Your internal revenue is not enough to cover the budget, leave alone buying expensive planes.

Kenya imports food, then according to you even food you buy from loan, because Kenya borrows money to supplement it's budget deficit?, if your way of reasoning is correct, then Kenya borrows to pay for food, salaries and all other recurrent expenditures.

My point is, if Kenya owns 20 planes based on your press released, then your parliament is useless, that means Kenya as a country is useless, you don't trust your parliament but you trust press release, that's why Kenya is a failed state.

For my part kenya plays well is this area. If you are eligibal for a loan of up to 20 planes while you capacity is only 3 planes, it means that instead of using usd 250mil to only purchase one b 787 you use the same amount to earn a loan in which you are eligible up to 20planes that is tricky.

This un-dated statement is in contradiction with CS Macharia’s statement reported on 06/03/2019.

Anyway, whether or not you like my thread, take it as an FYI. I’m an international traveller hence this info is a heads-up. I’ve been wondering why the Kenyan Airport Authority (KAA) staff is bitterly opposing the proposed KQ-KAA merger thereby resorting to going on strike. These are sister companies and all along the KQ has prided itself as a successful going concern. Therefore my point in bringing this up is to let people know the ostensibly closely guarded secret about KQ. Even some Kenyan MPs seemed dumbassed, let alone the public at large. The government was forced to come clean in the wake of the strike.

There are serious reasons as to why the KAA objects to the merger. So the long and short of my post is that people should have a reason to doubt KQ as a scam!! You lease planes that you have not paid for in full…In essence, what you are doing here is inflating the number of planes you ‘own’, that’s why one has to look at it as a scam. I need an educated mind to convince me otherwise.

Babu Owino seems to have a dossier of the scam and that’s why he has all along given the KAA strike unwavering support. This has nothing to do with politics, its economics and there is a reason why it has boiled down to the ownership of the planes!! I’m also wondering whether there’s any SkyTeam member operating on a fleet that is 92.5% leased from other companies or not fully paid for!!

The banks that converted their debt to equity are the local banks, whereas the banks that financed the planes are big international banks.
Namely: JP Morgan, City Bank, Afrexim and Standard Chartered International.

I'm pretty sure KQ would end up with no less than 10 fully paid planes, by virtue of money spent servicing the debt over the years.

That said, there are 40 planes flying with KQ colours. There are 3 planes flying with ATCL colors.
I give your village airline 15 - 20 years before banks agree to lend it that kind of money.

KQ can own zero planes but it is still KQ.

Most major airlines are moving towards leasing.
Actually total leased planes has grown from 30 something percent to over 50% in the last decade.

Only amateurs like ATCL, or countries with unlimited oil money are buying their own planes.
