guys i dont have a router but i have a comp can i connect my strong 4922 using the comp?am currently receiving 7w with a 90 cm dish can i receive also 8w on the same dish same lnb? And lastly after a blind scan on 36e i get setanta africa but says no video/audio ie no viewable chanels here please help

Good morning. Thanks for that advice, will update the firmware. Another couple of questions about the SRT 4922 not explained in the user manual.

Sat Finder, Frequency Spectrum analyser. If you select Antenna Setup, 'DiSEqC Motor', and then press yellow button, you get an impressive looking sceen showing a frequency spectrum and signal strengths. But I can find no explanation of what the colours of the bars mean, or how to use this thing. It seems that on the strongest signal, all of the bars should be as short as possible, which seems counter-intuitive. Pressing another function button whilst on this screen gets the system checking each transponder in turn, and returns staus 'locked' or 'unlocked' , which would also seem useful.


A second mysterious feature on the SRT 4922! Go to Menu, External Device/ File Manager. On the File Manager screen, press the 'info' button, now labelled 'upload file'. A drop down screen appears with two options, 'Upload CH list' and 'Upload STB'. Presumably the first option stores the current Channel list somewhere - that might be useful. I pressed it, and something is indeed uploaded, it says 'successfully completed', and a file with the extension .CNDF appears on the File list. But the question is, what to do with that file?

You will need to update the firmware as the current firmware on your receiver might have a bug when it comes to playing youtube.

I tested 3 lnbs yesterday on Badr 5/6 (fringe satellite in kenya) using a 2.4 meter offset dish.
Currently am experiencing Satellite Outage on Badr 5/6

The lnb's in play include, Inverto black ultra, Eurostar ESKD-QP4 and Samson s2 twin lnb.

Results as per performance.

A very nice bit of science, Kungu1. I wonder if any of the guys who run the Sat supply shops on Luthuli Avenue/River Road can read your review, and think about stocking the Inverto Black Ultra, or whether there is any member in a position to communicate with them?

I did my own little investigation a few days ago, not as thorough as yours, but I compared signal strength and quality with an Inverto Black Premium (not the ultra) single and an Inverto Black Premium twin outlet. I had read elsewhere that the dual or twin output LNBs perform better than the single's, but I wanted to check myself. Sure enough, I got a signal quality increase of 2 or 3% on Dubai One, Nilesat, which makes all the difference.

I see you only tested the Inverto Black Ultra single, which is probably all you had to hand at the time, we might speculated that the Ultra twin might perform even better.

Thats a pretty cool test there Bwana Kungu, i like.
i had wanted to compare the black ultra single with the samson on 7 west this week so i got me a black ultra.
No sooner had i touched my dish than my CNN tp jumped from 59% quality to 76%..i got out of there at the speed of greased lightning abandoning that experiment for a later date.

Hi members I am now confused about LNB issues why are some LNBs termed as Offset and others Prime focus.Does it mean if I use an Offset LNB on a prime focus dish the performance will not be good enough.Suggest the best Ku LNB to use on a prime focus dish since I never use the offset dishes.

Sat Finder, Frequency Spectrum analyser, like oscilloscopes are a basic tool used for observing signals.
However, where oscilloscopes look at signals in the time domain, spectrum analyzers look at signals in the frequency domain.
Thus a Sat Finder, Frequency Spectrum analyser will display the amplitude of signals on the vertical scale, and the frequency of the signals on the horizontal scale.

The purpose of the spectrum analyzer is to provide a plot or trace of signal amplitude against frequency on different satellite.

The spectrum finder has 5 main buttons>>

Red 22k On/off >>> select this to change the frequency range either between the lower band and upper band depending on satellite (KU or C band)
Ku Band lower band 10720 to 11550 and upper band 11550 to 12750
C band 4200 to 3400

Green H/V >>>>> to select polarity between horizontal and vertical.

Yellow lock >>>> used to check if you are locked on any frequency.
The Green bars denote frequencies.

If the green bar turns blue you are not locked on the frequency.
If the green bar turns green dark green, you are locked on a particular frequency.

Zoom >>>> to zoom in or out of the Spectrum analyzer display.

INFO Search >>>> As Spectrum analysers are similar to power meters in that they clearly show when you pass a satellite but they do not tell you the satellite identity unless you can recognize some of the carriers.
With INFO SEARCH the sat receivers identify which sat you are locked on depending on sat frequency data stored in the receiver.

