These claims are often made in the same spirit in which scam artists present fantastical investment schemes to their victims.

The promise of such rich blessings from an almighty “investment plan” is too much for many people to resist—who wouldn’t want wealth without having to work for it? Alas, it’s this kind of thinking that’s gotten thousands of East Africans conned of millions of dollars by scams that look pretty damn dodgy to regular folks like you and me. Here are 5 of the most recent, and most notorious.



The latest fraudulent scam that claims to be trading in forex and other crypto currencies just opened a few days ago under the domain name www.amazontraders.co.uk, and things are already not good for the many investors that are putting their money into this scam.
The company gets people into investing money with them with a hope of reaping big through daily returns of 1%, 1.4%, 1.7% and 1.9% depending on how much someone has paid. If these investors had only had a closer look at the company website, complete with poorly photoshopped pictures and a banner containing an egregious grammatical error, they might have smelled a rat. Amazon Traders stands on the possibility that, new people will keep investing money that will pay the previous ones. Mathematically, this cycle can not last more than 8 months, and the possibility of a crush and scamming people’s hard earned money is eminent.
Alexa rankings show that 82% of the traffic is coming from Uganda, a clear indication that, this scam has its roots from that nation, and that its claims of being from the UK are as false as their promise of paying investors for 52 weeks.


A company name containing no spelling errors, well spoken salespeople and a presence in the UK. The company aggressively advertised to try to get people to participate in their investment schemes with a hope that their investment shall buy into the most sought-after mineral-Diamonds.

How greedy can some people be! There is no easy money in this world and anybody who offers you a deal which is too good to be true, run, because he is a conman! If you intend to go to Uni and you can't work out that an investiment of six hundred thousand shillings cannot double in 75 working days, then you have no business going to university, where you'll be expected to think for yourself.

These guys (read criminals) spoiled it for the sensible traders out there.
Reality: Forex trading is knowledge and capital intensive, and no you will not double your 600K in 75 days. 600k sounds like a lot by Kenyan standards, but its just about 6500USD. The profitable trading teams in Kenya will have minimums of 10KUSD+ and an investor will probably make about 60% annually, considering the risk management models applied to such a meager amount.
Sorry to break your greedy hearts, but Forex trading isn't an easy way out. Anyone that promises you guaranteed returns is.....in fact lying.
My trading team rejects tens of investors each month due to unrealistic expectations and get rich quick mentalities. Unfortunately they fall prey to scammers and get ripped off then shout over the rooftop.
Bottom line: Forex trading is hard work, risky and not suitable for everyone. If your net worth is below 10M KSHS, consider low risk investments, keep off Forex trading. If its higher than that, then you should be smart enough know what I am talking about.

Someone sent me a video of VIPortal - sleek, well presented....It's on Youtube titled - VIPortal INC... The Naked Truth...

When the CEO claims in the video that he was picked to represent the entire continent of Africa in "The World Trading Arena in Forex and eForex" and the president of NASDAQ was present, I caught myself gasping for breath. If this is the type of stuff that thousands fell for, then even the great redeemer cannot save us here.

These schemes will continue to crop up and proliferate in Kenya because we are a greedy society, we are corrupt and we think that rather than work hard for years, we can put our hard-earned savings into an account, make 80% every 3 months, walk into the RMA showroom and order a custom-made Range.

Greed is what got these people in trouble. Wangai was not able to con people who were not greedy. I remember being told of Vip before they stopped paying and I really tried to get people to stop investing with them. I was called an idiot.
Wangai should be in jail but this is Kenya. Steal billions and you walk free.
By the way, Wangai was not the mastermind and the financer of this scam. Wangai was the errand boy.

I spoke about this thing and people shouted me down saying that it's Gods way of empowering Africans and that God is going to bless them and VIP and Wangai are men of God. Kenyans are just too dumb to see through things. Years come years go, and as King Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun.
