Ethiopia overtakes Kenya as economic giant of East Africa

Ethiopia
Ethiopia has officially overtaken neighbouring Kenya as East Africa’s economic giant.

According to International Monetary Fund (IMF) figures, Ethiopia’s annual economic output (i.e. Gross Domestic Product (GDP)) for this year was expected to hit $78 billion from $72 billion recorded last year.
Their economic growth since 2015 has been pegged at 10.8% which has helped put a significant gap between them and Kenya. In monetary terms, Ethiopia has opened a gap of about $29 million over Kenya.

Ethiopia’s economic growth is hinged on public-led spending on infrastructure and a strong demand by locals. It has also recently become an destination of choice for particularly Chinese investors.

Non-resource-intensive countries, such as Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Senegal, generally continued to grow robustly, benefiting from strong domestic demand and high levels of public spending, though in some cases, growth eased from 2015,’‘ an IMF report released in April 2017 read.

Ethiopia’s economy since 2015 has been on an upward trajectory since the government moved to modernise its roads, railway and power plants. They are on cue to have Africa’s biggest hydroelectric dam upon the completion of work on the Grand Ethiopia Renaissance Dam (GERD).

You will never see Jubilee bloggers discussing this, Selective amnesia. But they like discussing TZ because they hate JPM
Ethiopia is not Tanzania....plus Ethiopia has a population of 100 million....Kenya has 45 million....GDP per capita ulinganishe na urudi hapa

Mimi mambo ya uchumi yananishangaza!! Hawa wa Ethiopia kila siku wanakamatwa wamesondekwa kwenye ma container!! . Huu uchumi unamsaidiaje raia wa kawaida, kama hawa wa Ethiopia wanaojitolea maisha yao kwenda ughaibuni?!

Lakini kama uchumi ni mambo ya takwimu na watawala kwangu sioni logic.

Then talk about GDP per capita (ppp) Jubilee mediocrity is sickening
Always I do ask myself many questions without getting answers, Ethiopia GDP is bigger than that of Kenya, but majority of Ethiopians are living very bad lives than majority of Kenyans. Kenya has bigger GDP than Tanzania, but majority of Kenyans live very poorly than Tanzanians. Where these GDPs go, and why lives of these countries with bigger GDP are worse than those with small GDPs?

Good for Ethiopia. They have invested heavily in power production and manufacturing and now we are starting to see the fruits of those investments

This was always expected, in fact has taken way too long to happen, a country with more than 100 million people and growing at more than 8% not to mention its massive investment on infrastructure in their huge country, was definitely going to overtake us. Congrats to them, unlike our southern lazy neighbors whose population is larger than ours, huge fertile land and minerals everywhere but their citizens have filled our streets begging.

Halafu wako wapi wale waimba kwaya wa debt to GDP akina Mwanzi1 maana kufikia 2016 Ethiopia ilikua 56.9% na hawakuwapigia makelele kama wanavyotokangwa udenda ikija kwa Kenya.

You dont have to write long responses to prove your mediocrity, so many words zero intelligence. Waste of time, same shiit everyday. Hopeless

Binti Mwasiti ndo kwanza safari imeanza. Mara pap! Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda
Tanzania ingoje angalau miaka sijui kufikia Kenya kiuchumi, na angalau miaka 10 ikiwa uchumi wa Kenya itakosa kukua kabisa miaka hiyo yote.
