Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao confirmed for 2 May

Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao confirmed for 2 May

Why is Manny 'definitely going to lose'?

Mayweather hasn't gotten any younger.

By the time of the fight he'll be 38 years old.

In combat sports that's a senior citizen and last time I checked father time was undefeated!

Don't you think age will be a factor?

This fight won't be a gimme for Mayweather and chances of him losing are huge.

ha ha..not age. Of course if one talks of age they both are senior citizens...my problem is with Pacman's focus to the game..since 2011 I've seen his focus on the game just deteriorate..I mean what do you call a guy who is a political leader, a basketball player, a basketball coach, a boxer et al?...If he is to stand any chances he needs to use these two months most effectively to regain the punching speed we all knew him for..

A fight for ages. Expected to be a close fight.

But to me it is advantage Mayweather due to his better defensive skills.

Expect numerous boxing legends to attend.

Did you see Mayweather's last fight against Maidana?

If you think Manny has lost a step because of his extracurricular activities then the same applies to Mayweather.

Money May got a lot going on too.

He now promotes fights through his Mayweather Promotions company, hangs out with celebrities, he is friends with Justin Beiber, etc.

But I think that is all silly. I don't think doing those things during your downtime affects one's abilities in the ring.

Did you see Mayweather's last fight against Marcos Maidana?

He got hurt in that fight. I think it was at the tail-end of the third round. Maidana caught him nice and clean.

And the first fight was competitive enough to even force a rematch.

But we shall see come May 2nd because the fight will be fought in the squared circle and not on paper or online blogs.

I can't wait.

They were supposed to have fought when they were at their prime!

This time around they are all worn out as Nyani Ngabu said father time is undefeated!

So the fight won't be as good as it is promoted, there wont be value for money!

Mayweather, Pacquiao to meet just once before fight week

The fight is so big, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. won't be spending much time promoting it.

The two boxers will get together March 11 in Los Angeles for the only press conference before the week of the fight, organizers said Monday. They won't meet again until the final press conference at the MGM Grand in the days before the May 2 mega fight.

Both fighters have begun training for the bout, with Pacquiao arriving in Los Angeles over the weekend from the Philippines. He will train at the Wild Card gym in Hollywood, while Mayweather trains in his own gym in Las Vegas.

Fans hoping to get a glimpse of the fighters at the Los Angeles press conference figure to be out of luck. The event is open only to credentialed media. [Via:

50 Cent Betting $1.6 Mil On Floyd 'He Can't Lose'

How much does confidence cost? If you're 50 Cent, about $1.6 million ... 'cause that's how much the hip-hop star says he's going to bet on his old frenemy Floyd Mayweather Jr. to beat Manny Pacquiao.

50 and his G-Unit runnin' mate Tony Yayo sat down with "The Breakfast Club" this morning -- when Charlamagne Tha God asked Fiddy for his pick for the mega-fight in May.

"Champ 'gon smoke em ... it's gonna look like [the fight] was pumped up for no reason."

So why such a big bet? 50 says he spoke with Floyd at the Chris Brown concert last month -- the first time they've spoken in a while -- and says Mayweather is SUPER focused.

It's interesting ... considering 50 bashed the hell out of Mayweather on social media last year ... ripping on everything from his spending habits to his reading ability.

But $1.6 million buys a hell of a lot of olive branches. [Via: TMZ]

50 Cent says he's betting $1.6 million on Mayweather to 'smoke' Pacquiao

Rapper 50 Cent and boxer Floyd Mayweather have had their share of differences.

There were accusations of money owed and relationships estranged.Literacy test challenges issued. Fiddy even said Mayweather was dragging his feet to fight Manny Pacquiao because he was "scared to death."

But now that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight has been confirmed for May 2, 50 Cent is throwing his support behind his frenemy. And this is not just chump change. The rapper told Power 105.1's the Breakfast Club that he'll probably bet $1.6 million on Mayweather to take the fight.

"He's gonna smoke 'im. ... it's gonna look like it was pumped up for no reason," 50 Cent said. "He focused right now."

‘Mayweather has to fight' vs ‘perpetually-in-motion' Pacquiao, says Tyson

MANILA, Philippines-As the fight of the century draws so much anticipation, boxing legends have taken their turn in throwing their two cents in.

This time it's Mike Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.

Tyson said Mayweather's defensive counter-punching style would give him trouble against the loose-cannon Pacquiao.

"He has to fight. If he's not going to score, he is going to lose the round," Tyson said in his YouTube channel.

Tyson added that two fighters who gave Pacquiao trouble, Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, both "threw over a hundred punches a round" and "Floyd doesn't throw near a hundred punches per round."

"He is more of a scientific fighter. He plots a lot, sits around and he poses. And this guy (Pacquiao) is all over the place, moving in," the bad boy of boxing said.

Backing up his claims on Mayweather's style, Tyson said that Pacquiao could negate Money's style through his constant movement and use of the ring.

"This guy's (Pacquiao) in perpetual motion, he's all over the god-damn place," Tyson said.

Mayweather getting aggressive, KOs sparring partner with body shot

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has not scored a knockout since he was a spry 34-year-old kid.

But if at least one story out of "Money's" Las Vegas-based training camp is true, the 38-year-old version of the five-division champion could be looking to end the drought come May 2.

Photographer Chris Robinson told CBSSports.com Sunday that Mayweather has been stepping on the aggressive gas in the early days of training, which has yielded a KO of at least one unsuspecting spar mate.

"Floyd doing his thing," said Robinson, owner of the HustleBoss.com website, which posts images and stories from Mayweather headquarters. "He dropped one of the guys with a body shot."

Mayweather has 26 knockouts in his 47 professional victories, but his last inside-the-distance win came under dubious circumstances against Victor Ortiz, who was turned toward referee Joe Cortez when Mayweather dropped him with a combination.

Before that, the last opponent stopped before the final bell was Ricky Hatton -- in 10 rounds -- in December 2007. Outside of Ortiz, Mayweather has scored just one knockdown since the Hatton fight, in the second round against Juan Manuel Marquez in September 2009.

He was forced into a more physical fight in his initial match with Marcos Maidana last May, then was more tactical upon beating the Argentine by unanimous decision in their second meeting in September.

A revved-up training camp version of Mayweather isn't exactly a novelty, though, and may not be his best approach with Pacquiao, according to SecondsOut.com boxing columnist Marc Livitz.

"Maidana made him fight for his life last May, regardless of the ‘I fought that way for the fans' schtick," Livitz told CBSSports.com. "[Mayweather's] known to beat the ---- out of his sparring partners. Swarming Pac would not be the answer, because I still think that despite the fact that Pac is now powerful on each side -- he can still be outboxed."

Pacquiao has 38 KOs in 57 career wins, but has not registered a stoppage of his own since bludgeoning Miguel Cotto into submission in November 2009. He bounced Chris Algieri off the canvas several times in a wide 12-round win in his last fight in November and had dropped Marquez in round five of their most recent meeting in December 2012, but was subsequently stopped himself one round later.

Livitz said pressing the fight might get Mayweather into a more dangerous firefight with Pacquiao.

"An aggressive mindset may lead to a more ‘tit-for-tat' style of contest," he said, "where he'll get more on the receiving end." [Via: CBS]
