Milan were heading towards an okay result in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 against Man Utd, then Simon Kjaer stepped up and scored a crucial away goal. Down below are the player ratings.

Starting XI

Donnarumma (6): Didn’t have that much to do this evening and perhaps you could argue he could have done better on United’s goal, but it was very well taken. Decent performance and no major complaints.

Calabria (6.5): Worked very hard in defence as usual and had a wonderful cross almost converted by Krunic. However, he didn’t get as much out of his play in attack, mostly due to United’s defending.

Kjaer (7.5): The big Dane has hit the frame several times this season but managed to get one in the goal this evening, scoring the crucial injury-time equaliser. In addition, he was very solid in defence as you would expect.

Tomori (7): He could have done a bit better on the goal, losing Diallo as a result of Fernandes’ wonderful ball, but other than that he was very good both in defence and in the build-up. Several good interceptions and calm play as well.

Dalot (6.5): Overall he looked a lot better than last time out although he didn’t get a goal this evening. Offered support in the attacking phase and was very comfortable on the ball, unlike some performances this season. Something to build on for sure.

Meite (7.5): Easily the Torino loanee’s best performance in a Milan shirt. Not only did he do well when playing it simple this evening, but he also got out of tricky positions and created a lot with his moves. Very solid defensively as well, really good.

Kessie (8 – MOTM): Yet again, the 24-year-old is the Rossoneri’s man of the match with a simply stunning performance. In defence and in attack, he was absolutely crucial this evening and it’s a shame that he had his great strike disallowed. A true leader, excelling as needed with multiple key players out.

Saelemaekers (6.5): He worked very hard and had some success in the attacking phase, helping his teammates create some space with his movement. Had a few shooting opportunities that could have gone better, but overall solid.

Diaz (5.5): He managed to show himself on the pitch this time and he got the ball quite often, but he didn’t really add much in his role. Kessie was a lot more efficient when moved to the No.10 role in the final 20 minutes, which says a lot. He needs to improve still. Too much sloppy play and too many lost balls.

Krunic (7): Looked very, very good once again after the surprising display at the weekend. Had a few chances to level it earlier but made up for it with his assist for Kjaer’s goal. Despite playing on the left this evening he was an important asset for the team.

Leao (6): It didn’t start too well for the Portuguese as he was offside and out of position several times, but he improved and at least helped Milan create some chances. Won the crucial corner that they converted as well.

Substitutes

Tonali (6.5): Very good from what we saw of him as he chased after every ball and was successful in many of the duels. Showed off his good passing foot and no doubt would have been a higher rating with more time.

Castillejo (N/A): He was on the pitch for as many minutes as Sandro, but he was a bit more invisible and had more of a numerical impact than anything. Therefore, no rating.

Kalulu (N/A): Came on to replace Calabria and did okay but not enough to set a rating

AC Milan has announced a multi-year partnership with global innovator Therabody, making the tech wellness company the Official Recovery Partner of AC Milan's Men's and Women's First Team.

AC Milan has always recognised the psychophysical integrity of its players as one of the most precious assets of a football club and has always applied a systemic approach to improve their health and wellbeing with the aim of optimising the results on the pitch. As part of the new partnership, the Club will integrate Therabody's industry-leading devices and research into pre-and post-match training and recovery protocols to support player performance and to optimize overall health.
Therabody is the creator of the world's first-ever, hand-held percussive massage therapy device, Theragun®️, which is used to accelerate recovery, help prevent injury, and improve athletic performance. Since its launch in 2016, the company evolved from Theragun to Therabody, an entire ecosystem of industry-leading wellness content, products, and services.
As AC Milan's new Official Recovery Partner, Therabody will provide the Club with Theragun devices that can be used in training or on-the-go between matches. The Rossoneri players, coaches, and medical staff will also have access to its network of health and fitness experts through Therabody University, the brand’s educational division offering science-driven, research-backed wellness techniques and resources.

AC Milan Chief Revenue Officer Casper Stylsvig said: "We are delighted to welcome Therabody to our family of global partners. As a modern and innovative Club, we have always been at the forefront when it comes to optimal management of our players."
"However, we are always on the lookout for new ways to improve our performance on and off the pitch - added Stylsvig - and that is why we are particularly proud to join forces with Therabody - recognized internationally as the leaders in self-care and wellness solutions - and to be able to use their best-in-class products to support the health of our players."
Dr. Jason Wersland, Founder and Chief Wellness Officer of Therabody added: "We are thrilled to be supporting AC Milan in its pursuit of player wellness. The Club is incredible on the pitch, and I am honoured to be developing customised, effective warm-up and recovery protocols for the team. I'm looking forward to seeing both the Men's and Women's First Teams take their performance to the next level."

