Massimiliano Mirabelli, a former Milan manager, was interviewed by the Libero newspaper, and answered various questions including the one on Gianluigi Donnarumma's contract renewal.

Mirabelli: “I don't understand how Milan came to this situation. The timing was wrong, it is absurd to deal now. The contract should have been renewed two seasons ago, it is the ABC of football.

The Rossoneri have made a serious mistake. When I had Gigio renewed, I took care of the negotiation down to the smallest detail.

A media outlet published some posts on social media and shortly after they were removed. Because? Simple, Mino Raiola made him write them, I made him delete them. The decisive moment of the negotiation was the final act.

We were with Gigio, his family and his agents. Raiola gets up and says: 'Don't sign, we're leaving'. As soon as the managers left, Gigio takes the ballpoint pen and extends the contract.

Without the presence of Mino ”. So how should milan resolve the matter? “Raiola is good, he

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future resolved, AC Milan are looking to add another striker to complete the department ahead of next season, a report claims.

According to this morning’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive), the renewal of Ibrahimovic for a further year is now a done deal and only the official announcement is missing, as the Swede will keep the current €7-7.5m net salary while the club will take advantage of a tax deduction due to the Growth Decree.

The idea of Milan is to support Ibra with another striker as Mario Mandzukic’s arrival has been a gamble that has failed to pay off due to muscular problems, so need a younger striker who can guarantee goals and games is key.

Andrea Belotti is the name mentioned by the paper as he has a contract expiring in less than a year and a half – in June 2022 – and the Rossoneri are ready to put €25m on the plate to land the Italy international.

The Milan management will also have to deal with the competition from Roma though, who however have no intention of taking part in an auction, so Belotti will decide his future. The 27-year-old forward has never hidden his passion for the Rossoneri but Roma are of course an option given he would find several friends from the national team there.

AC Milan have a replacement in mind for Hakan Calhanoglu in the event that he does not renew his contract, according to a report.

If Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s renewal seems to be almost done, Milan are battling with two other expiring contracts in Gigio Donnarumma and Calhanoglu, both of whom are on deals expiring on 30 June.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Milan’s priority remains the renewal of the Turkey international but in the event that he were to leave in the summer, Milan are eying Josip Ilicic of Atalanta to replace him.

The paper explains though that the deal could only happen if the Bergamo side were to accept negotiation conditions similar to those that saw Papu Gomez join Sevilla, therefore a low transfer fee of around the €4-6m mark.

The situation will no doubt evolved more in the coming days and weeks as the fate of Milan with regards to the Champions League becomes more apparent.

A conversation was held between Paolo Maldini and full-back Theo Hernandez at Milanello on Thursday, according to a report.

Tuttosport (via MilanLive) writes that Maldini intervened directly to discuss Theo’s tough patch of form with him and his struggles – which the paper cites as being more mental than physical – during a meeting yesterday at Milanello.

Maldini recently spoke face to face with several Rossoneri players to try and understand what is not going well compared to several weeks ago, given the team’s drastic dip in form in 2021 so far. Maldini confirmed his absolute esteem for the Frenchman, who of course he personally led the mission to sign back in summer 2019.

The technical director encouraged Theo and asked him not to give up right now, at the peak of the season and to work with calmness without mulling over his mistakes. There is also no talk about the player’s future as he will remain very close to Milan for the next few seasons, regardless of qualification in the Champions League.

🗣“He is great, we had a great time together. When I arrived he told me to commit myself and enjoy it because Milan is a club with an important history. He asked me to work hard and fit in well with the group.”

Alessandro Costacurta, during the pre-match of Sky Sport, commented on the negotiation for the renewal of Donnarumma: “I am bothered by Donnarumma. Why do you kiss the shirt if he doesn’t renew? We also had agents but I have always signed with Milan without thinking about money. I don’t like this situation “

Maldini: “We are close to signing with Ibra. Donnarumma? Short contracts are a choice, but…”

Paolo Maldini spoke to Sky Sport in the pre-match:
“Mandzukic is sorry. He thought he wouldn’t get hurt. He knew about this risk because he was out for a long time. Donnarumma? The short contracts our players ask for are a choice. I’m not here to judge. two. We are very close to Ibra’s renewal, only a few details are missing “
