Boban on signing Zlatan: "Paolo called him first and then I continued also because of the language and the Balkan character we have. It was fun when he called me at around 22:00 on Christmas Eve saying: 'Boban, congrats to Milan, you got Ibrahimović. Merry Xmas, see you soon'." Meytar Zeevi on Twitter

AC Milan are hoping in Andre Silva’s growth to facilitate the swap with Ante Rebic. Both players are currently on loan.

Andre Silva just like Ante Rebic. The Portuguese striker scored his seventh goal with Eintracht Frankfurt tonight, equalizing the number of goals scored by the Croatian winger.

The Portuguese striker, after a fantastic start to the season with 3 goals in the first 4 matches, lost momentum due to a not excellent physical condition. In February, however, the light seems to have returned and the former Porto has started to score regularly again. First in the German Cup, against Red Bull Leipzig, then in Bundesliga with Augsburg finally tonight in Europa League.

Eintracht Frankfurt draw 2-2 with Red Bull Salzburg but proceed in the next round thanks to their 4-1 win in the first leg. Eintracht’s 2 goals were scored by the AC Milan striker. The Portuguese first exploited a fine cross from Kostic and then doubled the result with a shot from the edge of the box.

Silva’s tally this season with Eintracht Frankfurt has reached to seven goals but, unlike Rebic who has only one assist to his name, Silva has assisted 4 goals. Milan hope that the Portuguese talent will not stop, continuing to give his contribution for the Germans. Only in this way can AC Milan close his sale.

In the last days of the summer transfer window AC Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt swapped Andre Silva with Ante Rebic on loan for two years. Both players were valued at €25 million but neither club has the right or obligation to sign the players. AC Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt are expected to resume talks in the summer.

Official: Gazidis lands two new sponsorships for AC Milan – Skrill and Roinvesting

When Ivan Gazidis took on the role as CEO of AC Milan, one of his main priorities was (and still is) to increase the Rossoneri’s revenue through sponsorships and other economically favourable solutions.

Thus far, however, he hasn’t managed to live up to the expectations. The former Arsenal director has just secured small sponsorships, while TIM have left the club’s corporate portfolio. Furthermore, the new Fly Emirates deal will be worth less than the current one.

As MilanNews.it highlights, though, two new sponsorships have been added to the portfolio. Although it hasn’t been announced through an official statement, Skrill and Roinvesting are present on Milan’s website in the sponsor section.

Skrill is a UK-based company, offering money transfer services worldwide, and their CEO happens to be Italian. Roinvesting, meanwhile, is an international financial company that provides advanced trading platforms. It remains to be seen what the details are.

*Pioli: 'Glad Milan-Genoa Postponed'*

Stefano Pioli is pleased Milan’s game with Genoa was rescheduled rather than played behind closed doors, but “I do wish the decision had been made earlier.”

The Rossoneri’s game with Genoa was meant to be on Sunday at 11.30 GMT, but was postponed to May 13 along with Udinese-Fiorentina, Juventus-Inter, Sassuolo-Brescia and Parma-SPAL due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s a difficult situation. They are now trying to bring us back to normality and we hope it’ll be resolved as soon as possible,” Pioli told Milan TV.

“Seeing the streets of Milan so empty is strange and painful, but health comes first. We can only praise those who are working so hard to face this serious situation, hoping unity can help us overcome this latest battle.”

Many are complaining about the decision to postpone rather than play behind closed doors.

“Football is passion and that’s missing when you play in an empty stadium. I spent all week worrying about how I was going to get these lads to understand what it’s like to play without a crowd. I’m happy the game won’t go ahead, but I do wish the decision had been made earlier.

“There have been positive and negative moments in the season. What we’ve done so far is not important, it’s what we leave behind and there is much still to be done.

“We lacked a killer instinct against Fiorentina and made the mistake of thinking we could just control the situation, whereas we must always play with the same intensity.”

Pioli insisted he won’t take credit for revitalising Ante Rebic’s Milan career.

“It’s not true that the coach makes all the decisions, at least not entirely. When the players work hard, are determined and show what they can do in training, they have a better chance of being picked.”

With Paolo Maldini and Zvone Boban seemingly on the brink of leaving AC Milan, Ivan Gazidis will be able to fully commit to his project at the club this summer. By the looks of it, more measures could be taken to save money.

In January, Boban and Maldini did well to lower the Rossoneri’s wage bill overall, parting ways with the likes of Borini, Caldara, Reina and Suso. These four had among the highest salaries at the club, despite not being the top players.

As a result of the cut, they were able to bring in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose request isn’t exactly super low. However, as Gazzetta Dello Sport reports (via Milanlive.it), Gazidis is ready to implement a salary cap at the club, starting this summer.

