I’ll help you make it resonating ,1. Corruption - many officials take bribes and approve buildings by developers who are not willing to follow the code of construction. As an engineer, I have turned down a job from a developer because he wanted to do things his way and bribe his way. He only needed my stamp and certificate but not my expertise.
2. There is an extremely high number of highrises complete and under construction in Nairobi. As somebody who has travelled to all major cities of East Africa, I can confidently tell you Nairobi has more highrises over 10 floors and over 20 floors than the other cities (minus Addis Ababa) combined. While the number of collapsing buildings is quite high, it is no different from Dar or Kampala of count them in terms of number of buildings collapsing say per 100 highrises.
Corruption, your government is just a failed government. With no working institutions. Kwani mamlaka ikitoa building permit there are no follow-ups ?
Having a look at those buildings adjacent to the collapsed one, they are far below the minimum standards, and you’d wonder how the government will allow such malpractice that endangers the lives of its own people.
By just looking you’ll agree with me that majority of buildings in Nairobi are far below the minimum thresholds .
If a building collapses in Tanzania utaona namna the government will take the matter seriously. But for you guys sio tu nairobi , every township of yours buildings often collapse.
