When did all economist meet and complain about it. Don't conflate some western economist fearful of China rise with all economist. The same western gov including US of A are choking with Chinese loans themselves.Africa has developed the last 15yrs thanks to Chinese. China are giving Africa lots of low or zero interest loan if not grants. China is trying to avoid the middle class trap and is awash with cash it doesn't want going into their economy - so there is huge opportunity to grab the chinese money and invest it.
Mombasa port collateral propaganda has no legs. What KPA committed was to give 40% of cargo to SGR. That is a small price to pay for someone who is willing to fund your rail with 10B dollars.
Why Tanzania chose to go for a commercial bank loan is not comprehensible to me. It probably because China were never going to finance another white elephant - after TAZARA. The rail to Morogoro to Mwanza doesn't make economic sense...will not meet it's operational cost. There is simply no cargo to transport unless TZ was to get Uganda to commit to transport all it cargo through it.

Evidence?TZ's AREMA is equivalent to Chinese Class B(II) which is cheaper to build but more expensive maintain.Railways are very expensive to build, maintain and run. That is why the European built rails around Africa are all now decrepit. African gov couldn't afford to maintain them. They went into state of desrepair.
