na mada hii itaendelea kufunua tu sentiments za kibaguzi badala ya kuzifisha chini chini. It is time to come out everybody who is a chagga-hatter.. njoo na kisingizio chochote kile, ili ile siri ya familia yetu tuwe wa kwanza kuikubali.
 
Just my Take; The Secret to the Chaggas success for those who dont know has a strong cultural, historical and geographical foundation.... Its a combination of these three aspects that have given the chaggas an upper hand in certain area of commerce, education and proffesionalism.

Fisrtly the Chaggas live in a very fertil enviroment condusive for gowth of many types of crops, maize, cofffe, bananas etc. This has given them a strong trading point which has been a great source of wealth for them. This wealth has enable farmers to educate their kids an emphasis they so as being very important.

Secondly the kilimanjaro region borders Kenya, so naturally as the rest of the country was endulging with the hardships of Ujamaa, the chaggas were trading like crazy with their Capitalist neighbours, (Cowhides and coffe, crops, etc going to kenya; Beer, Soap, Magarine, colgate etc, coming from kenya). Many Chaggas dont really know what ujamaa was to date.

Thirdly the enviroment was condusive for missionaries to come along to spread the word and build churches but more importantly schools in the region. This is the basis of a sound education.

Fourth is that chagga are a very cultural and proud peoplewho shun the lazy and praise and acknowledge the hardworking and prosperous. This is an aspect that is deep founded in chagga culture. Hardworking and prosperity is measure by financial trappings to which all look for to acquire pride and respect "Nyumbani".

The combination of wealth, educational, geographical and strong cultural aspects make what chaggas are today some aspects are by design some by default....

Hapana, awe mchagga au msukuma wa kwetu..mtu ukiwa muhangaikaji una stahili kupata unachokipata. Sema kama watu wanapendeleana au hawana vigezo, you can rise an eyebrow. Ila all in all nakubali, WACHAGGA WENGI NI HARDWORKING and most of them they deserve to be where they are. Just like every body! Wasukuma wenzangu..tulikalia kuchunga ng`ombe..ndo hivyo wakina Masanja walio kwenye system ni wachache mno!

Honestly speaking, Mimi siyo Mchagga, but I admire them, wanajua kuhangaika kuliko makabila mengi ya Tanzania. Harafu bwana tunaona wachagga kama wako kwenye nafasi nyingi kwa sababu ya umaskini....kama tungekuwa na uchumi imara..ni kwamba wengi wetu tungekuwa absorbed kwenye sectors nyingine. haya malalamiko yangekuwa hayapo..lakini angalia sector zenye "ulaji" za jamhuri ni TRA na BOT...kila mtu macho yake yako pale! Sasa jamani tufanyeje? tuungane wote tuchape mzigo...maana raia million 40 hiyo BOT na TRA hazitutoshi!

Suluhisho: Kama mtu amekuwa hired kwa mlango wa nyuma, lets condemn that and report it where possible. Lakini haifai kulaumu mtu mwenye kisomo chake ati alipendelewa! Harafu ukishajenga mentality kwamba unaonewa..ndo hivyo utaonewa kweli.

The Chagga (also called Wachaga, Chagga, Jagga, Dschagga, Waschagga, or Wachagga) are Bantu speaking indigenous African ethnicity and the third largest ethnic group in Tanzania. They live on the southern and eastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, as well as in the Moshi area. Their relative wealth comes from not only the favorable climate of the area, but also from successful agricultural methods which include great extensive irrigation systems and continuous fertilization practised for thousands of years. They were one of the first tribes in the area to convert to Christianity. This might have given them an economic "advantage" over other ethnic groups, as they had better access to education and health care as Christians.

The Chagga have descended from various Bantu groups who migrated from the rest of Africa into the wonderous foothills of the mighty Kilimanjaro. While the Chagga are Bantu-speakers, they do not speak an undifferentiated language but rather a unique mixture of related Chagga dialects. These dialects are related to Kamba, which is spoken in the northeast Kenya along with other languages spoken in the east such as Dabida and Pokomo.The Chagga land is traditionally divided into a number of politically independent chiefdoms with a superior egalitarian social system. The Chagga are culturally related to the Pare, Taveta and Teita peoples. They follow a patrilineal system of descent and inheritance. The Chagga subsist primarily by agriculture, using great methods of irrigation on terraced fields and oxen manure to develop the fields. Although bananas are their staple food, they also cultivate various crops including yams, beans, and maize. In agricultural exports, the Chagga are best known for their Arabica coffee, which is exported to American and European markets, resulting in coffee being a primary cash crop.

