Hi guys.
My friend Khan recommended me The Enchiridion by Epictetus, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and Letters from a Stoic by Seneca.

I have read the Letter of Stoic before. So I got copies of two books (Enchiridion and Medications) from the library and started with The Enchiridion. My plan was to read three chapters per day.

It's a great concise book and a fairly short read. I will share with you the lesson I learned from first three chapters.

Chapter 1 , tells us about there are things that are in our control/power and other thing not. "Those things within our power are opinion, aim, desire, eversion and in one word, whatever affairs are our own. Beyond our power are body, property, reputation, office and in one word whatever are not properly our own affairs." So anything which are by nature free, unrestricted we can count them as "things within our power" and vice versa is true.

Chapter 2, reminds us to shun only those things we have the power to avoid and desire only those things we have the power to acquire. Remember ,Desire demands the attainment of that of which you desirous and eversion demand the avoidance of that to which you are averse.

Chapter 3. Recognise all things you possess and be mentally prepared to lose them. " if you embrace your child or your wife, that you embrace a mortal and thus, if either of them dies, you can bear it". You can only bear it only if you prepared to lose them.

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Umemenunua wapi hard copy au uliagiza?
Hiki kilikuwa out of print. Wadogo zangu walikuwa wanakuja kunitembelea kutoka Tanzania nikawaagiza. Wakapiga simu wakaambiwa kuna batch mpya inakuwa printed, wakaweka order ndiyo wakapata hiki, wakaniletea.
