Ibrahimovic: 'Nobody going to stop me'
Football Italia29 Minutes Ago

Comments
Milan hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic was ‘hungry’ for success against Inter after two weeks in quarantine. ‘Nobody was going to stop me playing in the derby.’

The 39-year-old was making his comeback after a bout of COVID-19, yet scored two goals as Milan won the Derby della Madonnina 2-1.

“Milan hadn’t won the derby in four years, I was stuck at home for two weeks, so I was hungry and it showed,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sport Italia.

“I lost my sense of taste a little bit, but I had a swab every three days and nobody was going to stop me playing the derby.”

“I’m disappointed that the penalty was saved, but the important thing is that the team won. I am the oldest in the squad, I feel a lot of responsibility and I like that feeling, as they all follow my lead and are hungry to win.”

Ibra was asked if he was amazed by his own performances, but of course the answer was no.

“I know my level. After the injury, I went to America in order to feel alive. I told Jose Mourinho at Manchester United that I wasn’t ready and didn’t want to be a disappointment, so I went to America.

“Mino Raiola told me to return to Europe, they told me Milan needed me, so I came. I feel like a more complete player now than I was 10 years ago. If I had the fitness levels I did 10 years ago, nobody would stop me. Mind you, they can’t stop me now either.

“I train hard, I play with experience and teammates who are ready to help out. I won’t accept them taking their foot off the gas, in training or in a match. We must always train at 200 per cent.”

After a perfect start to the season, can Milan win the Scudetto?

“We are taking it one game at a time,” continued Zlatan. “When I arrived, the objective was qualifying for Europe and we did it. I do think the Scudetto is a possibility, because if you believe, then you can achieve anything. There’s a long way to go, though.”

AC Milan recorded a fantastic 2-1 win over Inter at San Siro to continue their perfect start to the 2020-21 Serie A season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the man of the hour once again as he scored twice in the opening 16 minutes, and the Rossoneri saw off a late onslaught after Lukaku had halved the deficit in the first half.

Here are four remarkable stats from the game…

– Milan have scored in 24 Serie A matches in a row for the first time since 1973 (when they reached 29).

– Milan have won each of their first 4 matches of a Serie A season for the fifth time in club history. It previously happened in 1995-96, 1992-93, 1954-55 and 1950-51. Milan went on to win the title in each of those seasons.

– Milan will finish a matchweek in sole possession of 1st place in Serie A for the 1st time since March 31, 2012.

– Zlatan Ibrahimovic has now scored eight goals in the Derby della Madonnina, with six being for Milan.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic played it cool when asked whether the current AC Milan side are capable of winning the Scudetto this season.

Ibrahimovic showed his decisiveness once again as Milan continued their perfect start to the Serie A season with a 2-1 win over Inter at San Siro on Saturday.

All the action would be in the first half as the Swede scored twice in the opening 16 minutes, the first a penalty converted at the second attempt.

However, Romelu Lukaku’s goal made it 2-1 before the break and there were visions of last season’s capitulation, but in the end that would be the last goal.

The result means Milan are top of the Serie A table with the only other ‘perfect’ side in Atalanta being thumped by Napoli earlier in the day.

Ibrahimovic was interviewed by Sky Italia at the end of the game, and his comments were transcribed by MilanNews.

“A very important match against Inter. AC Milan hadn’t won the derby for 4 years, I was locked away at home for two weeks. I was so hungry and today I proved it with these two goals. I am disappointed with the penalty, but the important thing is to have won. This adventure continues.”

*On the Scudetto:* “We are at the beginning, since I arrived the team has been doing great things, especially after the lockdown. The team is growing a lot, the mentality is different, the young people take more responsibility. They all train great.

“I feel a lot of responsibility, I’m the oldest in the team. A situation that I really like, everyone follows me and everyone is hungry to win.”

*Are you amazed by yourself?* “I am not amazed by myself. I know what my level is. After the injury I went to America to feel alive. At Manchester I told Mourinho that I wasn’t ready and didn’t want to disappoint him, so I went to America. Then Mino told me to go back to Europe, then they told me that I needed to go back to Milan.”

*On the quarantine:* “I just lost a little taste, I was taking tests every 3 days. I would have played the derby regardless, no one would have stopped me.”

*Do you think you are better from the ages of 30-40?* “I feel more complete, I have more experience. When you are young you are still growing. Now I feel complete, if I had the condition of 10 years ago nobody would stop me, but even now they don’t stop me.”

*On the celebration:* “There was one who was shouting from the crowd, this exultation is only for him.”

*On why he is so effective at 39:* “In my opinion a little bit of everything. Physically I’m fine, I train a lot. I am playing with great experience and I play with team-mates who are willing to do many things.

“They are doing well, they listen, I put intensity on everyone. I don’t accept that they relax, in training and in matches. You have to train at 200%.”

*On Leao:* “He is very strong, he has an almost better body than mine. He has speed, technique. He just has to focus on football as he is doing. He is playing for Milan, there is not much patience here.”

*Again on the Scudetto:* “We are thinking one game at a time, every game is like a final. When I arrived the goal was Europe and we got there. The goal for the club is to arrive again in Europe, my personal goals are different but I keep them to myself (laughs).

