Hii Budalangi constituency iko ndani ya Busia county lakini constituencies zingine za Busia hazina mafuriko. Busia border yenyewe haina mafuriko geza. Hii constituency ya Budalangi imekuwa na shida ya mafuriko kuanzia zamani. Hata mwaka wa early 2000s, kulikuwa na mafuriko makubwa lakini yalipungua wakati dykes zilijengwa.

Njia ya kuenda Busia border sio hio pekee. Kuna nyingine ya kupitia Kisumu. Pengine huko Tanzania kwa sababu ya umasikini ndio kuna njia moja tu kuenda Dar es Salaam.

A key road linking three counties in the western Kenya region has been closed to traffic after a bridge on River Nzoia developed cracks following heavy rains.
Hundreds of commuters heading to Bungoma, Kakamega and Busia counties were Monday morning forced to seek alternative routes to their destinations after part of the bridge linking the three counties collapsed.
The river has burst its banks resulting to a flooding crisis in the region.
Police have blocked both ends of the bridge to prevent motorists or pedestrians from crossing the now dangerously hanging bridge.
CRACKS ON BRIDGE
The bridge, built in 1962, developed cracks on Saturday night following a heavy downpour, forcing motorists to use one lane after police officers moved in to control traffic, before it caved in on Monday morning.
It is on the main of Mumias-Bungoma road which links the three counties and extends to Kisumu, Eldoret and Uganda. It also connects the sub-counties of Mumias and Matungu.
Motorists heading to Bungoma and Busia are either forced to move through Kakamega-Webuye-Bungoma or risk using another bridge on the same river that was built by Mumias Sugar Company linking Musango-Indangalasia areas in Mumias and Matungu sub-counties, which has also been partially submerged in water.
WATER LEVELS
The bridge was built during the colonial era in 1962 by the Japanese after the then existing bridge was carried away by floods.
According to Mr Asman Karakacha, 90, from Nyakwaka village, that was the last time the water levels in the river rose to worrying levels.
He recalled the situation then, which has now been replayed. He was coming back from Kampala where he worked as a clerk when he found that the bridge had been carried away.
“I was forced to go through Turbo in Eldoret to reach Mumias. In the following year, 1962, this bridge was constructed,” Mr Karakacha told the Nation.
FAMILIES AFFECTED
At least 250 families in Mumias West Sub-County and 110 from Matungu have been affected by the flash floods that have submerged their houses and destroyed property of unknown value after the river broke its banks.
An estimated 40,000 people have been displaced in Busia County, also as a result of the swollen River Nzoia.
In Kisumu and Siaya, residents and leaders are concerned about the safety of some bridges in the region, saying they are a disaster in waiting.
Residents of Kisumu East, Nyando and Usenge in Bondo Sub-County fear that lives could be lost if the government, through various road agencies, does not act fast to prevent a possible calamity.
The bridges include Ayweyo in Nyando, Kambogo in Kisumu East and Usenge-Majimbo in Bondo.
APPEAL TO KENHA
Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir and locals led by John Riaga claim their calls to have the Kambogo bridge, which is on the Mamboleo-Guba-Miwani road, have fallen on deaf ears. The bridge has been partly washed away.
The bridge connects Mamboleo to Guba and Miwani and has heavy traffic including trucks that ferry building materials from quarries and sugarcane to Kibos Sugar Factory.
"Are we going to wait for a disaster to happen before something is done on this bridge?" asked Mr Riaga.
Mr Shabbir told the Nation the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has not responded to requests to attend to the bridge.
"This road was budgeted for but we are surprised that every year, its construction is overlooked. KeNHA should take this seriously," said Mr Shabbir.
RIVER YALA
Another affected road is Usenge-Majimbo-Osieko Road at the Goye Causeway. The causeway is the channel through which River Yala drains into Lake Victoria.
Following the heavy downpour witnessed in Usenge over the past few days, the causeway has been covered with water, with locals risking by speeding across it, as well as motorists carrying heavy loads.
“The water has already covered the road. We fear that if the rains continue the Lake Victoria water will spread backwards to River Yala and wash away the road and this could result in deaths,” said Florence Adoyo Otieno, a resident of Nyangera in Usenge.
ALERT
Already KeNHA has issued alerts on the situation of causeway.
In a Twitter post, KeNHA cautioned motorists plying Kisian-Bondo-Usenge-Osieko of the overtopping of River Yala at the causeway and urged them to exercise caution following the heavy rains experienced in Nyanza region and its environs.
Meanwhile, it was a relief for motorists and residents plying the Ahero-Kisii route after a section of the road swept away by floods was reopened. Building of the road has been going on for nearly a month.
Ayweyo bridge collapsed last month following heavy rains, leaving residents to use the longer and expensive Ahero-Awasi-Katito route.

