joint parley and took a tour of the project to assess its progress.
Currently, a contractor is dredging the harbour to a depth of 18 metres and reclaiming part of the ocean where the container stacking yard will be located.
The port is projected to be one of the biggest in Africa, receiving post panamax vessels with a capacity of 19,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) owing to the deep waters, allowing KPA to do trans-shipment business.
Mombasa port can accommodate vessels of up to 6,000 TEUs

Unlike your ATL in that banana republic of yours where the president makes a decision about a national airline, then decides to allocate millions of dollars without presenting a clear business plan to be discussed and approved by parliament first...
Over here management of day to day decision about KQ are made by independent institution based on informed decisions and not some beaurocrat sitting in a govt Ministry... If there is enough traffic can fly from one end of the city to the other end of the same city! You can damn well use a freaking dreamliner....

Can you calculate the cost of flying embaers each carrying 90 persengers and the cost of flying two dreamliners each with +200 passengers (since there will be more than enough traffic) over the same distance..... How many rounds (and fuel)will the embraes need to go, to move all the many persengers this high season compared to two fuel efficient dreamliners...
