A poignant and inspirational love story set in Burma, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats spans the decades between the 1950s and the present. When a successful New York lawyer suddenly disappears without a trace, neither his wife nor his daughter Julia has any idea where he might be…until they find a love letter he wrote many years ago, to a Burmese woman they have never heard of. Intent on solving the mystery and coming to terms with her father’s past, Julia decides to travel to the village where the woman lived. There she uncovers a tale of unimaginable hardship, resilience, and passion that will reaffirm the reader’s belief in the power of love to move mountains.

Thanks Paula.

Sound very exciting.

I am very tied up at the moment but I will do my best to read this.

Miss you as always.

Cheers.

No problem.
I hope you'll like it Nowonmai.
Oh! It's been a while, hasn't it? I miss you deeply too.
Cheers!!

Yes, it’s been a while.

And coincidentially I ‘ve been reading a couple of books set in Asia too.

Amitav Gosh’s A River of Poppies and its sequel, A Sea of Poppies.

It was interesting to learn from these historical novels that the mainstay of the British Empire’s leading trading entity, British East India Company, was narcotic drugs trade. And that there was such thing as “The Heroin Wars”, a battle to open up mainland China for the heroin market.

Well Paula, I ‘m glad that you are here, interacting with the JF “bookworms”.

PS. I am having a problem downloading The Art of Hearing Heartbeats but I will keep on trying. Please don’t remove it yet.

"A sea of Poppies", aw, the title sounds fantastic. I've never heard about "A river of Poppies " but it sounds worth reading.

You see, I am a sucker for historical Novels. I am going to check those out soon.
Nowonmai, thank you. It means a lot coming from you, I appreciate it, really.
