Cost comparison SGR Kenya vs SGR Tanzania

Expressway inajengwa na private investor kwa pesa zake mwenyewe. Sasa sijui ulikuwa unataka huyo investor atujengee expressway bure bila kurudisha investment yake? Unadhani huyo investor amekuja kufanya charity work au biashara?
Nyie mtuwache kabisa. Nyie hata huwa hamna big dollar investments in infrastructure from private investors. Huko kwenu big private investors wanainvest kwenye mining pekee.
Sisi Lake Turkana wind plant (the biggest in Africa) ilicost ksh 70 billion. Hii expressway pia inacost ksh 70 billion na miradi zote mbili ni private investments za infrastructure. Hatupo ligi moja.
Turkana windproject investor is eating on capacity charges while no single MW is connected to ur transmition grid! As u speak power rationing is all over Kenya! There is a reason why many of their r designed to rip off Kenya.

EACOP is the single largest project financed by a private multinational company in the region n they chose Dar over Nairobi! Uache kuwa shallow on that. BTW I indicated how much the cost for ur express highway is double inflated. Ufalamanga as usual!

Leta evidence kuwa expressway ni double inflated.

Lake Turkana wind power iliconnectiwa to the national grid in 2018. Wewe ndio utawacha ufalamanga. Hata huna aibu kusema eti lake Turkana bado haijakuwa connected to the grid.

Soma hapa. Commission date ni October 2018.

Ukiprove kwamba Lake Turkana wind power bado haijakuwa connected to the grid basi nahama JF

Wewe hata huwezi kusoma hio article uliyopost?

PoSted around 3 reports n u chose one positive to the project sio?

None of those reports say that LTWP is not connected to the grid. Bado hujaweka hio proof! Anyway wacha yaishe maana hatuelewani.

The project is very costly n not serving the purpose to offer cheaper clean energy!

Tanzania-Angola Rail Link in the Offing

ANGOLA, a former Portuguese colony which won independence in 1975, intends to establish a railway from its city of Lobito to Dar es Salaam to link the two major ports for reducing time and cost of transporting goods and services.

Currently, the largest part of goods transportation takes place by land, where certain patches present difficulties to the users due to the bad state of roads, especially during the rainy season.

"Linking the two cities, the railway will create numerous direct and indirect job opportunities on both sides," Angola's Ambassador to Tanzania, Sandro De Oliveira, said in a speech on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam.

He was addressing Tanzanian businesspeople and investors during an event to mark his country's 45th Independence Anniversary,

The envoy used the opportunity to explain about trade and investment opportunities available in Angola that Tanzanian investors and traders could take advantage of.

He said the referred railway corridor will connect the important ports of Lobito and of Dar es Salaam, allowing the transit of goods from and to markets in America, Asia and Europe that utilise the Atlantic and Indian Oceans respectively.

The envisaged railway from Angola would pass through Zambia to Tanzania.

Ambassador Oliveira said in order to have the railway link with Tanzania the Angolan government would construct a new railway into Zambia that would further link to the 1,860 km Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA).

The works would be to standardise its railway that would come from Lobito to Kapiri Mposhi, Zambia, by building a railway with same standard with that in Zambia and Tanzania.

"The Republic of Angola is ready to carry out at least two experimental trips as soon as the logistical and institutional conditions are created, for which, we count on Tanzania's collaboration in this effort," said Ambassador Oliveira.

He also revealed that his government is working towards the creation of a Tanzania-Angola Business Forum, whose first edition would take place in Dar es Salaam in May next year.

Elaborating, the Counselor of Business Affairs at the Embassy, Mr Ngueza Mauricio, said trade between the two countries was important because it would open new markets and investment areas for business classes and was ideal for good prospects for corporate income and profits.

Business between South Sudan and other east African countries downstream is expected to become much easier when Uganda completes construction of a modern logistics hub just closer to the border with its northern neighbour.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Gulu district in Northern Uganda to grace the ground-breaking of the €7.76 million Gulu Logistics Hub and the €47.6 million Tororo Gulu Railway rehabilitation.

According to the design, Gulu Logistics Hub will consist of Custom Offices, Container Cleaning & repair, Gate Complex, Railway Siding, Vehicle Holding Area and Traffic Flows, Perimeter Walls, Access Road, Weigh in Motion Bridge, Container Freight Station(CFS), Administration Complex and others.

The European Commission in Uganda said, “We are funding the projects with the government of Uganda, the United Kingdom through Trade Mark East Africa to reinstate the railway and improve logistics efficiency.”

During the four-year military campaign led by Museveni who deposed President Militon Obote, the locomotive railway line was destroyed and looted causing a devastating injury to Uganda’s economy which resulted in high transportation costs for both goods and services. Museveni’s government has only been focused on road transport that is extremely costly for business.

The Gulu Logistics Hub will serve the trade corridors of Kampala, Gulu, Elegu/Nimule, Juba Trade Corridor and Gulu – Packwach Goli,Padea,Lia,Vura DRC Trade Corridor. It is expected to significantly reduce barriers to trade for northern Uganda and her neighbors particularly South Sudan, eastern DR Congo and parts of north western Kenya.

Damali Ssali , the Country Director representing Trade Mark East Africa in Uganda said earlier that the significance of this facility is trade development; working as a goods and cargo store for Northern Uganda, West Nile, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.

The site was handed over to the contractor on 21st February 2020 and construction commenced in May 2020. The first phase focuses on establishment of a large portion of the hard infrastructure required and is envisaged to be completed by mid-2021.

MY TAKE
Seems Uganda has no interest in Kenya's SGR as they r busy to revamp their rickety MGR to Gulu!
Uganda revamping a railway to S.Sudan has nothing to do with their railway project with Kenya.... in fact, on the contrary, Kumbuka hizo products ambazo Uganda ita export to S.Sudan zina need raw materials ambazo Uganda hua ina import from outside, and the main import route for Uganda is non other than through Kenya! So Uganda will need to import a large chunck of raw materials, goods and products, by-products through Kenya first before they manufacture, add value etc and then export,re-export the same product to S.Sudan..

Also, don't forget that Kenya is in Competition with Uganda when it comes to trading with S.Sudan, kwahivyo mbali na Kenya ku export products zake za S.Sudan kupitia Uganda, barabara ya LAPSSET kutoka Kenya hadi S.Sudan ilioanza kujengwa 2017 inaendelea kujengwa

barabara hio ni approx 900km

The section from Lodwar going towards S.Sudan is currently under different stages of construction.

When this road is complete, S.Sudan imports from outside EAC won't have to go through Uganda anymore, they will go directly from Mombasa or Lamu straight to Juba. So do not think for a second that Kenya has no options, we never back away from the competition, infact, we welcome it! Healthy competition brings progress much faster
