AC Milan will face ‘a test of strength’ this evening as they battle Manchester United with an injury-depleted squad.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan are a solid team with very clear ideas and will attempt to spring yet another surprise, just as they have done many times in the last year. Of course, it will not be easy to face the Red Devils without the big names, but the Rossoneri know how to prevail in difficulties.

Head coach Stefano Pioli has shown several times that he knows how to cope with emergency situations, and the more difficult it seems, the more he succeeds. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the squad and knows how to guide it wisely, something that he must be commended for.

Pioli will count on the veteran Simon Kjaer and the midfield dynamism of Franck Kessie – therefore the ‘K Factor’ and two pillars in the team. Then, the weight of the attack is all on Rafael Leao’s shoulders.

AC Milan have Lille winger Jonathan Ikone under special observation ahead of the summer window, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com reported recently how Milan and Inter are ready to compete for Ikoné, a 22-year-old winger who has been very impressive at Lille, with whom he is under contract until 2023 and has gathered a market value of €30m.

They added how Ikone is part of Elliott Management’s vision for the Rossoneri in terms of being a young player with potential, and it helps that he is naturally a right winger in a 4-2-3-1, but can also play on the opposite side which will make him an ideal reinforcement for Pioli.

Now, a report from the same source claims that Milan are continuing to make moves on the market in search of the best opportunities to improve Stefano Pioli’s squad ahead of a potential return to the Champions League.

The report states that one player the management have under observation is indeed Ikone, a player that Milan faced in the group stages of the Europa League and he was one of the best on the pitch in both games.

🎙Aaron Wan-Bissaka 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: "The toughest winger I've faced? I would say Neymar 🇧🇷. I enjoyed the experience of playing against him. He's a player who likes to attract fouls, so if I'm up against him, the task is not to give him what he wants." #MUFC #PSG #UCL https://t.co/oyRGDvU7sh

Wait till u meet Sami Castillejo tonight 💪🏼😂

Pippo Inzaghi spoke about Pioli's Milan: "I like it very much. He’s having an amazing season, I’m struck by the enthusiasm he transmits when he plays.
You can see that the boys want to run, attack, bring the club back up.
I'm sure next year Milan will find the #UCL stage again”

It has been referred to as the promised land for many a year now, but the magnitude of qualification for the Champions League in an economic sense cannot be understated.

As MilanNews reports, the Rossoneri are not guaranteed to finish in the top four as they have a four point lead on Juventus, six points over Roma, seven over Atalanta, nine over Napoli and 13 over Lazio (both with a match in hand).

Should Milan qualify for the 2021-22 edition of the Champions League, the Diavolo would earn a €15m participation bonus, a share based on ten-year ranking (also worth around €15m) and a share of the market pool will be added which depends on final positioning in the league (in 2019-20 it was €10m for the first in the standings, then €7.5m, €5m and €2.5m).

There is then also a bonus for results obtained in the competition, and as an example Inter only earned €4.8m this season as they crashed out in the group stages again. Consequently, as a starting point, Milan would take home a figure that would exceed €30m. If they finished second, it would be around €37.5m plus the bonuses dependant on results.

In recent weeks there has been a lot of talk about renewals and potential transfer target, and looking at those numbers it is easy to understand how the management would have more room to manoeuvre with a return to the top four.

“Once I came to Inter we did an analysis on my body and so much has changed. I started eating salads and fish. Since I started this I feel better on the pitch. I feel faster.”