Rafael Leao hasn’t scored a goal for Milan since the beginning of January, when he scored an impressive goal against Benevento, and tomorrow he will start against Napoli. It’s clear that he needs to improve a lot.

The main goal has to be to break the drought tomorrow, but considering his recent form, it might get difficult for him to succeed. Although Milan are in a good position to win, it might not be wise to bet on a Leao goal and with Ladbrokes, you can find other bets.

The Portuguese youngster is a left-winger by nature and he has always performed best in this position. However, as a result of several injuries, Stefano Pioli has had no other option but to start him in the centre-forward role.

It hasn’t exactly been a super successful decision, given that Leao is currently on an eight-game goal drought. Admittedly, he has only played the last three games as the centre-forward, but that just makes the fact even worse.

Milan will take on Napoli at San Siro tomorrow and against what is a weak defence on paper, Leao could get some good opportunities to grab the long-awaited goal. However, in order to do so, he will have to be motivated himself.

Pioli was asked about the former Lille man and the difficulties as of late during today’s press conference. As always, he defended the youngster and pointed to the positives instead, obviously hoping to fuel the striker to perform better.

You have protected Leao these days…

“I always have to protect my players, especially when I see the right attitudes, sacrifice and work. Everyone has this, even Leao. Last year he lacked the skill of staying in the game with more continuity, he has improved on this.

“I expect a lot from him, he is working well for the team, he must continue like this. He has to improve in recognizing game times, at times he wastes energy by sprinting when his teammates cannot serve him. The goal will come,” he said as cited by MilanNews.

We can only hope that the manager is right and that Leao indeed has enough motivation for tomorrow’s game. It’s always tough for attacking players when you don’t score, but the important part is how you get out of the spell.

Should he fail to perform, then Ante Rebic will surely be ready to make an appearance off the bench and bounce back with a goal straight away. After all, the Croatian might be more suited for the centre-forward role.

🎙Theo Hernandez 🇫🇷 on Zlatan 🇸🇪: "He gives us a lot of advice and sometimes even scolds us. When I got back from vacation, he said: 'Where are you going with 90kgs here? I was a little fat. But he also told me that I am strong and that I have to become the best." #Milan https://t.co/yM7ybJ6p5v

Juric: “AC Milan has no weaknesses. Kessié and Tomori are amazing players”
by Kerem Özkan 12 March 2021

Ivan Juric, during his press conference, spoke again about the match against Milan:

“We lost against Milan, it was a negative game. But I want to say one thing. Milan with many absences proved to be a strong team. They have three players out of the ordinary, like Kessie and Tomori. weak points But Milan have no weaknesses”

Paris Saint-Germain are looking to sign either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi ahead of the next season. For that, the Ligue 1 side will reportedly have to offload one their strikers if they are to secure one of the two blockbuster signings.

According to La Repubblica, the frontman in question here is former Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi, who has just joined PSG permanently in the previous summer transfer window.

In fact, the Argentine is not lacking suitors at the moment, as Serie A sides Milan and Juventus are both said to be interested, while PSG are open to negotiations for the player.

Milan led by technical director Paolo Maldini has already held talks with Wanda Nara, Icardi’s wife and agent, as reported by the aforementioned source.

AC Milan want to sign the youngest player to
ever play in La Liga, Luka Romero. The
Argentine has been compared to Leo Messi.

For the mercato, AC Milan have showed that they have a very
clear transfer policy.

The Rossoneri are focusing a lot on
young talents with potential to become top players in the
future but importance is also given to experienced players.
Ivan Gazidis strongly wanted Geoffrey Moncada as head scout
and the former Monaco is doing an excellent job, in
collaboration with Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara. For the
next transfer campaign, other young players are destined to
arrive at Milanello with the Luka Romero being the Rossoneri’s
dream.

The 16-year-old was born in Mexico but has chosen the
Argentine national team despite having a Spanish passport.

Romero plays in Spain with Mallorca and is considered one of
the country’s biggest talents. Goal.com reports that the
talented attacking midfielder has many admirers in Serie A
including AC Milan, Inter, Juventus and Napoli.