*“Scudetto?* In my opinion there is a sure possibility, one who believes can do anything. We believe it, then in the end we will see how it goes. It is still a long road.”

*Were you targeting a particular defender?* “Yes but I can’t tell you (laughs). The coach prepared the game very well, he decided how we should attack. In the first half we left immediately, in the second half we were more in control.”

Well, first things first, WHAT A GAME !!!
.
Zlatan 2-1 Inter. That's the first half result. Inter plays with 3-5-2 which usually goes 5-3-2 while defending. But because of constant change of formation forced to leave crucial spaces on which Milan capitalized in my opinion. And there's no one better to exploit that space than Zlatan. Calabria and Saelemaekars duo on the right looks really good, Calabria gets more freedom to attack with Alexis ahead of him. Leao did decent but couldn't support Theo like Rebić does, lad needs to be more clinical in front of goal. Intet continued attacking but got blocked by Kjaer-Bennacer-Kessie. Romagnoli was decent but clearly looked he was played way too quickly.
.
Kessie and Bennacer, damn what a duo we have in our Midfield !!! Kept Barella-Vidal-Brozović literally out of the game. And Simon Kjaer, damn that's probably the best €3.5m spent in Milan history ! Theo wasn't able to attack like he does as he had to do much more defending than usual, still left acres of space in front of Hakimi. Was excited to see their battle but it wasn't the best of battles, will give it a draw.
.
Things got a little bit ugly in the second half, cards flying here and there, but probably it'll remain a mystery how on earth Vidal wasn't sent off. Lukaku the best performer for Inter, he's probably the best Striker in the league right now, always kept Kjaer, Romagnoli and Theo busy.
.
Same things happening like the past 3 league games, shaky in the final 15/20/30 minutes. But can be forgiven if you consider how much physical the match has been. We were probably lucky that Inter's maximum players are 30+ and couldn't run fast or we would've been dead. Don't give a damn about Zlatan's age, that guy can seriously play till 50 like he says !!
.
Pioli subbed Alexis off for Samu, probably because he thought Samu's pace will be useful against tired and old Inter players but forgot that he doesn't have anything else to offer rather than that pace. Should've subbed in Brahim. Krunić's sub was a surprise but think Pioli tried to balance things in midfield as well as to give a little bit protection to Theo.
.
Can't tell you how happy I am right now. Forza Milan !!

Dybala likes controversial tweet after 90 minutes on the bench
Football Italia2 Hours Ago

Comments
Juventus star Paulo Dybala liked a tweet that put into question Andrea Pirlo’s decision to leave him on the bench for 90 minutes against Crotone.

“I wonder what’s the point of bringing Dybala to Crotone, if not to put minutes in his legs. If he wasn’t in a position to play, wasn’t it more logical to leave him in Turin to train?”, wrote the Gazzetta dello Sport’s correspondent Fabiana Della Valle on Twitter.

The Argentinean had liked the tweet but he removed it after a few minutes.

Dybala felt unwell during the International break with Argentina.

He didn’t play any of the Seleccion’s two World Cup qualifying games due to gastrointestinal problems.

La Joya was not fully fit to face Crotone and Pirlo left him on the bench for 90 minutes.

According to a report of Tuttosport, the Argentinean may start against Dynamo Kyiv in Champions League on Tuesday.

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Alessio Romagnoli, Rafael Leao, Stefan De Vrij
Big header | Soccrates Images/Getty Images
Gianluigi Donnarumma (GK) - 7/10 - Left exposed for Inter's goal. Remained composed as I Nerazzurri flew forward in the second half. An imposing figure between the sticks. Lucky to avoid conceding a penalty.

Davide Calabria (RB) - 7/10 - Had Perisic's number (other than when he was outnumbered on the flank for Inter's first-half strike). Probably relieved Lukaku opted to hug the other touchline during the game.

Alessio Romagnoli (CB) - 8/10 - The stronger of the two centre-backs. Got stuck in and attempted to blunt Martinez's edge with his experience and guile. Headed everything.

Simon Kjaer (CB) - 7/10 - Left his mark on Martinez early on with a heavy challenge. Picked up a yellow card. Great header off the line to keep his side ahead in the first half. Put in some vital second-half blocks.

Theo Hernandez (LB) - 7/10 - Couldn't keep Lukaku at bay at the far post. Did his usual trick of flying forward and providing Leao with a viable outlet. Tightened up in the second half, although struggled with the skills of Hakimi.
6. Midfielders
Franck Kessie, Nicolo Barella

Franck Kessie (CM) - 7/10 - Tidy on the ball, and offered plenty of recovery runs to muck in on the defensive. Booked for a professional foul in the first half. A dogged display.

Ismael Bennacer (CM) - 8/10 - So, so good at turning over possession when Inter were on the cusp of breaking with intent. Provided plenty of vertical balls to push his side forward. Put in a great interception to deny Inter an equaliser in the second half. Here, there, everywhere.

