The Chinese built these roads and bypasses not so long ago and the economical transformation in various regions is massive. The loans have been repayed (not certain). Same will happen with the SGR.

So all our kenya bound cargo will be back on the roads hauled by trucks as SGR chases the more lucrative transit cargo.
What if this money being used to subsidize Ugandan and congolese Mitumba importers was used to produce maize and revive the sugar sector?

Check your stats. Port of MOMBASA handles around 26 million not 8m. And, that 26 millions is increasing exponentially. Around 2030 that port will handle more than 40 million. What's that you were saying about viability and economic sense again??

Transit cargo covers a greater distance and is more profitable.This transit cargo is owned by congolese and ugandan businessmen for which we are subsidizing with borrowed money,previously they were paying the bill and never asked for any subsidy even from their own governments . The max capacity of SGR is 8m tons per year which is equvalent to all the cargo from mombasa bound for outside kenya. For SGR to recoup its investment, it must concentrate on the profitable transit cargo.So the question is- Who then will carry the less profitable kenya bound cargo? will it not be back on the roads destroying the roads? negating the very essence of building SGR?
