In other news AVG containers zinazo pita kwa SGR Kenya zimefika 900 TEUs per day. Inatarajiwa mwaka huu ndo tutafikisha 1,200 TEUs per day badala ya 2022 ambayo wachina walikua wamepredict tutafikisha hio 1,200 TEUs ambayo ni Sawa na 8.5 million tonnes p.a.

The linking of the Nairobi inland port to the Standard Gauge Railway has decongested Mombasa port (pictured) by moving almost ten times the number of containers on daily basis.
This dramatic shift, however, has come at a price to Nairobi. It is now the home to congestion that has choked businesses as a result of clearance delays following the realignment of the cargo operations.
Cargo dispatched to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Nairobi's Embakasi area has to undergo further clearance which is working against reduced dispatch time to transit destinations.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) indicated there were 10,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) containers at ICD in Nairobi, forcing it to hire five periphery storage facilities to handle the extra cargo.
According to Northern Corridor Transit Transport Coordination Authority, 905 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) left the port of Mombasa in September compared to 108 in January 2018.
“The volume of cargo handled at the Nairobi inland container terminal has increased to 26,391 TEUs in September 2018. This is a major step towards decongestion of the port’s container terminals,” the monitoring team said.
Cargo hauled by railway had a shorter dwell time of 2.6 days at the port in September compared to 5.7 days for cargo evacuated by road.
Gross movement per hour has doubled for Mombasa port that serves more than 30 shipping lines which connect to over 80 seaports worldwide.

While Mombasa is becoming efficient, Nairobi is choking with congestion that attracts additional storage and detention charges according to Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association.
KPA has hiked storage charges for cargo staying at ICD for over four days. For instance, cargo that is uncollected for six days attracts a charge of Sh4,000 for a 20-foot container and Sh8,000 for a 40-foot container.
In Mombasa, ship turnaround time has also improved from 102 hours in 2015 to 70 hours in 2018 in the quarter under review against the set target of 72 hours.
This has been attributed to the construction of berth 19, second container terminal and an offshore single buoy mooring. The ship's waiting time recorded a low of 12.9 hours in July and September and high of 17.1 hours in August 2018.
These improvements come even as the State imposed a 20 per cent demurrage charges on foreign ships to keep the port competitive. However, some of the indicators that did not meet the set target include; time taken for document processing centre and one stop clearance time.

There was an increase in time taken to process documents from 1.8 hours to 2.3 hours and further increase to 3.1 hours in July, August and September 2018 respectively.

Treni hii pia imetengenezwa nchini China na inajulikana kwa jina la “Fuxing Hao” kwa kiingereza inamaanisha “Rejuvenation” (in swahili ni Ufufuo).

Kwenye uzao huu walitoa treni mbili ambazo ni CR400AF na CR400BF na walizipa majina ambayo ni “Dolphin Blue” kwa CR400AF na “ Golden phoenix” kwa CR400BF.

Treni hizo zinauwezo wa kusafirisha abiria 556 kutoka Beijing south kuelekea Shanghai Hangqiao ambao ni umbali wa 1,318km kwa masaa 4.

3. Shinkansen H5 na E5 ( 358.4km/hr)

Hichi ni kizazi kipya cha treni nchini Japan ambacho kilizinduliwa siku ya sherehe ya miaka 54 ya japan kwenye utumiaji wa usafiri wa treni zenye spidi kubwa ( High speed train travel).

Treni hii ufanya safari kutoka Tokyo na kwenda Osaka umbali wa kilometa 397 kwa saa (1hr).

4. Italo na Frecciarossa (352km/hr).

Hichi ndo kizazi cha treni chenye kasi zaidi kwa bara la ulaya ambacho kina uwezo wa kutoa abiria kutoka Milan kwenda Florence au Mji wa Rome kwa masaa 3.

Frecciarosa ujulikana kwa jina maarufu la “Red Arrow” ilizinduliwa mwaka 2015 mjini Milan nchini Italia.

5. Renfe Ave (347.2km/hr)

Hii ndo treni yenye mwendokasi zaidi nchini Hispania iliotengenezwa na kampuni ya Siemens.

Treni hii utoa huduma ya safari ndefu na ufanya safari zake kutoka mji wa Barcelona kwenda Paris nchini ufaransa kwa masaa 6.

6. Haramain western Railway (347.1km/hr)

Hii ni treni inayounganisha majiji matakatifu nchini Saudi Arabia.

Treni hii usafiri kutoka Mecca kwenda Medina umbali wa kilometa 449.6 kwa masaa 2 na 1/2 (2hrs 30minutes).

7. DeutscheBahn ICE (328km/hr)

Hii ni treni yenye mwendokasi zaidi nchini ujerumani. Treni hii ilitengenezwa na kampuni ya Siemens kama ilivyokuwa ile ya Hispania “Renfe AVE”.

Treni hii inaunganisha jiji la Berlin na Munich. Pia treni hii hupita kwenye handaki (channel tunnel) na kufanya safari zake kutoka Frankfurt kuelekea London.

8. Korail KTX (328 km/hr)

Hii ni train yenye mwendokasi zaidi nchini korea ya kusini. KTX ilizinduliwa mwaka 2004.

Treni hii inaunganisha uwanja wa ndege wa kimataifa wa Incheon na Gangneung hadi kufikia Seoul.

9. Eurostar e320 na TGV (320 km/hr)

Hizi ni treni ambazo waliziboresha (upgraded) na kuweza kufikia speed ya 320km/hr.

Eurostar utumia masaa 2 kusafiri kati ya Brussels, Paris na London.

10. Thalys (297.6km/hr)

Hii ni treni ya mwendokasi inayounganisha Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris na Cologne.

Hii ni treni ya muhimu zaidi kwa bara la ulaya kwani inapitia majiji mengi na Mwaka 2015 iliongeza route ya Dortmund kupitia Brussels kwenda Paris.
