In March, the Court of Arbitration for Sport fined AC Milan striker Rafael Leao with a heavy fine of 16.5 million euros for terminating his contract with Sporting Lisbon unilaterally and joining French club Lille on a free transfer. However, the issue doesn’t end here.

🎙️ Paolo Maldini

"Dear Franco, Happy Birthday to your 60th birthday, an impressive achievement. It's amazing how many years have passed since we first met. You've always been the captain! From the first day I arrived in Milanello, I looked at you as an example to follow." TeamMilanAC on Twitter

Maldini: 'I'll only work for Milan'
by Football Italia
Paolo Maldini has confirmed that he will only work for Milan in football and warned ‘not resuming Serie A would be a disaster’.

Maldini only returned to Milan in the summer of 2018 after almost a decade away from San Siro and was promoted to the role of technical director last year.

His position has come under threat following Zvonimir Boban’s exit two months ago, but the club icon made it clear it was the Rossoneri or no-one.

“I’ll only work as a director for Milan, I won’t do it anywhere else,” he said during an Instagram Live stream with Filippo Inzaghi.

“As a director, you have to be on top of everything. You’re less credible than when you set an example on the field.

“Commitment, always being available, punctual and precise aren’t enough. It’s nice to understand after some time what your board did when you played.”

The 51-year-old then explained why he never saw himself following in the footsteps of father Cesare, who coached Milan and Italy.

“I never wanted to become a coach. I saw the life my father [Cesare] had, how the hair of my teammates changed.

“At the end of my career, I didn’t want to start packing, get back in the game and go again.”

Finally, Maldini was asked about the plans to restart Serie A, with the Diavolo firmly in favour of the season being completed.

“You have to be careful, but not resuming would be a disaster in every sense. France was wrong to stop its football right away, but we’l accept what the government’s verdict will be.

“There’s so much uncertainty. As for training, we’ve closed off the communal parts of Milanello and the players have been divided into four for each pitch. They’re able to work just as well in 12.

“They couldn’t take being at home anymore and neither could we.”