All frequencies of both Eutelsat west 7 A and Nilesat 201 coming through.

The is specific KU Inverto Black Ultra meant for prime focus satellite dishes which would give better results.

Thanks Kungu. My Orange mobile broadband USB 3G modem is HUAWEI Mobile Broadband Model: E1752. I have
access to 2 other modems from my workplace. The oldest and slowest is HUAWEI model: E160E and a new ZTE
MF192.
I have noticed that the latest firmware for DIR 412 router is version 1.15 which has HUAWEI E1752 on its
compatibility list.
I am certain that my router failed to work because I did not set it up properly. Even on my PC, the INTERNET LED
does not turn green. Kindly show me step by step on how you set up your router with your Safaricom 3G modem
first on the PC and then later on the receiver (SRT 4922). I will appreciate your kind assistance.

PS: I failed to register as YAKO which I use on another forum. I was told that name is already taken, so I ended up
registering as YAKO2.

Good Afternoon Kibukila,

The focal length of prime focus and offset dishes are radically different, meaning that the beam angle (f/d) of prime and offset LNBs are different .

The f/d of an offset lnb is typically 0.6 while that of a prime focus lnb is typically 0.3.



If the focal length of the prime focus dish installation is larger than that of say an 80cm reference offset dish; then the performance of the prime focus dish with an offset lnb is theoretically better.
Note: There are some additional losses to take into account when using a prime focus dish with an offset lnb, as the lnb's 'shade' a percentage of the reflective surface; so an effective diameter, some 25% larger may be required to match the reference dishes performance.

All lnbfs have scalar rings - f stands for feedhorn and they reduce ground noise from behind the dish.

On a ku prime focus lnbf the rings are concentric and on the same plane like that of C band lnbf.

On an offset lnbf the rings are conical, they are hidden behind the cap on the "knob on the end" and not many people realize they are conical.

The mechanics of a ku band lnbf and a C band lnbf are different because a ku band lnbf is usually 1 piece while the sliding up and down adjustment on a C band lnbf is to allow for dishes of different depth, i.e shallow or deep dishes. It's called the F factor (which does not stand for focal)


In the case of a prime focus dish, you need to have a ku lnb with the scalar rings concentric and on the same plane.

Some of the of ku lnb meant for prime focus dish include,>>>>

Other type, FLANGE LNB

This Lnb is the type that fits that fits onto a prime focus dish using screws and doesnt have a neck brace.
For the Flange lnb to be complete, you need to add on adjustable feed horn.

Types of Flange lnb include, Inverto, invacom etc.

All the above flange lnb require the adjustment feedhorn which works like the c band lnb conical panel sliding up and down adjustment.

today i finally nabbed yahyasat using a 1.8 prime focus and a discovery lnb it was raining so i had to abort the job next assignment is the elusive parksat and also some things arent clear why is it i get yahyasat clear which footprint is far from me yet i cant properly lock on 60e and 62e respectively someone explain

Thanks Permie, and thanks for Kungu1's advice and that of ColonelSahin as well. Energised by this information, I got adjusting my dish again, - you are absolutely right Permie, precision is the issue with a heavy 120cm dish, loosening the mount to adjust the azimuth slightly also changes (lowers) the elevation, because of the way the dish is bolted to the mount and the pole. Anyway, I did manage to boost my signal by a few percentage points and that indeed makes a difference, and I can now pull BBC W and Euronews and more.

I am wondering, are any of you who are getting Nilesat using the SRT 4922? If so , could you let me know what your signal quality is for - say Al Jazeera English and for BBC World News, so I can know if I my dish is close to being correct, or if I have a long way to go. After latest adjustments I get Al Jazeera English = Strength (L) 83% and Quality Q = 67%, and for BBC World Strength is 75% but Quality only 53%.

On my 120cm and 4922 in Nairobi Aljazeera English L=97% and Q=76% and for BBC L=97% and Q=71%

Thanks Kungu1 for the LNB clarification,I have managed to lock on one tp 11170V26652 Intelsat 20 SA Beam using 2.4m prime focus dish and Stargold Universal Twin LNB I could nor get the SABC tp and this was my first fringe satellite reception at my location North Western Tanzania.I am planning to track Yahsat West beam but with little hope due to my location.
