Sasa piga hesabu USD 60m utapata ngapi? Mzigo mwingine utaongezwa gradually vipande vingine vya reli vikikamilika
The $60 was to buy both the passengers train and cargo trains. And if I'm honest with you, your govt won't manage even to buy three of passengers itx train and the cargo train.

THE Southern African Development Community (Sadc) says notable progress has been achieved towards implementation of priority energy interconnector projects in the region.

The projects seek to connect Angola, Malawi and Tanzania to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) grid. The Zambia-Tanzania interconnector is divided into several components and is at construction phase from both sides where the two transmission lines are designed to converge near Nakonde Border by 2022.

The Angola-Namibia Interconnector is at feasibility study stage and is also expected to be commissioned by 2022 following expression of commitment by the two member states by signing the inter-governmental memorandum of understanding (IGMOU).

According to the progress report by the Sadc secretariate to the 40th Sadc Summit, the Mozambique-Malawi interconnector attained financial closure and is at construction stage. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2022.

Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are also considering developing an interconnector project, which is still at pre-feasibility stage.

The Sadc secretariat is advocating for the development of the western transmission corridor along Angola, Botswana, Namibia and central transmission corridor along Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Plans are also underway to develop eastern corridors along South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi and Tanzania of the SAPP network in order to relieve congestion from the existing central corridor.

Moreover, in order to unlock and leverage development of the power transmission interconnector projects, backbone transmission lines as well as those linked to the new power plants, the Sadc secretariat in collaboration with SAPP and through support from the World Bank, is developing a study on establishment of a Regional Transmission Infrastructure Financing Facility (RTIFF).

Recommendations of the study are set to be presented to relevant sectoral ministerial committees for clearance and ultimately to Council of Ministers for consideration and approval.

The regional bloc also said the operationalisation of the Sadc Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) was ongoing with the secretariat having secured signing of inter-governmental memorandum of agreement by 10 member states namely Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

MY TAKE
Uachage ufalamanga! GoT haikurupuki kuna miradi mingi inafanyika tena under SADC! Ati tujenge mradi wa $3 bln halafu tushindwe ku-organize transmission grid! Una wazimu wewe!

Uko so demoralized to an extent unatu-bewitch! Now unatuambia miradi inachelewa! Yenyu intergrid connection Ethiopia-Kenya kila siku mnaimba imeisha ila on the ground vitu viko tofauti!

BTW juzi tu ulikuwa unabisha kwamba hamna ujenzi unaendelea Tanzania on EAPP!

Sikiliza watu wako wakiongea. Nina uhakika ho umeme wenu wa geothermal wa bei ghali hautaona nyeupe!

Kenya-Ethiopia inter-connector power project imekamilika. Sasa line hio inakuwa energized. Hii ndio the first 500 KV DC line in Africa

Nyinyi hamna mradi kama huu. Wacha uongo. Hii ndio the first DC current powerline in Africa. Pia Africa nzima haina powerline yenye 500 KV (kilovolts) ratings. Hii ndio the first 500 KV powerline in Africa. Nyinyi huwa mpo nyuma siku zote. Halafu huwa mnapenda kutufuata. Hivi karibuni utasikia eti hata nyinyi mnataka kuanzisha ujenzi wa DC powerline.

Kwani what does it take ku-upgrade a 400kV to 500 kV? Hii sio sector yako punguza upumbavu! If u will take a little understanding of power formulars u will know how can the voltage be manipulated into increasing the capacity of a transmission line!

GOVT UPBEAT ON JNHP FUNDING

SUNDAY NEWS Reporter

10/04/2021

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Saturday assured Tanzanians that the government will continue to provide funds for the construction of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHP) so that it could be completed on time.

The Premier said the government will do everything in its capacity to ensure the project is completed as scheduled and as per agreed international standards.

He was speaking after a working tour at the site, where he inspected progress of the multibillion project.

The project is scheduled to be completed in June, 2022. According to Mr Majaliwa, everything is set to ensure smooth continuous funding of the project.

“I would like to ensure the public that the government is committed and focused to continue funding this strategic project, which is designed to bring both social and economic changes to all Tanzanians,” said the Premier.

Mr Majaliwa said the project is expected to generate 2115MW and lower costs among wananchi.

“Currently Tanzania generates 1,500MW from other sources, with the additional 2115Mw from JNHP, the country will be able to export excess electricity to neighbouring countries,” he said.

He expressed his satisfaction with the progress in the implementation of the project, saying taxpayers’ money is being used properly.

“I am satisfied with the good job under Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric companies, all from Egypt. The good performance has so far been recorded under good supervision of Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and the Ministry of Energy,” noted Mr Majaliwa.

He said the government invested in the project knowing clearly that hydropower projects are cheaper compared to other sources of electricity.

The Premier said generating one unit from hydropower project costs between 36/- and 50/-, while electricity that is generated from other sources such as oil costs between 440/- and 600/- per unit.

“We therefore focused on hydropower because it is cheaper compared to other sources, and this will enable the government to reduce cost of electricity which is supplied to Tanzanians,” he noted.

Moreover, Mr Majaliwa said the project has also helped to generate employment to Tanzanians who are involved in the construction.

He said some Tanzanians supply construction materials, fuel, food and other services that are required at the site. The Premier revealed that TANESCO has already announced the tender for construction of a main power transmission line from JNHP to Chalinze in Coast region.

He said from Chalinze, other two lines will be constructed towards Dodoma and Dar es Salaam to enable supply of power to all regions in the country. Mr Majaliwa has also ordered the Ministry of Energy to identify all challenges that may lead to any delay of the completion of the project and make sure they are resolved.

"I am also asking wananchi who live along the project area to cooperate with contractors and all workers in this project by assuring them security and protection for their properties, including the machines,” he said.

Earlier, Deputy Minister for Energy, Mr Stephen Byabato said the government has so far provided over 2tri/- for the implementation of the project. Upon completion, the project is expected to cost 6.5tri/.

Hata mkifaulu kuconvert 400 kv into 500 kv hio bado itabaki kuwa 500 kv AC line. Nimesema kwamba mradi wa Kenya-Ethiopia interconnector project is the first DC powerline in Africa. Hebu tupatie pongezi na hongera zetu.

Engineer mwenye hajui advantages nyingi za DC powerline compared to AC powerline?

It depends on what u want to achieve! Get the basics first! From ur DC interconnector grid with Ethiopia u will not be able to sell power to Ethiopia whereas for us we can buy and sell to our neighbors! Whether DC or AC i believe none of the countries will buy power from Kenya as it is way expensive than what Ethiopia and Tanzania will offer in through these interconnector powergrids i.e. EAPP and SAPP.

BTW it is possible to covert AC to DC!
