Pierre Kalulu is not expected to leave AC Milan this summer with the management instead looking for a complimentary defender, a report claims.

The Frenchman arrived at Milan as a relative unknown from Lyon and enjoyed a rapid rise to being an established starter during the Scudetto-winning season, but like Fikayo Tomori he struggled to find consistency in 2022-23.

Alessandro Schiavone – who is part of the Di Marzio team – recently reported that Milan listen to offers for Ante Rebic, Divock Origi and ‘not surprisingly given his drop of form’ Kalulu as well.

Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com was asked on Twitter and he responded to the rumours that Kalulu could depart the club after four years.

“Kalulu… I don’t think he will leave, Milan are looking for a left-footed defender who can also play as a full-back,” he said.

It comes after his report on Calciomercato.com stated that Milan seem to have fallen on Evan N’Dicka as a concrete target. The French centre-back will leave Eintracht Frankfurt on a free at the end of the month and he ticks a lot of boxes, including the fact he can play left-back.

It seems AC Milan will have a fight on their hands to keep hold of Primavera midfielder Victor Eletu after he rejected a deal, a report claims.

Eletu is one of the most interesting players in Milan’s Primavera side as we analysed in a feature over the World Cup break. He is mostly a deeper-lying midfielder, and he had a great December in which he netted a goal in a senior friendly and then extended his contract until 2025.

As an interested aside, that deal was negotiated and signed off by Ted Dimvula, the lawyer that was in talks with Milan over Rafael Leao’s extension which recently got over the line too.

According to what is being reported by TMW, Eletu’s intention is to take a step forward in his career after a great season with the Primavera and after his excellent performances at the U20 World Cup in Argentina for Nigeria.

For this reason, Eletu has for now refused the five-year renewal that Milan offered him which would kick in when he turns 18, thus making it his first professional deal.

As mentioned above, he is however contracted to the Rossoneri for another two years and if he does see his future elsewhere there will need to be a meeting with the leadership.

Moretto: Milan offer top salary and starting spot to try convince Bundesliga duo
by Oliver Fisher
AC Milan have activated talks with the entourage of two Bundesliga players that they hope to sign on free transfers, according to one journalist.

According to Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Milan have opened talks with the agent of both Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka and Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram in view of their deals expiring later this month.

The journalist states that the Rossoneri know that they are ‘starting at a disadvantage’ after the break in talks over the duo, but ‘they are willing to try to convince’ the pair with the project that they are pitching.

Among the incentives put forward by the new Milan management are a salary among the top earners in the squad and a starting role in the team for next season.

However, at the moment it seems Roma are the big rivals for N’Dicka and PSG have moved for Thuram, so there is strong competition to beat if Milan are to pull off what would be a statement double signing.

GdS: De Ketelaere and Adli can leave for the right price as Milan begin clear-out
by Oliver Fisher
Part of the work that the AC Milan management must do this summer concerns offloading players no longer deemed to have a position in the project.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes this morning, the proceeds from sales will be important for Milan to top up the transfer budget available for signings, as well as freeing up wages and spots in the squad.

Ciprian Tatarusanu, Brahim Diaz, Aster Vranckx, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Sergino Dest have already said goodbye to the squad, because their contracts or their loan deals expire at the end of the month. The total salary quota has already been reduced by over €12m net, therefore.

Then there is Divock Origi, who was a big disappointment. He scored just twice, and he did not really give the impression of being a leader despite his experience at Liverpool, while earning €4m net per season.

Three more years remain on his deal, unless the club manages to find him an alternative accommodation, with some Turkish clubs keen. If the offer is right, he will be sold without regrets.

Then there is Ante Rebic. Pioli excluded him from the squad list for three consecutive matches to end the season so his time with the Rossoneri seems destined to end after 123 games and 29 goals.

He may have a market in Germany or even in Turkey, but the problem for every interested club is his €3.5m net per season salary, which he earns as part of his contract that runs until 2025.

