Stefano Pioli discusses win over Monza, first impressions of Brahim and the transfer window

By Oliver Fisher - 5 September 2020, 23:05

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli stressed the importance of getting into a rhythm as soon as possible after the 4-1 win over Monza on Saturday night.

The Rossoneri followed one from Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Novara by scoring four goals again, and they were four screamers.

Davide Calabria got on the scoresheet with a low drive from outside the box, while Daniel Maldini restored Milan’s lead with a curling shot in the first half.

Pierre Kalulu added a third in the final five minutes with a sweet strike from outside the box, but Lorenzo Colombo somehow outdid the Frenchman with a superb curling shot from the same distance.

After the game Stefano Pioli spoke to SportMediaset about the runout and about the market.

“We have to do things quickly, we have the qualifier [on September 17]. We ran into difficulties, but we put minutes in the legs. There are good indications but there are many things to work on,” he said (via MilanLive).

“We did not recover some injured people such as Romagnoli, Conti, Musacchio and Leao. There are players away with the national team, Brahim Diaz has just arrived. We will start working fully on the 10th.

“Shamrock Rovers will be far ahead of us, it’s a good team with good physical structure and quality. It will be a qualifier to sweat and conquer.”

On Daniel Maldini and the inclusion of young players: “It depends on their performance during training. Today they were ready, the qualities are there but we have to prove it. The shots are important, now we need to tighten and carry on.”

On Ibrahimovic: “His determination is very high. He knows that by playing you get in condition immediately. We know that the qualifier is a difficult match. We have to get mentally ready.”

First impressions of Brahim Diaz: “He only did one training. He has good technical qualities, he works the ball well with both feet. It will take him some time to understand our football. Qualities are important but it has to work.”

On the market: “I work in perfect harmony with management and club. They are ready to improve the team, if the opportunity arises we will not be caught unprepared.”

Finally, a greeting to Berlusconi and Galliani : “I would have liked to see him here, I wish him great good luck. I also say hello to Galliani.”

Pioli: "Me, the technical area and the owners are prepared to improve the team, the transfer market is still long, if there will be opportunities to improve we will obviously do: with quality players you have more chances to win and do well."

Pioli: "The transfer market is only at the beginning, but we have to stay focused on the pitch because difficult games await us, especially the Europa League preliminaries. Let's concentrate on that."

′′ The first goal at San Siro is an indescribable emotion, albeit friendly. I liked the group's compliments, but dads moved me.
This is the beginning of my rematch, against everyone on social media who recommends me. Lot on the field, I live for this shirt 24 hours a day, I don't deserve some criticism.
Yesterday, before the game Mr. Pioli talked to me a lot, saying he would put me on the field and that he expected what I always show in training. I'm happy with the trust he puts in me. I told the whole locker room, before playing, to do me a favor... Not to look at the name behind my shirt, not to judge me for it, but for everything I give for the coat of arms on my chest, for The team I love, for the qualities I have. This is me Daniel."

Pierre Kalulu arrived this summer on a free transfer from Lyon after the young right-back refused a contract extension offer from the French club. The player signed a 5-year contract with the Rossoneri and the first impressions he made on the fans and coach Stefano Pioli are definitely positive.

In Saturday’s friendly match against Monza in which AC Milan triumphed 4-1, many young players showed off at the San Siro, including Pierre Kalulu. The player showed his qualities in the second half of the game, especially his pace, and scored a fantastic goal in the final minutes of the match.

According to Tuttosport (via milannews.it), the player arrived on the recommendation of chief scout Geoffrey Moncada and initially the idea was for him to rotate between the first team in the Primavera. However, the situation could now be different.

As noted by the Turin-based paper, considering Conti’s recovery times and the possible departure of Calabria, Kalulu could remain in the first team and make himself available to Pioli.

Pier Donato Vercellone named new Chief Communications Officer of AC Milan

AC Milan is delighted to announce the appointment of Pier Donato Vercellone as the Club's new Chief Communications Officer as part of the continued investment into the success of the Club.