Nyerere hated Chaggas from the word go because they were never easy for his idiologies.

Mangi Mkuu's downfall
Mangi Mkuu's downfall was due to two main reasons:

First, He lost support among western educated people. When chaga students at Makerere University criticized him in their college magazine, he publicly humbled them when they came home, in an "old" tribal ways. He placed his faith in Petro Njau, the elderly astute party organizer who had put him in. From 1958 Njau set himself the task of enlisting the support of the old conservatives and the clan elders. This was a spurious return to the great tribal past. But Mangi mkuu believed and trusted implicitly in him, and in the exaggerated accounts of popularity which Njau reported.
Second, Mangi Mkuu crossed swords with T.A.N.U on his home ground of Kilimanjaro. He still supported the national aims of T.A.N.U for Tanganyika. He continued to support Julius Nyerere personally, as the national leader long after he had begun to deal summarily with local T.A.N.U critics at home, perhaps because these critics did not need to be taken seriously, since they were insignificantly unrepresentative of the people. In 1957-58 the British Administartion were belatedly trying to organize a council of Chiefs in Tanganyika as a delaying action against T.A.N.U, Mangi Mkuu wrote the governor asking that Nyerere himself should be invited to address the Chiefs. The request was refused. It was not until 1959, when he was fighting for his political life, that Mangi Mkuu cut across Nyerere personally and cut across the national movement as such. In January 1959, by which time he was sharply on the defensive at home, Mangi Mkuu criticized Nyerere's visit to Moshi to hold an open-air TANU meeting in the town. A few months later he circularized the chiefs on the mountain, threatening to sack them if they supported TANU.

TANU
In the local field of Chaga politics, however the break came earlier. It did not come from TANU branches as such which, though they had started in 1955 on the mountain, had made little headway among the people. It came from Machame, from the chiefly rival whom Mangi Mkuu had supplanted in 1951. Chief Abdieli Shangali threw the weight of his authority behind his son-in-law, Solomon Eliufoo, and this was the decisive factor. Eliufoo, a commoner from one of the oldest clans in Machame, and a Lutheran-trained teacher, was abroad in the United States and Great Britain from 1953-1956. In 1957 he returned as a teacher and joined the TANU branch in Machame. In 1958 he entered politics; he became a nominated member of the Chagga Council, being nominated by Hai divisional council of which his father-in-law, Chief Abdieli Shangali was chairman. The same year he was elected member of the legislative council in Dar-Es-Salaam on the TANU ticket. From 1958 onwards he was engaged in central politics becoming Minister of Health from 1959 to 1960, and in 1962 Minister of Education, a post which he held up to 1967. At the local level, he organised and led opposition to the Mangi Mkuu and by 1959 he called for the resignation or abdication of the Mangi Mkuu and the democratization for the local governments, forming a new party called Chaga Democratic Party


Chagga Democratic Party
Towards the end of 1959 the opposition of the Chaga Democratic party forced a deadlock in the Chaga Council. A vote was taken in the council as to whether a referendum should be held on Kilimanjaro to decide whether the Chaga wanted a Paramount Chief for life or a periodically elected president. The Vote was carried by a narrow majority, and the Mangi mkuu was abolished. After independence, through Nyerere's socialism and integration policies, the rule of Chiefs, was diminished.


[Modern history
The current Chagga population is estimated at about 2 million. They once used to live under the rule of the Mangi Mkuu, even though they are not as organised as they used to be, and the Mangi is not involved in the day to day activities and life of the modern chagga. The Mangi's are still respected by the chagga. The Paramount chief (chief of all chiefs) is Mangi Marealle. The chagga are now modern wage earners in large modernised cities or abroad and entrepreneurs in the tourism industry around Kilimanjaro and Arusha areas. The Chagga still try to hold on to some of their traditions like the allocation a kihamba, a plot of land for each family. A kihamba is a Chagga family plot of land, usually passed down from generation to generation. Coffee is the primary cash crop for many Chagga people after its introduction to the area in the late nineteenth century, although bananas and maize are also staples. The Chagga are also famous for a traditional brew known as mbege. It is made from a special variety of bananas and millet.


In North America
In recent times, the Chagga have adopted a practice of bestowing honorary membership in their tribe to influential foreign tourists, particularly individuals from the United States. The current U.S. Chagga emissary is Mr. R. Tremaine of Massachusetts, who traces his Chagga roots to a Tanzania vacation in November 2007.