Hakan Calhanoglu (CAM) - 8/10 - Supplied the forwards as quickly and efficiently as possible. Kept the game moving at a nice pace in the final third. Becoming a real asset in this side.

Alexis Saelemaekers (RW) - 7/10 - Kicked off the counter attack for the second goal with a smart swivel. Always cutting in and dragging his marker around the pitch. A tidy, exciting little player.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (ST) - 9/10 - Won and missed the penalty, but converted the rebound. On hand to tap home the second with classic instinct. Gave Milan so, so much off the ball. Just an elite striker.

Rafael Leao (LW) - 8/10 - What a bloody cross! Broke D'Ambrosio's ankles before whipping in the ball for Zlatan to tap home. Thundered up and down the left flank, offering plenty of trickery and posing a lot of problems.

Journalist explains why Paolo Maldini has an ‘excellent’ relationship with Real Madrid

By Isak Möller - 18 October 2020, 20:36

Since Paolo Maldini joined Milan as their new sporting director, the Rossoneri have been linking up with Real Madrid a lot, which is something we often saw during the Silvio Berlusconi era.

Last summer, Milan signed Theo Hernandez for €20m from the Bernabeu side and just a few weeks ago, they brought in Brahim Diaz on loan. In other words, the relationship is seemingly very good between the clubs.

In an interview with MilanNews.it, Spanish journalist Vicente Azpitarte explained why that is the case. He wrote the autobiography of Luka Modric and obviously has a lot of knowledge about the Spanish side and their situation.

“Paolo Maldini is seen as a respectable figure in the Casa Blanca. His relationship with Florentino Pérez is excellent and captain Sergio Ramos’ words of esteem for the Milan legend show that Paolo is the ideal figure to lead the new route of the club,” he said.

In his first years at the club, Maldini has made several good signings and we can only hope that he will continue like this. It will be tough to top the Hernandez signing, that’s for sure, but you never know with the 52-year-old.

Pioli names three players crucial to Milan’s turnaround and discusses renewal of star trio.

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has hinted that the club will try to renew Zlatan Ibrahimovic while picking out three players key to the club’s turnaround.

Since football resumed post-lockdown Milan have the best record in Europe having gone 20 games in a row without defeat in all competitions, winning 16 of them including a huge 2-1 win over Inter on Saturday to move them top of the league.

Pioli spoke to Radio Anch’io Sport on Monday morning about a number of different topics including recent form, his stay at the club and some renewals that need addressing, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

“Our start to the league was important, we are satisfied, but we are only at the beginning. We are thinking about one match at a time. Now we must concentrate on the Europa League, then we will see what happens,” he said.

It must be remembered that a few months ago it was not even guaranteed that Pioli would stay into this season as they club appeared set to hire Ralf Rangnick.

On remaining as boss, he added: “There is a work group that has always thought only about working. The break allowed us to get to know each other better, we were together and we improved our mechanisms. We worked well and now we are achieving positive results.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic showed his decisiveness once again as Milan continued their perfect start to the Serie A season with a 2-1 win over Inter at San Siro on Saturday.
“Ibra is giving us a lot, but the growth of all the others is also evident. Our work is there for all to see, we try to bring out the best in each player.”

On the growth of Milan: “This Milan was born in January 2020 with the arrivals of Ibra, Kjaer and Saelemaekers. From there we have grown, it is a journey that began a few months ago and now the results are coming.

We know that there will be difficult times, but we are a united group that wants to do and always wants to win the next match.”

On the January transfer market: “We shared everything with the club, we tried to strengthen the team and we succeeded. We started from afar with some renewals and some redemptions.

Our investments were for the present and above all for the future. Now we think about winning as many games as possible.”

On the turning point of his Milan: “Since January we have changed our way of playing, we have changed form with Ibra who often exchanges positions with Calhanoglu.

The boys now know each other better, they have more confidence, obviously the positive results help to have greater awareness in our means.”

On Ibra’s future: “Not even he is thinking about the future now. The best thing is to see him happy to train and play, then we’ll see what happens next season. It’s still early now.”

On Tonali: “He had a difficult summer. He is a player with great potential, he has great qualities and knows how to move the ball fast. For me he is a starter, my luck is to have many starters. We are not even anchored to only one game system, we will see along the way.”

On the many goals scored in Serie A: “There is the will to adapt to a more modern and European football.

Everyone wants to try to play the game and therefore it is normal to leave more space behind. It is important to enhance the spectacle, for me it is better to think about scoring one goal more than the others than to concede one less.”

On his work: “We always try to be close to the players to work in the best possible way. We love what we do and we try to do it as best we can.”

On Donnarumma: “The club knows how important he and the other expiring players are. They are working to fix the situation. Gigio, Calha and Ibra are important to us and we will do everything to move forward together.”
On the Europa League: “We are Milan and we have to play every competition with ambition. Playing so much will not be easy and I will need all the players, but I will always play the best line-up.

“We want to do well in Europe, we are in the team. Europe that matters less, but we want to try to win it. Our group is balanced, Lille are first in France, we must try to start our journey well.”

On Bakayoko: “We think we’re okay like this. I have confidence in the four central midfielders I have. I have never dealt with the economic aspect.”