Yacine Adli is another case to be resolved. He was bought for €10m in the summer of 2021 but was left on loan at Bordeaux for a season, showing promising signs in preseason but only getting 140 minutes of playing time and one start.

For the right price he will leave too, because the past few months have clearly made it clear that his characteristics do not work well with the coach’s ideas.

The most difficult solution to find is one for Charles De Ketelaere, who cost €32m plus bonuses to sign from Club Brugge and was the statement of the post-Scudetto smmer window.

He made 40 appearances, starting 13 times, with zero goals and one assist to his name. The Belgian is for sale but the right offer is needed: to avoid a capital loss it must be at least €28m.

Journalist offers reason for Maldini's sacking and predicts Milan to adopt a reselling model
by Oliver Fisher
Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were largely sacked because of how bad the 2022 summer transfer window ended up being, a journalist has suggested.

Milan’s project has been thrust into uncertainty after the news that Maldini and Massara were dismissed from their respective roles as technical and sporting director less than 24 hours after the season ended.

It was meant to be a stable but important summer heading into a big 2023-23 season – which you can bet on with 188BET – but now there are fans rightly questioning what the plans are moving forward.

After the sudden dismissal of the two directors, MilanNews spoke to respected journalist Marco Bellinazzo of Il Sole 24 Ore regarding the decision and the reasons behind it.

How should Cardinale’s move be interpreted from an economic and financial point of view?

“I understand the sense of bewilderment of the fans, but modern football is like this. The major shareholder will have deemed the last summer transfer window unproductive and has chosen to sack the two main exponents.”

Maldini is the symbol and an icon of Milan…

“In modern football there is neither credit nor recognition. Did you win the Scudetto the year before? Good, however, we evaluate the year that has just ended. Evidently, Cardinale had other plans in mind.”

And what strategy?

“Trying to increase revenue. Milan navigates in a good financial situation. Now, perhaps, we want to get into gear, especially in terms of infrastructure…”

The Rossoneri fan is more tied to Maldini’s story than to the RedBird investment. Does Cardinale have a long-term development plan in mind or is he going for quick profit to sell as soon as possible?

“I think he has in mind a development plan based on the American model. Cardinale is very familiar with the income from sports in the United States. Much of it depends on the progress of infrastructure. I think he wants to build the new stadium as soon as possible.”

And then?

“And then he could consider passing Milan into the hands of another owner. That’s how the economy works now.”

What kind of summer window should Milan fans expect?

“I think the biggest operation has already been done with the renewal of Leao, a player who – at an international level – guarantees competitiveness and enhancement of the Milan brand. After that, I don’t think there will be major technical upheavals, young players will be bought – following a sustainable model – valued and, possibly, resold to obtain a capital gain.”

In the end, it is a war of ideologies. The American sports business model vs Italian passion for Sport. The Americans believe that they can be competitive but with sustainable spending. The Italian side of people believes that winning comes first and that owners should be; as passionate as the fans like those in the past (Berlusconi, Moratti, etc).

Also, the failure to change. While English, German, and to some extent Spain have embraced changes and adopted new scientific methods, the Italians still believe in old-school methods, and anything new is not accepted. When people including me talk about how Youth is not being integrated and given a chance it is because of fear of change. Very few clubs have embraced change and one of them is Milan because of foreign owners.

The Americans meanwhile believe their systems are the best and foolproof and that being sustainable is the only way to go. Stubborn in their ways and refuse to budge from their beliefs. Both sides seem to not give an inch.

I think people need to give it (the new project) time. The project has just started and the window isn't even open. We need a full season to judge things.

Maldini failed to convince a lot of players himself man. It's just a lot of narratives that make people think only a phone call was needed.

Players go to clubs based on their individual preferences and what they want. Some want money, some want playing time, some may have other preferences like where their partner wants to live, etc. All these decide a transfer, not just "who calls".
