Tanzania – Update
The Prime Minister Hon. Kassim Majali has commended the Tanzania Railway Corporation –(TRC) for restoring the Tanga-Moshi route, which has been inactive for 12 years. The Prime Minister has said that this achievement is the implementation of national policy and the country's strategy to lift the various strategic sectors .
The prime minister added that the effort and dedication made to restore the railway from Dar es Salaam to Tanga and then towards Moshi, Kilimanjaro is a timely decision and one that inspires the strategic mission to stimulate economic growth and transform the lives of people through quality public services.
The Prime Minister also noted that Tanzania borders on more than five countries that rely heavily on Tanzanian transportation and logistics infrastructure to import goods. He also hinted at a major SGR historical project going on from Dar es Salaam to Makutupora and said that the five-phase Government has invested about 7.2 billion shillings of taxpayer money to implement the project.
Tunnel Construction
Tanzania, Morogoro - Makutupora Railway Project tunnel excavation production started on 22 July 2019 with a ceremony at the entrance of the longest tunnel, T2 tunnel (L = 1.031m).
Within the scope of the project, there are 4 tunnels with a total length of 2,620m. Their lengths are T1 - 424m, T2 - 1.031m, T3 - 318m and T4 - 847m respectively. T2 tunnel excavation is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
