Maldini: 'I'll only work for Milan'
by Football Italia
Paolo Maldini has confirmed that he will only work for Milan in football and warned ānot resuming Serie A would be a disasterā.
Maldini only returned to Milan in the summer of 2018 after almost a decade away from San Siro and was promoted to the role of technical director last year.
His position has come under threat following Zvonimir Bobanās exit two months ago, but the club icon made it clear it was the Rossoneri or no-one.
āIāll only work as a director for Milan, I wonāt do it anywhere else,ā he said during an Instagram Live stream with Filippo Inzaghi.
āAs a director, you have to be on top of everything. Youāre less credible than when you set an example on the field.
āCommitment, always being available, punctual and precise arenāt enough. Itās nice to understand after some time what your board did when you played.ā
The 51-year-old then explained why he never saw himself following in the footsteps of father Cesare, who coached Milan and Italy.
āI never wanted to become a coach. I saw the life my father [Cesare] had, how the hair of my teammates changed.
āAt the end of my career, I didnāt want to start packing, get back in the game and go again.ā
Finally, Maldini was asked about the plans to restart Serie A, with the Diavolo firmly in favour of the season being completed.
āYou have to be careful, but not resuming would be a disaster in every sense. France was wrong to stop its football right away, but weāl accept what the governmentās verdict will be.
āThereās so much uncertainty. As for training, weāve closed off the communal parts of Milanello and the players have been divided into four for each pitch. Theyāre able to work just as well in 12.
āThey couldnāt take being at home anymore and neither could we.ā
