Dar — es-Salaam - In A surprise move, the management of Motel Agip in Dar-es-Salaam, one of Tanzania's leading tourism and business facilities, this week confirmed plans to close the hotel despite indications that the hotel industry was picking up.


The 57-room hotel in downtown Dar is slated to close on December 18 after 35 years of operation. More than 150 workers will be laid off. The hotel's managing director, Mr. Emmanuel Mantheakis, told The East African that the decision to close down had been taken to allow shareholders to run other businesses.
