I just came to understand that Kenya has very little military experience when it comes to inter-state battles and has never had involved in any of such fightings before. So despite being provoked, they should re-think on their current campaign in Somalia before things turn even worse against them.

Mwita25, i will excuse your myopic way of analyzing the current situation the Kenyan leadership finds itself.Invading Somalia was not an option the Alshabaab had to be stopped they had gone overboard and our patience had reached its limit.About military experience in interstate wars.....again i will excuse your ignorance on basic history....the last time i checked the only real interstate war that took place was betwn Ethiopia and Eritrea,this are the only countries that can brag about experience in fighting,i wonder who are this countries with" military experience" you are comparing Kenya to! It's too late now. IN the international arena image matters and a country cannot surrender after threats from individuals, no matter how powerful they are. it is a matter of prestige and credibility. The mistake was to go on war without calculating the risk of increasing domestic insecurity. Proliferation of small weapons and ammunition is a problem in Kenya (mostly from Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia) and containing all that is a challenge.
Their only way of exiting this situation is to accelerate the process in Somalia (kumbukeni the "black falcon operation")... Good luck!

I don't concur with the assertions that the Kenyan army acted impetuously in their decision to attack El-Shabaab thugs deep inside their "Safe heaven" as they had no option apart from the one they opted.
The Army and the government of Kenya anticipated beforehand such possibility of sporadic terrorist attacks from the group and were well prepared for them. One of the principles of war is to attack the enemy in depth and Kenya has just done that. As a a person with a background in military tactics I fully support the gallantry and brave action by the progressive Kenyan forces and I predict victory to them.
To say that the Kenyan Army has no or very little experience when it comes to inter state battles amounts to sheer absurdity for two reasons; one is that the Kenyan Army is not fighting any state in Somalia but a group of organized bandits and the state of Somalia that is also fighting them, and secondly Kenya as the national army has an upper hand against those thugs as they have only one front to fight, that is Al - Shabaab against their enemies who have several fronts to combat. The Al -Sahaab have the AU Army in one front, the Somalian Army in another and the determined and dedicated Kenyan Army in the Kenyan front.
My advice to Kenya authorities is that they must clamp groups that utter or show sympathy to these criminals as their country is now in the state of war. Their National assembly will do their country better if they will pass laws to discourage people and groups that overtly or covertly support their country's enemy - The El Shabaab thugs.

My friend if it was that easy, I bet the mighty Americans would be sighing in relief.

In Tanzania there is a famous adage which goes like: vita ni moyo siyo silaha!

As a private citizen of this region, I would say that clearly Kenya is fighting the Mzungu`s war. Ofcourse Americans cannot let their sons and daughters incur another humiliation akin the one in 1993. Ofcourse US wamewaambia serikali ya Kenya waingie Somalia wao watalipa Bills (leo Ufaransa kaahidi 'kuisaidia' Kenya kuwapa vifaa vya kupigana huko Somalia. Lakini kiukweli Kenya cannot win this war (if there was such thing like winning anyway!). Ofcourse I fully share Kenya`s concerns having Al shabaab in your doors isnt an appealing thing. But, Kenya and other African countries should wake up and invite Al shabaab kwenye meza ya mazungumzo. Mjue wanataka nini. This simplistic mind ya kuwaita sijui terrorists, thugs, criminals etc..will never solve the 'Somali question'. Its the same Western countries that refused to talk to Talibani branding them all names..na sasa matokeo tumeyaona..sasa wanataka kuzungumza nao wakati hao jamaa wameshakuwa radicalized! And ofcourse Americans and their drones and military mighty will never win in Afghanistan.

As they say: Its the stupid who learn from their mistakes, the wise learn from the mistakes of others. Kenya should clearly stand firm against Western countries who are halpless in Somalia and expect the priceless Africans to fight on their behalf. Ofcourse their interests in Somalia is purely on their maritime interests and not the plight of poor Somali`s.

I wish Kenya good luck (and they really need it). But fighting this Mzungu`s war, will certainly inflame the already delicate situation and given the proximity of Somalia and Kenya and the huge number of Somali`s in the country, its just a disaster in waiting!

Police have arrested 18 members of the proscribed Mombasa Republican Council during dramatic raids on several premises in Likoni estate where the group was allegedly administering oaths to recruits.


A team of General Service Unit, Administration Police and regular police officers staged the Sunday evening raids in which a man was reportedly shot dead and scores of others injured.

We condemn the use of excessive force on innocent children and youth who were watching a football match at a video café. Police are using excessive force to punish unarmed people," MRC spokesman Mohammed Rashid Mraja said.

He warned the government to avoid using force to disrupt the group's meetings.


"We call on the government to stop acting in a manner that could spark violence. If that is the way they want to operate, then the group will re-strategise and deal with them," he said.


Mr Mraja said the MRC would not stand by and allow its members to be killed or injured by "rogue police officers".


"If the Constitution allows us to hold meetings freely, why are the police behaving like this? We will continue to champion our cause," he told Daily Nation.


Mr Mraja dismissed recent statements by Prime Minister Raila Odinga that the Coast was part of Kenya, saying, the PM was aware of agreements between the Kenyan government, the Sultan of Zanzibar and the British government.

Somalia's Udubland hails Kenyan military
NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 25 – The leadership of the Udubland region of Somalia has welcomed Kenya's military offensive against the Al Shabaab militia.

Ibrahim Abdullahi Addow, who is the president of the semi autonomous region, said on Tuesday that Kenya has the moral obligation of protecting its country and has all the rights to do what it can to guard its land and people.

He also condemned latest incidences of kidnappings and grenade attacks saying it was unfortunate and described those responsible for such acts as ‘cowards'.

"Some cowardly acts that have recently taken place in the soils of Kenya, I would like to extend my condolences, this type of vicious cowardice act, we condemn it with the strongest terms," he asserted as he called on Kenyan neighbours to work with the country in addressing such crimes. "We will collaborate with Kenya; we are not going to hide because such people (Al Shabaab) do not represent us."

Addow appreciated that Kenya has always supported Somalia in various issues and it was not right that such attacks were going on; "We are hosted by a great neighbour and a great nation Kenya."

Meanwhile, security remained tight in most of the public places within the City of Nairobi following two grenade attacks on Sunday and Monday.
A spot check by Capital News revealed that security guards are equipped with security gadgets to detect any destructive weapons entering public premises.
At Kenyatta International Conference Centre, people and their luggage were being screened thoroughly.
The public resting place in front of Hilton Hotel remained a no go zone as security officers dressed in civilian clothes cordoned it off.
One of them who did not want to be on record has told Capital News that keeping away idlers is one of the security measures they are undertaking following the two grenade attacks in Nairobi.
"You know what has happened, so we are asking people not to sit here for the sake of maintaining security," the officer said.
At Nairobi's railway station people said they did not feel protected as it was hard to detect who the attackers were.

"Like for us cart riders (mkokoteni) how can someone tell what I am carrying with all these sacks? We can only ask God to protect us, there is nothing much we an do," said one of the business people at the rail way station.

Another hawker said he believed the Kenyan police and army will manage to protect Kenya as he wished them the best in their operation in Somalia, "We have faith in our army, I am sure they will bring to an end to all these attacks, it is unfortunate that we have had some grenade attacks, but we should not give up."

Kenya ilipeleka majeshi yake Somalia Oktoba 16 kulishambulia kundi la al-Shabab, ikisema imetishia utulivu wa nchi hiyo.
Nairobi imelishutumu kundi hilo kwa kuhusika na utekaji nyara Kenya, ikiwemo ya mwanamke wa Kifaransa, Marie Dediieu, Oktoba 1.
