Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe was spotted on video stating that he would only join AC Milan if he were to move to Italy.

Mbappé finished second in the 2023 ‘FIFA Best Award’ to his PSG team-mate and world champions Lionel Messi, but the winger was spotted speaking to an Italian fan who asked him to move to Serie A one day in the future.

“If I come to Italy it’s only for Milan,” Mbappé replied. The Frenchman’s love for the club is well known given there is a photo of him as a young boy in the 2010-11 home shirt.

The AC Milan squad will be back in training tomorrow at Milanello and important news is expected regarding Ismael Bennacer and captain Davide Calabria, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports how – after the victory against Atalanta on Sunday – Stefano Pioli granted two days off to his players in order to help them recover best, and they will return to training on Wednesday at Milanello.

The paper claims that Calabria and Bennacer should rejoin training with the rest of the squad tomorrow and should also therefore be available for the trip to Florence on Saturday night.

However, it is uncertain at the moment whether either of them will be fit enough to start the game against Fiorentina and it seems more likely that they will be on the bench from the first minute, with the game next Wednesday against Spurs in the Champions League a more realistic target.

Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello has admitted that AC Milan are looking at building a new stadium alone, adding that Inter too have a potential back-up plan in mind.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com) reported over the weekend that Inter have been working in secrecy for some time to build a stadium on their own, in the event that there is a split with Milan and the current project cannot be carried out.

The paper even claimed that Inter have picked a location which is top secret and don’t want to risk ruining agreement already signed with the entrepreneur who owns the private land, adding that relations with Milan are now tense.

Now, Inter’s CEO Antonello spoke to MilanNews after this morning’s meeting between Inter, Milan and the mayor of the city Giuseppe Sala in which the new stadium issue was once again discussed.

“It was an official meeting, the atmosphere was cordial. The main option remains the San Siro stadium together with Milan, but today the Rossoneri officially communicated their formal interest in the La Maura area,” he began.

“In the coming weeks, appropriate assessments will be made. Then we will meet again to understand if that area will be the object of development or if we will go ahead with the original project, therefore together with San Siro. Inter have always been consistent in recent years. If Milan were to go to another area, Inter also have an alternative plan.”

On the San Siro project: “The idea of building the new stadium together remains alive. Now we have to wait for Milan’s analysis of this new area. As far as the conditions expressed by the City Council are concerned, we are ready to respond, but at this point we have to wait for Milan’s analysis.”

On the alternatives for Inter: “If Milan go to La Maura, Inter have a plan B in another area and not at San Siro. The area has already been identified, but we can’t reveal it. It’s an area outside the city of Milan.”

On the choice of Milan: “Are we surprised? No. What surprises us is that we were proceeding together on this project, but when there is a change of ownership there can be different visions. We are very clear on what we have to do.”

On the future of San Siro: “We can’t answer, you have to ask the Council.”

On the timing: “Two or three weeks to allow Milan to carry out their analyses on the area, then we’ll meet again.”

On the area chosen by Inter: “There are few areas inside Milan, one of these is La Maura. It’s easier for it to be outside.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his comeback after 10 months out with a knee injury and showed Milan teammate Alessandro Florenzi in training how ready he is to start banging in goals.

The Swede underwent knee surgery in May 2022, just days after helping his side secure the Serie A title.

He returned to the field as a substitute in the matches against Atalanta and Fiorentina, but is tipped to potentially start or at least play longer in Monday’s clash with Salernitana.

📰 CM: #Keita was offered a move to #ACMilan but did not pursue the opportunity for two reasons: his salary is too high and his injury problems.

AC Milan will take on Salernitana on Monday evening and following the draw against Tottenham mid-week, Stefano Pioli could make some changes to the XI. In fact, he could make as many as four, a report claims.

The Rossoneri are flying high after advancing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. However, the schedule has been tight lately and it will thus also be good to give some of the players a bit of rest.

According to Sky Italia (via Francesco Nasato), reporting from Milanello, Zlatan Ibrahimovic carried out individual training today as scheduled (not because of an injury). Olivier Giroud was tested in attack but it remains to be seen if he will start, with Divock Origi also waiting for his chance.

In defence, Simon Kjaer could replace Malick Thiaw while one of Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic should get some rest. Brahim Diaz could also be rested after a fantastic but demanding performance against Spurs.

Naby Keita is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer and his entourage has offered his services to AC Milan. However, the Rossoneri have their concerns about the player, a report claims.

At the age of 28, Keita was to reignite his career with a new adventure elsewhere and as reported by Calciomercato.com, his entourage is working hard on that. However, he’s not the player he was when he joined Liverpool for €60m in 2018.

Milan have been offered his services but have not acted on the opportunity for two reasons: 1) his salary and 2) his injury struggles. Since he joined Liverpool, he has missed a whopping 84 games due to injuries.