The newspaper describes the cap as a ‘severe’ cap, which makes you wonder what the future will be for Gigio Donnarumma and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Will exceptions be made? In the coming months, more information on the matter should arrive. ‘

A new total revolution is about to begin at AC Milan. Key figures will leave the club at the end of the season making Ivan Gazidis omnipotent CEO who will decide about everything.

AC Milan brace themselves for yet another revolution reports La Gazzetta dello Sport. According to the Italian newspaper, the adventure of Zvonimir Boban at the Rossoneri is practically over. At the end of the season radical changes are expected that will see Iva Gazidis cement his status as the only commanding figure at Milan.

In addition to Boban, Milan will also sack technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Marassara. Marassara has kept himself out of the recent controversies but being an integral part of the current management, the same fate awaits for him.

The position of Hendrik Almstadt, Ivan Gazidis’ right arm, will be strengthened, just like Geoffrey Moncada, head of the AC Milan’s scouting and video analysis sector. Angelo Carbone, head of youth sector, will be replaced by former Fiorentina academy manager Vincenzo Vergine.

Gazidis aims to wipe away the past and go on with the internationalization path already implemented for quite a while, thus confirming the strategy of patience and construction from bottom-up. Apparently this is what Elliot wants for Milan. The Milan owners and Gazidis have never really trusted the ideas of Boban, Maldini and their collaborators.

At the top of the pyramid of the new Milan there will be Ralf Rangnick. The Head of Sport and development at Red Bul Leipzig expects to be announced soon as the new coach of AC Milan on a three-year contract. A radical change therefore, with Rangnick believed to have the revolutionary skills required to project the rise of Milan. Elliott Management has decided to do everything its way now.

Boban’s future should be decided in the coming hours after his harsh statements given to Gazzetta last week. He is set to meet with Gazidis today. Elliott’s desire is to fire him but it remains to be seen whether immediately or in the summer

The next step is already in place, Ralf Rangnick is ready to land at Milan.
@Gazzetta_it explains that the German and the Elliott fund have made a pact that provides for a three-year contract with an option for the fourth year.

Ralf Rangnick is ready to land at Milan and for this, in addition to making use of the help of his trusted scouts, he would be looking for a top level figure for the market that knows Italian football well. @Gazzetta_it reports that the hunt has already started.

📰 @tuttosport : Frederic Massara could also leave Milan. The revolution sought by Ivan Gazidis continues and could lead to the arrival of a new sporting director, namely Michael Emenalo, former Chelsea manager who in recent days has been spotted at Casa Milan. TeamMilanAC on Twitter

Former AC Milan and Inter striker Christian Vieri has sided firmly with Zvonomir Boban amid his public row with CEO Ivan Gazidis.

The Rossoneri are, quite frankly, in utter turmoil at the moment. Boban is set to be sacked after he spoke out regarding Gazidis’ decision to go behind the backs of the management and agree a deal with Ralf Rangnick for next season.

During the Tiki Taka programme on Canale 5, Christian Vieri sided with Boban regarding his decision to speak out against the former Arsenal chief, attacking Gazidis in the process.

“Gazidis has done a cowardly thing. Boban is not a puppet, he has personality and says things at face value. He said what he had to say,” he said.

“Gazidis has nothing to do with the technical area, he does other things. There are Maldini and Zvone in the technical area. If one is a coward, it is normal for the other not to keep quiet.”

The full video can be found on the SportMediaset website. In other news, Tuttosport are reporting Milan boss Stefano Pioli could resign from his position after Wednesday’s game against Juventus due to the negative atmosphere and infighting at the club, plus the imminent arrival of Rangnick.

Everything is in place for Ralf Rangnick to join AC Milan this summer and begin his German revolution of the club, a report claims.

A number of different outlets now agree that Rangnick is the man entrusted by CEO Ivan Gazidis to lead Milan forward, and Boban had his say on the situation, hitting out at Gazidis by stating that the former Arsenal man went behind their backs when initiating contacts with the German manager.

According to what La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting (via MilanLive) though, everything is practically ready for Rangnick to join the club.

The idea of hiring the former Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig boss was in fact born in London in the headquarters of the Singer family. Gordon, the son of Paul and a big football fan, is the one who has decided to turn the page.

There is of course logic behind his potential appointment, the paper continues. In addition to the results obtained in the Bundesliga, his excellent work from the top floors of Red Bull’s football department also played a role.

In fact, Rangnick was mentioned above all for his ability to create long-term projects and in compliance with the club’s needs, which goes perfectly with the low cost policy Elliott wish to deploy.

In Germany, for example, at the helm of Leipzig, he was happy to take a basic salary with a bonus after promotion.

The source adds that the deal on the table is a three-year contract and with an option for a fourth year. The agreement is armoured and there will be a penalty if either party backs out.

