This becomes one of the Kenya’s judicial fast where a case has been determined in under a week.

Bwire, who appeared before Nairobi chief magistrate Gilbert Mutembei, also pleaded guilty to causing grievous harm to two people — Justus Makau Mulwa and Patrick Ndolo Kinyingi — on October 24 at the Kaka Bus Stage along Race-Course Road and also possessing dangerous weapons.
He also pleaded guilty to a charge of engaging in organised criminal activity by being a member of an outlawed criminal group.
Further, he admitted being in possession of four firearms — an AK-47 rifle, a Sub-Machine Gun and two revolvers — without certificates.
He was found with the guns on October 25 at Kwa James Building in Kayole Estate Phase I.
The suspect also pleaded guilty to being in possession of ammunition without the relevant certificate.
Bwire was dramatically arrested at Kayole Estate in Nairobi on Tuesday where he was seized with 13 live hand grenades.
On Monday October 24, one person was killed in a grenade attack at Nairobi OTC bus stop hours after several others were wounded when a grenade was detonated in a bar in the city. Bwire, aged 28 and from western Kenya, admitted guilt in court only to involvement in Monday night’s grenade attack at the bus station.
Despite Bwire’s guilty plea, al shabaab leaders continue to deny responsibility for the attacks, which wounded more than two dozen people.
Kenya blames al shabaab for the recent spate of kidnappings of foreigners, but the hardline rebels have denied the accusation.

Security forces vehicle hit in northern Kenya, 3 wounded

Fri Oct 28, 2011 1:18pm GMT

ISIOLO, Kenya Oct 28 (Reuters) - An explosion in northern Kenya near the town of Garissa wounded three members of the east African country's paramilitary police force (General Service Unit) on Friday, medics and police said.

"The vehicle in which the officers were travelling was extensively damaged and partly burned after being hit by what we suspect might either be a landmine or a bomb," said a police source in the provincial headquarters, who declined to be named.

"We have received three patients who have been injured. Two are in a serious condition with burns and fractures," said Musa Mohamed, a medical superintendent at the Garissa general hospital.

Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe confirmed the incident and said more details would be given later.

I am trying to put myself in the feet of some terribly young Kenyan being eaten by mosquitoes in the mud of central Somalia, facing a vicious, brutal enemy.

The only thing that keeps his spirits up is the thought that he is fighting for his country, that his countrymen will be grateful for it and honour him, and that if he is killed, they will give him a decent burial and comfort his mother.

The most disheartening thing for him is to be abandoned by those for whom he believes to be fighting for.

We can debate the rationale for the war, we can even discuss tactics on the pages of the New York Times as some retired generals are doing.
But our thoughts and support must remain with those young people, we must continue to demand that they be given everything they need to win the war and keep safe.

One day some years back when the US embassy issued an advisory asking its citizens to keep off downtown hotels for fear of a terrorist attack, a former British High Commissioner, Sir Edward Clay, took a walk on Kenyatta Avenue and enjoyed a nice cup of tea at The Stanley.

An eloquent man, Sir Edward.

The intention of Al-Shabaab is to terrify us. The only way to defeat them is by not being afraid and getting on with our lives.

US pledges Kenya logistical support
Friday, October 28, 2011

The United States government has denied involvement in the Somalia operation to flash out Al- Shabaab militants. US has clarified that it is only offering logistical support to the Kenyan troops inside Somalia from within the Kenyan territory.

US ambassador Scott Gration told journalists in Nairobi Friday that his government will continue supporting Kenya to curtail any external aggression.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Yusuf Haji has denied media reports that the government is negotiating with Al-Shabaab to end Somalia operation. On Thursday, Foreign Affairs assistant minister was quoted saying that the government is in constant communication with the militia group and is ready for talks with it.

And during a press briefing, the Government Spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua vowed that the government would never negotiate with a criminal gang like the Al Shabaab.

Mutua exuded confidence that Kenya was already winning the war against them.

Meanwhile, business enterprises in Nairobi are losing nearly Ksh 80 million daily as customers shy away from the Nairobi Central Business District (NCBD) following the recent spate of grenade attacks that have been witnessed in the City.

The most affected businesses include shopping Malls, Bars, hotels, Restaurants and the transport sector.

Speaking during a protective security advice meeting for businesses in the Central Business District (CBD), Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) Chairperson Timothy Kariuki told people to go about their day to day activities normally to prevent collapse of businesses.

"It is important that Kenyans continue with their normal lives despite the threat posed by the Al-Shabaab militia as shying away from Malls, Bars, hotels, Restaurants and public transport system is greatly affecting the country's economy", added Kariuki