Inter, on the other hand, are keener on the opportunity as per the report and it seems Keita could end up in that part of Milano instead. It should also be noted that Milan have decent depth in midfield already and will want to invest their money elsewhere (such as the attack).

Brahim Diaz has been in tremendous form recently and this has shifted focus to his future once again. His two-year loan will expire in the summer and AC Milan will try to redeem him, a report claims.

The Spaniard has had his ups and downs this season but in the last few months, he has been able to find consistency. He might not always find the back of the net or bag an assist, but he adds something that no other Milan player currently adds.

Against Spurs, he was absolutely essential in tracking back but also in always showing himself, allowing a way out for the defenders and midfielders. Almost every chance that Milan created, prior to his substitution, stemmed from Diaz.

According to MilanNews, it remains to be seen what Real Madrid’s intentions are but the Rossoneri want to keep him. Not at the €22m agreed upon when the loan materialised, but there seems to be room for negotiation.

A lot will likely depend on the will of Diaz but also the potential departures at Real Madrid (such as Asensio).

Milan are currently fighting for a spot in the top four domestically and secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League mid-week. Regardless of the latter, though, top four is a must.

In our latest Substack article, which you can read here, we broke down the revenue that Milan have collected from this season’s Champions League. It’s north of €100m, which is great, but also shows just how important a top-four finish it.

Milan are battling it out with Inter, Lazio and Roma as things stand. Inter lost to Spezia last night and Lazio will face Bologna tonight, while Roma play Sassuolo tomorrow. Milan, of course, will take on Salernitana on Monday.

Rade Krunic has become a fundamental part of Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan side and in the last few weeks, he has really shown his qualities. Against Spurs, he was crucial in the defensive phase for the Rossoneri.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, since he arrived from Empoli in 2019 for a mere €8m, Krunic has been a great resource for Pioli: Mezz’ala, deep-lying midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger, false-nine and even full-back.

The Bosnian international has played almost everywhere for Milan. He’s a player that doesn’t make much fuzz and always follows the instructions of the manager. A dream for the latter, in other words, and he has grown a lot in the last three years.

This season, he has made 20 appearances, starting five out of seven games in the Champions League and also scoring against Salzburg. Against Spurs, even though Ismael Bennacer was available, Pioli bet on Krunic and it turned out well.

He renewed his contract until 2025 back in September and it’s clear that he will remain an important part of the Milan team. The recent words of Maldini confirm this.

Former AC Milan man Dejan Savicevic has congratulated the team for getting back into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and praised the performances of Brahim Diaz.

Speaking on Milan’s Twitch channel, Savicevic commented on the Rossoneri after their success in the Champions League and also how the two current playmakers in the squad are getting on, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“They fought and ran a lot throughout the game. We played well, it’s a pity we didn’t win despite the opportunities we had, but the important thing is that we are back to celebrating such an achievement after so many years,” he said.

Savićević was considered one of the best playmakers in the world during the 1990s and he was nicknamed Il Genio (The Genius) by the Italian sports press during his time at Milan, so it would be fair to say he knows the position well.

The current President of the Football Association of Montenegro spoke about Charles De Ketelaere’s start to life at the club after his arrival from Belgium last summer.

“He must quickly understand what Italian football is like, how difficult it is and what the coaches in Italy ask of attacking players is more than what others ask,” he said.

“He must learn that he must also run backwards, he must get used to Italian football quickly. He must get used to what Pioli asks of him, who proved to be a great coach, winning the Scudetto last year despite the fact that in my opinion there were a couple of stronger teams on paper.”

He also gave his thoughts on Brahim Diaz who scored the decisive goal in the first leg against Spurs and seems to be ahead of De Ketelaere in the pecking order at present.

“He had some difficulties at the start, but now he’s playing better and better. We hope he can show all his talent. He has great qualities, otherwise he wouldn’t have played for City, Real and Milan.

“In my opinion he should have more self-confidence, even if he does something wrong, he must believe in his means and in his qualities. He must not be afraid, if he does he will give even more.”

AC Milan will take on Salernitana at San Siro on Monday evening and Stefano Pioli is expected to make a couple of changes to the starting XI. In fact, both Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi could start.

Following the success against Tottenham, Pioli is looking to make some rotation as quite a few players could use the rest. Starting at the back, the MOTM last time out Fikayo Tomori could be replaced by Simon Kjaer, who is keen on some playing time.

In midfield, Ismael Bennacer is certainly ready to play from start and that means Sandro Tonali should get some much-needed rest. He wasn’t always technically brilliant against Spurs, but he ran a lot and was crucial in that regard.

Finally, as Gazzetta Dello Sport conclude, Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi should replace Brahim Diaz and Olivier Giroud respectively in attack. Some suggest that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in the running, which would be interesting.