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli could resign from his position after Wednesday’s game against Juventus, according to a shock report.

The Rossoneri are, quite frankly, in utter turmoil at the moment. Director Zvonomir Boban is set to be sacked after he spoke out regarding CEO Ivan Gazidis’ decision to go behind the backs of the management and agree a deal with Ralf Rangnick for next season.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanLive), for Pioli the tensions within the club represent a negative factor and something which is ultimately preventing him doing his job. The situation risks affecting a group that this season has already faced many difficulties and that did not need all this.

Juventus-Milan will be played tomorrow in Turin in the return leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final Cup and it will be a very difficult match for the Rossoneri, who have never won at the Allianz Stadium and have to deal with multiple absences.

The paper claims that it is not excluded that Pioli may resign after the match. The Emilian coach has always been supported by the Boban-Maldini-Massara trio and now that he finds himself with a destiny now marked he could decide to step aside. For now there is nothing certain, but they do not exclude this option.

After another season of disappointment in terms of results on the field, it seems as though AC Milan are heading for yet another revolution off the field.

This time though, it looks like the Rossoneri will opt for a foreign influence in the form of Ralf Rangnick. Club CEO Ivan Gazidis decided to take over the reins and looks set to entrust the German with a double role as head coach and sporting director.

It is only natural therefore to take a look back at some of the recruitment Rangnick has been responsible for during his time at Schalke, Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and the Red Bull football department in general.

Here are five of Rangnick's best signings…

1. Timo Werner
Seemingly now wanted by most big European clubs, Rangnick was instrumental in signing compatriot Timo Werner for what now appears to be a bargain fee of €15m (as per transfermarkt) from Stuttgart for Leipzig back in 2016.

The 23-year-old has 88 goals and 38 assists in 148 games in all competitions for Die Roten Bullen, and now has a market value north of €75m as per most outlets.

2. Sadio Mane
In addition to the Werner, one of the most important names that Rangnick can be credited with scouting is Liverpool winger Sadio Mane. He was signed by Red Bull Salzburg from FC Metz for only €4million. Today, according to Transfermarkt, Mane is worth €140m.

It was with the Austrian side that he made his name, amassing 45 goals and 32 assists in 87 games before joining Southampton and then Liverpool, where he has 76 goals and 33 assists in 158 games under Jurgen Klopp.

3. Roberto Firmino
The Rangnick influence upon Liverpool doesn't end there either, as he was at Hoffenheim when they took a chance on signing Roberto Firmino from Brazilian side Trombense for just over €4m back in 2011.

He spent four-and-a-half years at the Rhein-Neckar Arena, racing up 49 goals and 36 assists in 153 games for the Bundesliga side before completing a move to Anfield, where he has 76 goals and 59 assists in 232 appearances and has established himself as one of the best creative strikers in the world.

4. Erling Haaland
The centre of a huge transfer battle last month, Rangnick also spotted the talent of Erling Braut Haaland and signed him for Red Bull Salzburg from Molde back in January 2019.

The Norwegian teenager would go on to score 29 goals in the 27 games he played for Salzburg which was enough for Borussia Dortmund to take a punt on him. He already has 12 goals in nine games for the black-and-yellow.

5. Naby Keita
Naby Keita was signed from FC Istres six years ago for Red Bull Salzburg, where he quickly progressed and was ultimately then signed by RB Leipzig two years later.

He would play just 71 games there before making a big-money €60m move to Liverpool – completing the trio of players who have been poached by the Reds having been spotted by Rangnick – where he has six goals and two assists in 51 appearances.

6. Julian Nagelsmann
It is also worth considering that Rangnick has a track record as a sporting director for putting the right managers in place for clubs within the Red Bull empire.

He convinced Nagelsmann to leave his old club Hoffenheim and take on a new project in Leipzig, where has is currently in the midst of a battle to win their first ever Bundesliga table, averaging 2.03 points per game since his arrival and impressing hugely with the 3-1-4-2 formation he is deploying.

7. Roger Schmidt
It was back in June 2012 when Rangnick became the sporting director for both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, and he decided to hire Roger Schmidt to be the head coach of the former.

It proved to be an inspired appointment, as he won 68 of his 99 games in charge including a league and cup double in 2013-14 as Salzburg were finally able to overthrow traditional powers Austria Wien and Rapid Wien, winning the title by 18 points.

Not only that, but they scored 110 goals in 36 games in the season they won the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring at least five goals in 11 league games. It was also a big season for the development of the likes of Sadio Mane and Kevin Kampl.

“I've met a lot of people in football, but I've never come across someone who is as mad about the game as Ralf Rangnick,” Kampl said earlier in 2018-19.

“It's just a joy to work under someone like that. He's done a fantastic job.”

Let's hope that Rangnick's European influence can finally help restore Milan back to one of the continent's elite.
