Growing up means understanding that your time and energy are precious commodities.

Don't waste them on people or conversations that don't light your fire.

Life's too short to fake it. Embrace your authentic self and let the rest fall away.
 
Maturity is realising that you no longer have the energy for meaningless friendships, forced interactions or unnecessary conversations.
 
From a different perspective...

Maturity is responsibility.

You have the responsibility to delegate your energy in the most effective ways.

Many "mature" adults live their lives in that very cycle.

Don't waste your energy like a child.

That is maturity.
 
Indeed, it always takes time and life experience to realize the importance of meaningful relationships and the value of our time. As we grow and mature, we start to recognize the difference between fulfilling conversations and those that are superficial and unnecessary.