Kuna vumbi la chuki, fitina, wivu, kisasi, na hisia za kibaguzi dhidi ya jamii ya Wachagga nchini. Kuna kila dalili kuwa jamii ya Wachagga nchini siyo tu inaanza kutengwa lakini uwepo wake katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi inazua hoja ya ukabila kwa haraka zaidi yawezekana kuliko kabila jingine lolote nchini. Katika Tanzania yetu, wachagga wameanza kunyoshewa kidole siyo kwa siri tena bali kwa wazi kabisa tena na watu ambao wakati mwingine hawapati hata kigugumizi.

Ubaguzi huo msingi wake mkubwa ni idadi ya wachagga katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi na hasa kuhusiana na elimu yao. Kuanzia mara tu baada ya uhuru jamii ya wachagga mojawapo ya jamii ambayo watu wake wengi wamesoma sana na kufanikiwa kielimu na kiuchumi imekuwa ikinyoshewa kidole cha kupendelewa.

Mtu yeyote ambaye anaweza akafanya uchambuzi yakinifu hatoshangaa kukuta wataalamu wa kichagga katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi au taaluma nchini. Kwenye vyuo vikuu, kwenye idara za serikali na hata kwenye taasisi binafsi kumejaa watu wenye asili ya mkoa wa Kilimanjaro na hususan watu wa jamii ya Kichagga.

Endapo itatangazwa nafasi yoyote ya kitaalamu usishangazwe ukiona kuwa waombaji wengi wana majina ya "Kichagga".

Ni kwa sababu hiyo basi kuna kila dalili kuwa kutokana na wingi wao katika nafasi muhimu na vyeo mbalimbali (hata ndani ya Jeshi la Polisi) Wachagga siyo tu ni wengi lakini wanaonekana kufanikiwa zaidi. Hili ni tishio kwa baadhi ya watu. Ni tishio kwa watu ambao hawako tayari kuangalia jitihada za watu katika kufanikiwa kwao na matokeo yake kushutumu ukabila kila idadi ya Wachagga kwenye kitengo fulani inazidi mmoja.

Ushauri wangu ni kuwa, kwa vile Wachagga wameshasoma sana na kuendelea katika biashara karibu mikoa mingi nchini. Na kwa vile wanaendelea kufanikiwa pia katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi nchini, basi itakuwa vizuri kama watajitolea kuachilia nafasi hizo ili kuwapa nafasi watu wa makabila mengine.

Kwa vile ni wao wanaonekana kulalamikiwa kutokana na mambo ya kifisadi aidha kwa moja kwa moja au kwa kuashiria basi ni vizuri wawape watu wengine nafasi hizo hata kama watu hao hawajasoma sana. Hii yote itakuwa ni katika kudumisha mshikamano, umoja na udugu wa Taifa letu.

Endapo Wachagga wataachilia nafasi mbalimbali kama UCEO, Ukurugenzi, Ukuu wa Idara n.k watasababisha watu wawapende na kuwakubali kuwa ni wazalendo wa kweli. Sitoshangaa kuwa ndugu zetu wa Jamii ya Kichagga wakikaa pembeni, basi ufisadi utakoma serikalini, idara zitaongozwa na watu wazuri, na mara moja na daima Tanzania itaanza kukua katika uongozi.

Kwa kupendekeza nashauri wabunge wote ambao ni Wachagga au wana asili ya mkoa wa Kilimanjaro kuachia ngazi mara moja ili watu wa makabila mengine wapewe nafasi hizo. Siyo wao tu bali pia wabunge ambao wameoa au kuolewa uchagani vile vile wafuate nyazo hizo.

Wakishamaliza hao, wakuu wote wa idara za serikali ambao wana asili ya mkoa wa Kilimanjaro na hasa wa jamii ya kichagga (wamarangu, wamachame, wa Rombo, na wa Kibosho) na wao waamue kuachilia nafasi hizo kwa ndugu zao Wamakua, Wamwera, Wa Ndali, Wadigo n.k Katika hili Wapare hawahusishwi.

Tukishamaliza wakuu hao wa idara za serikali ningependekeza madaktari wote wenye kumiliki hospitali binafsi ambao ni wachagga au wameoa/kuolewa uchagani na wenyewe waamue kuingia ubia na watu wa makabila mengine kama wangengereko, wambuu, na wanjiro ili hayo makabila madogo na wenyewe wapate nafasi ya kujifunza fani hizi muhimu.

Zaidi ya yote, majaji na mahakimu wote ambao wana asili ya Uchaggani na wenyewe waamue kujitoa katika nafasi hizo kwani wingi wao pia unaonekana sana na hivyo kuwa kikwako kwa watu wa makabila mengine kufanikiwa zaidi katika nyanja ya sheria. Kwanza kabisa wale majaji wa Kichagga wa mahakama ya Rufaa na Mahakama Kuu wawe wa kwanza kuweka manyanga chini.

