Kipeto wind energy station is a 100 MW wind power station under construction in Kajiado county. It will be the third wind power station in Kenya after the lake turkana wind power station and the Kengen Wind power station in Ngong Hills.
It will be the second largest wind farm in east and central africa after the lake turkana wind power station on completion.

It is closely being followed by the Kengen Meru Wind Farm which started construction in December 2019 and will become the largest wind farm in africa on completion. Both Kipeto (100 MW) and Kengen Meru wind farm (400MW) will generate an additional 500 MW of clean wind energy. Planned projects include the Isiolo wind farm which is about to sign a power purchases agreement with KPLC.

Kenya is proving to be a word leader in renewable energy with 90% of it's installed electricity capacity currently coming from renewable sources and it is projected to be leading africa in wind power and solar power generation once all under construction and planned projects are completed.

The government has a target of the country being fully powered by renewable energy by 2021.
Kenya aims to generate 2,036 MW of wind power, or 9% of the country's total capacity, by 2030.

Completed wind farms:
i) Lake Turkana Wind Farm, 310 MW (Largest in Africa)
ii) Kengen Ngong Hills Wind Farm 35MW (Kajiado County)

Under Construction Wind Farms:
i) Kipeto Wind Farm, 100 MW (Kajiado County)
ii) Kengen Meru Wind Farm, 400 MW (Meru County)
iii) Meru County energy Park, 100 MW (Meru County)

Planned Wind Farms:
i) Isiolo wind Farm, 150 MW
ii) Marsabit Wind Farm , 50 MW phase 1 and 200 MW on completion

Lake Turkana wind farm, Kipeto wind farm, Meru energy park, Isiolo wind farm and Marsabit wind farm are private investments. Kengen Meru Wind Farm and Kengen Ngong hills are owned by Kengen (Kenya electricity Generating Company PLC) which is 70% owned by GOK and 30 % by private investors in Nairobi stock exchange.

Lake turkana wind farm was the largest private investment in Kenya's energy sector with a price tag of $720 million.

It is illegal to construct on someone else's land. GOK will not put up anything on your land without consulting and compensating you. The land belongs to GOK and people grabbed the land. Work and buy your own land instead of grabbing GOK land.

so we let about 100 families enjoy free public land meant for expansion of sewerage services for millions in Nairobi? Your own GOT does not even consult or compensate on private land let alone public land.

Remember when GOT demolished 7,351 houses on private land in Kurasini to expand the port, leaving about 36,000 people evicted with their homes destroyed.

Inaondoaje njaa sasa?
Njaa sio kila kitu. Bila umeme hata huwezi zalisha chakula au kusiaga unga. Umeme pia ni muhimu. Usiwe akili yako inafikiria kuhusu tumbo kila wakati. Fikiria kuhusu mustakabali wako pia.