Karma is a bitch so lets see how the trucks from Mombasa to Kampala n Kigali will get to Malaba or Busia border! JPM don't allow a truck from Mombasa to enter Tanzania. Now Webuye bridge is next on death bed!
As far as i know MGR to Malaba from Naivasha is not working.
Going to the road options available a road to Uganda border via could have been another alternative!
But unfortunately here is the Sigiri bridge across Nzoia river that was supposed to offer an alternative!
Current situation on the ground around Busia see river Nzoia! Only a fool can argue of a danger for a complete paralysis!

Kajiado county government has indefinitely closed its three border entry points to Tanzania to avert a possible spread of coronavirus from the neighbouring country.
Governor Joseph ole Lenku said the entry points at Namanga, Loitoktok and Shompole pose a threat to the fight to tame deadly virus because too many illegal immigrants from Tanzania are entering Kenya through them.
Kenya also shares border crossing points with Tanzania—whose Covid-19 infections now stand at 480 with 16 reported deaths at Lunga Lunga, Isebenia, Taita Taveta and Holili.
However, Tanzania has been accused of taking a lacklustre approach in the fight against deadly respiratory flu, with reports that President John Magufuli was considering restarting the Tanzania Premier League matches after a six-week break.
Yesterday, Magufuli whose government has been criticised for being secretive and dismissive on pandemic and has previously asked Tanzanians to pray the coronavirus away, said the figures of positive are questionable, claiming the testing kits had “technical errors”.
He said the kits had returned positive results on samples taken from a goat and a pawpaw.
In mid March, the country closed all schools and extended a ban on public gatherings including schools, football leagues, sports, music events, political meetings and community events.
And on Saturday, Tanzania’s leading opposition party called for the suspension of Parliament after three legislators died from unknown causes in the past 11 days.
Augustine Mahiga, Tanzania’s minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs died on Friday with no official explanation over his death. The others are Getrude Rwakatare and Richard Ndassa.
And speaking at Tarakea Loitoktok yesterday, Lenku also directed the suspension of trading between residents of the two neighbouring East Africa Community states.
“Tens of people are using panya routes to enter our country and specifically Kajiado county. We cannot allow any compromise on issues of our health,” said Lenku.
He stressed that despite the existing EAC bilateral trade links that allow free movement of people across the two countries, the county cannot allow further trade.
He further banned livestock trade, which see thousands of cattle from Tanzania make their way to Ilbisil market and Shompole markets every market day.
“We understand the directive will have adverse economic effects to all of us but we better struggle to revive an ailing economy than lose lives through ignorance,” said Lenku.
He also urged security officers manning the border points to observe stringent measures of ensuring only essential services trucks enter the country.
The governor further wants truck drivers delivering food stuff warned against making stopovers along the way and having the drivers escorted to places of offloading and back to their country.
Lenku has urged Kenyans to also stop movement to Tanzania warning that they are exposed to high risks of Covid-19 since Tanzania has not put safety measures to fight the virus.
Small-scale trade between the neighbouring countries have been going on in the wake of Covid-19 and free movement of people to and from Kajiado.
On the other foreigners are said to have been using the illegal routes to enter the country.

I don't need to ask I can read maps! Aside that ur media knows better than individuals in here! I indicated options remaining! Yes Kisumu can be accessed from Naivasha but beyond that the risk is big!

Nope. Kisumu to Busia has no risk. There are two corridors. One corridor is prone to flooding the one is not. Sigiri brigde iko huo upande wa Budalangi ambapo kuna floods. Kuna corridor ya Kisumu ambayo haina na haijawahi kuwa na floods. Upande wa Kisumu hata sidhani kama ina bridge nyingi. Huwa naenda Busia kupitia Kisumu na hii area haina bridge nyingi. Upande wa Kisumu ni dry, hakuna mvua sana kama upande huo mwingine.
Kwa hiyo hiyo TV iliyoruhusu hiyo habari kurushwa hewani pia ni wapuuzi?, kwa hiyo mnataka tuamini vyombo vipi vya habari vya Kenya?.

JPM shouldn't allow trucks from Mombasa on the way to Uganda and Rwanda to enter Tanzania territory. Now as Webuye bridge is next on death bed narrow minded Kunyans will do! Starting with governor Ole Lenku!

A nice comprehensive reporting. Probably now motor vehicles heading towards Burundi, DR Congo, Uganda and Rwanda have to use a deviation route through Taveta, Holili into Tanzania.