Vercellone, who starts on Monday 7th September, brings almost 30 years of international communications experience, having served as PR Director for Nike Europe. He has also held senior marketing and communications roles with Italian telecommunications company Telecom Italia and the Municipality of Milan, where he was responsible for promoting the brand of the city of Milan across the globe. More recently, he has worked as the Marketing & Communications Director of Sisal Group, the first Italian company to operate in the gaming and betting industry.

Pier Donato will lead the communications team through an exciting time for the Club, which will see them move to a new stadium and continue their progress back to the elite of European football.

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis said: "Pier Donato is a world-class operator in his field and we are very pleased to announce his appointment. With his international profile, he will help us grow the AC Milan brand further across the globe and his experience, network and leadership will play a vital role in delivering the ambitious vision that we have for the Club".

"AC Milan is an iconic and unique brand with a strong legacy and a bright future" - said Pier Donato Vercellone - "I am delighted to be here and to contribute to further strengthen the emotional bond that ties AC Milan to its fans and stakeholders".

"I want to thank Elliott's management, CEO Gazidis and President Scaroni for giving me the honour of being part of an elite management team" – continued Vercellone – "This will be an exciting challenge that I’m very proud to undertake because Milan is Forever".

Sky: Milan count on Lorenzo Colombo and won’t sign a back up option for Ibrahimovic. They had contact with Colombo’s agent and informed him that they won’t let him go anywhere

Mirabelli on renewing with Donnarumma and Raiola:

“The difficulties are there today, as they were yesterday. When we were there, it was more difficult, because we had just arrived and there was this problem right away, the contract was close to expiry.

“I am amazed that Milan, which had so much time to close a deal, have been reduced to negotiating when the contract expires in 9 months. It is one thing to face a problem like us, with a difficult agent, when there are three years left and another thing is to tackle a problem of this type when there are a few months before the contract expires.

“In my opinion, whatever happens, Raiola will have won. He will make a big splash both in case of renewal and in case of non-renewal.”

*L’Equipe: Milan to match Leipzig’s Fofana offer but Leicester can make decisive move – the latest*

Wesley Fofana is one of the most interesting prospects in the Ligue 1 at the moment and he has been attracting a lot of interest in the last couple of months, including from AC Milan. However, the competition is stiff and there’s a long road leading to the French defender.

Initially, it was Ralf Rangnick who put Fofana on his list of potential reinforcements, but according to L’Equipe (via gazzetta), the Frenchman remained on the Rossoneri’s list even after the deal with the German coach fell through.

There is a lot of interest in the player, with Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla interested. Leipzig have made a 20 million euros offer for the defender and according to the prominent French paper, this offer could be matched by Milan.

But the source also warns that Leicester is ready to make a decisive move and offer as much as 25 million and at that point, Saint Etienne could let the player leave, as it would almost reach the fee paid by Arsenal for Saliba a year ago.

📰L'équipe: AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Leipzig, Arsenal, and Newcastle have all inquired about Georginio Rutter of Rennes, French 18 year-old striker.

📰Sky: After Wednesday's friendly match against Vicenza, Milan will face Chievo on Sunday 13th, which is 4 days prior to the game against Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League preliminaries.

Antonio Vitiello: The slowdown for Bakayoko (due to high request of Chelsea), carries the Milan to look at alternatives, among them Soumare of Lille and Florentino of Benfica.

Juventus need to sell first before announcing Aouar. They have an agreement with Lyon on an special operation: a loan deal (15/20mln€) + an obligation to buy (25/30mln€).

L’Équipe report that after making initial contact with St Étienne on the matter, Leicester City are now poised to lodge a €25m bid for 19-year-old French central defender Wesley Fofana.
.
Last summer, ASSE received a €4.5m bid from RB Salzburg for the player that they seriously considered, before deciding to reject the offer. In winter, Les Verts received €20m bids from RB Leipzig and AS Monaco for the teenager. This summer, ASSE have knocked back two offers for Fofana from AC Milan, one worth €15m and then another for €18m.
.
Milan must act quickly if they wanna sign him. Personally I'd rather go for Kristoffer Ajer or Marash Kumbulla instead of him.