Luka Romero is the youngest player to ever play a professional
match in La Liga having made his debut on June 2020, at just
15 years and 219 days in a match played against Real Madrid
at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. A moment that will remain
indelible in his memory.

Despite the relegation of Mallorca, he has not changed club.

This season the young midfielder has made 8 appearances
scoring one goal. The Argentine gem is linked to Mallorca with
a contract until June 2023 although it is not a professional
contract due to his age. He can leave in the summer at
virtually no cost.

Top European clubs have made contacts to secure the young
talent born in Durango. AC Milan are one of this clubs with
Moncada eager to bring him at San Siro.

Nevertheless,
Mallorca will do everything to keep their players offering him a
professional contract of five years with a high release clause.

Romero has often been compared to Lionel Messi. Luka is a
left-footed attacking midfielder only 1.65 m tall but very gifted
on a technical level, fast and skilled in dribbling.

Coach Stefano Pioli will have back under his
orders three key players for AC Milan’s
upcoming match against Napoli.
In the last two games, Milan have play very well against Hellas
Verona first and Manchester United later. Very positive
performances from Stefano Pioli’s team, despite the numerous
absences due to various injuries that currently have plagued
his squad.

The Rossoneri coach hopes to recover some of the currently
unavailable players for Sunday evening’s match, when AC
Milan will host Napoli at San Siro. A very important game for
the Champions League hopes of both clubs. Thankfully, Il
Corriere dello Sport reports that at least three players will be
available for that match.

From tomorrow, Mr. Pioli will have back under his orders some
key players. Alessio Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez and Ante
Rebic will return to the group and all three hope to
play against Napoli.

Romagnoli was part of the squad list in Manchester yesterday
but as a precaution (given the recent muscle pain) he was left
in the stands. Theo Hernandez remained in Italy after a
gastrointestinal problem. Finally, Rebic seems to have fully
recovered from the hip inflammation.

Very in doubt, however, the possible presence of Hakan
Calhanoglu and Mario Mandzukic next Sunday. Both have been
out due to minor muscle injuries but the AC Milan medical
staff do not want to take any risks and will evaluate carefully
their situation before giving the green light to their return on
the squad.

Pioli hopes to have them at least on the bench. Those who will
certainly not be available for AC Milan vs Napoli are Ismael
Bennacer and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. For both, the recovery
appears to be longer, although not far away. The best case
scenario sees them returning in time for the second Europa
League match against Manchester United.

Pioli: “Meité was used to playing slow with Torino. Leao needs to improve” 13 March 2021 During the press conference before Milan – Napoli, Stefano Pioli spoke about Leao’s and Meité: I believe that I must always protect my players.

My players have an attitude of sacrifice and work. He has to improve to affect the game. I expect more, but Leao is working hard for the team. Leao must best recognize game times.

Sometimes it wastes too much energy unnecessarily. He needs to get better at this. Meité has grown a lot. He played differently with Torino, so he had a much lower pace. He tried hard to reach the level of his teammates. Is fine.

He is an important player. I think Tonali can play in his place tomorrow because he is more rested”.

One transfer mistake is costing AC Milan the Scudetto
Posted on March 16, 2021 by Rossonero

AC Milan are struggling to keep the same pace in 2021 and one crucial transfer mistake from the management is proving quite costly.
Since the beginning of the year AC Milan have been unbale to keep their old rhythm. Until recently, the Rossoneri were leading Serie A but now Inter have a 9 points advantage and are marching secure towards the Scudetto.

In 2021, AC Milan have lost five matches scoring just one goal in the process. The statistics clearly reveal that the Rossoneri have a problem in attack and that’s due to the bad decision-making from the management in the January market window.
From late November till early January, Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed 8 Serie A games in a row because of two different injuries. His age and the fact that Stefano Pioli had only one centre forward under his orders forced AC Milan to prioritize the signing of a new striker in January. After many names, the club decided to sign Mario Mandzukic.

The choice was a clear mistake that is proving quite costly. At the beginning many had doubts on the physical conditions of the Croatian striker. Mandzukic had been out of football activities for six months after terminating his contract with Al-Duhail. So far, Mario Mandzukic has played in only 5 games for a meager total of 158 minutes.

The 34-year-old centre forward has missed 8 games because of muscle injuries. In such a crucial moment, when he was supposed to serve as Ibrahimovic’s replacement, Mandzukic is unable to contribute because he’s injured. Perhaps that was something expected considering his age and the fact that Mario was not playing football for more than six months. At the most crucial stage of the season Milan are playing without a centre forward.