Katika kufanya hivyo jamii ya Watanzania ambao inaona ukabila wa wachagga katika sehemu nyingi itaridhika kwani kwa mara ya kwanza tutakuwa tumeshughulikia chanzo cha matatizo yetu mengi.

Kama kwa hiari haiwezekani, Rais anaweza kutoa agizo (executive order) na kutaka wachagga waachie ngazi na wakae pembeni kwa angalau miaka mitano ili watu wa makabila mengine wapate nafasi. Hili linaweza kuwahusu Wanyakyusa na Wahaya vile vile. Kama hawatafanya kwa hiari tunaweza kufanya kwa nguvu hata kwa kutunga sheria maalum ya kuwalazimisha.

Total Elimination of Chaggas from the system. I know what they will do. .Go back to Kilimanjaro, create land towards Mt Kilimanajaro .Build high raised buildings , and start KILIMANJARO EMPIRE ANDER MANGI MKUU.

Ubaguzi huo msingi wake mkubwa ni idadi ya wachagga katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi na hasa kuhusiana na elimu yao. Kuanzia mara tu baada ya uhuru jamii ya wachagga mojawapo ya jamii ambayo watu wake wengi wamesoma sana na kufanikiwa kielimu na kiuchumi imekuwa ikinyoshewa kidole cha kupendelewa.

Mtu yeyote ambaye anaweza akafanya uchambuzi yakinifu hatoshangaa kukuta wataalamu wa kichagga katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi au taaluma nchini. Kwenye vyuo vikuu, kwenye idara za serikali na hata kwenye taasisi binafsi kumejaa watu wenye asili ya mkoa wa Kilimanjaro na hususan watu wa jamii ya Kichagga.

Endapo itatangazwa nafasi yoyote ya kitaalamu usishangazwe ukiona kuwa waombaji wengi wana majina ya "Kichagga".


Ushauri wangu ni kuwa, kwa vile Wachagga wameshasoma sana na kuendelea katika biashara karibu mikoa mingi nchini. Na kwa vile wanaendelea kufanikiwa pia katika nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi nchini, basi itakuwa vizuri kama watajitolea kuachilia nafasi hizo ili kuwapa nafasi watu wa makabila mengine.

Kwa vile ni wao wanaonekana kulalamikiwa kutokana na mambo ya kifisadi aidha kwa moja kwa moja au kwa kuashiria basi ni vizuri wawape watu wengine nafasi hizo hata kama watu hao hawajasoma sana. Hii yote itakuwa ni katika kudumisha mshikamano, umoja na udugu wa Taifa letu.

Endapo Wachagga wataachilia nafasi mbalimbali kama UCEO, Ukurugenzi, Ukuu wa Idara n.k watasababisha watu wawapende na kuwakubali kuwa ni wazalendo wa kweli.

are these your personal sentiments against a tribe? I thought you could do better than this......Is it their fault that they excell wherever they are? Couldnt it have been better if you would have reserved your hatred? are you advocating for what happened in Rwanda in the 90's.....

Talking of ufisadi... i thought this transcends tribal or religious inclinations...I can predict that your next move will be to single out religious groups and call for their purge...

I for one wouldnt like to associate myself with your stand!

Maanake kuna watu wanaweza kuja na hizo hoja na kutaka hadi kuelekea UN kuomba kujitenga,nani alijua kutakua na majasiri au tuwaite majina tutakayoweza,kuwa huko Pemba kuna mtu au kikundi cha watu kitaibuka na kuomba kujitenga hadi kupeleka madai yao UN? watu wanaweza kuaamua kujitenga na kuunda Chagga Kingdom.

Matokeo yake utakuata sasa watu wanatumia muda na resources nyingi kukabiliana na vuguvugu kama hilo.Nasema madhara ya haya mambo ya kisiasa yakigeuzwa kuwa hisi a binafsi na watu wakazoeshwa kuamini hizi hisia potofu,basi madhara yake ni makubwa kuliko tunavyoweza kufikiri.Kama leo hili suala linaweza kugeuzwa kuwa ni vita kati ya Mchagga na Mkurya,leo wangwe anaweza kurudi Tarime ili apokelewe kishujaa halafu awaambie watu wake,mimi kama mkurya sikubali kuonewa na mchagga.Unaona tayari tatiz hapo litakua tayari limeanza kujitengeneza?
