Kenya haina lolote.

Al Shabaab suspect pleads guilty to arms possession charge

Police say the arrest of a man seized with grenades and an assortment of arms in Kayole on Tuesday evening thwarted a double terror attack that had been planned for Friday in Nairobi. Police claim that Elgiva Bwire Oliacha alias Mohammed Seif, heads one of the Nairobi cells of the militant group Alshabaab and as Yassin Juma reports, the man is not denying any of the charges.

Somalia said Wednesday it had not agreed with Kenya for its troops to enter the south of the Horn of Africa nation to fight Islamist rebels, but would form a security committee to work with Nairobi.

Somali President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed objected to the 11-day Kenyan incursion in comments on Monday and Kenya in turn demanded an official clarification of the Somali government's position on Wednesday.

"We also share the attitude that al Shabaab constitutes a common enemy to both countries and in this regard, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of both Somalia and Kenyan should be respected," the statement said.

I don't concur with the assertions that the Kenyan army acted impetuously in their decision to attack El-Shabaab thugs deep inside their "Safe heaven" as they had no option apart from the one they opted.
The Army and the government of Kenya anticipated beforehand such possibility of sporadic terrorist attacks from the group and were well prepared for them. One of the principles of war is to attack the enemy in depth and Kenya has just done that. As a a person with a background in military tactics I fully support the gallantry and brave action by the progressive Kenyan forces and I predict victory to them.
To say that the Kenyan Army has no or very little experience when it comes to inter state battles amounts to sheer absurdity for two reasons; one is that the Kenyan Army is not fighting any state in Somalia but a group of organized bandits and the state of Somalia that is also fighting them, and secondly Kenya as the national army has an upper hand against those thugs as they have only one front to fight, that is Al - Shabaab against their enemies who have several fronts to combat. The Al -Sahaab have the AU Army in one front, the Somalian Army in another and the determined and dedicated Kenyan Army in the Kenyan front.
My advice to Kenya authorities is that they must clamp groups that utter or show sympathy to these criminals as their country is now in the state of war. Their National assembly will do their country better if they will pass laws to discourage people and groups that overtly or covertly support their country's enemy - The El Shabaab thugs.

Big up! Good and insightful observation!

Hao wasomali wenyewe ndo wamewapa wafaransa "kisingizio".

Zuma dismayed over Kenya attacks

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has expressed dismay over the hand-grenade attacks in Kenya this week, the international relations department said on Wednesday.

"The government is deeply saddened by the loss of life and critical injuries resulting from these attacks," spokesperson Clayson Monyela said.

"The government condemns in the strongest possible terms these acts of terrorism aimed at maiming and hurting innocent people."

On Monday, hand grenades were thrown at crowds of Kenyans at a nightclub and a bus terminal in Nairobi. One person was killed and about 20 others were wounded in the two attacks.

Monyela said the department was in contact with the high commission in Nairobi and monitoring the situation.

Tusubiri nchi nyingine za Afrika kufanya hivyo na sio kukaa kimya mpaka "wa-magharibi" wachukue sheria mikononi mwao na ndipo tuanze kulalamika/kuosha vinywa eti oh NATO oh sijui nini, ati ilikuwa hivi n.k!

Questions are been asked: Is our military up to this task or have they been “fattening” in the barracks?

Where does Kenya’s ethnic Somali community fit into the equation?

To start with, I am immensely proud of our military. As another retired officer wrote, I wish I was part of the action.

The notion our neighbours have about our military lounging in the barracks is wrong. They are not entirely to blame though as the military does very little to educate the public.

A country is like a three-legged stool. The three crucial legs are the military, the economy and the body politic in its entirety (sovereignty, geographical, strategic importance).

Without any of three ‘legs’ a country cannot stand. The military is usually referred to as a ‘state within a state’.

It has all the elements of being self contained, with its own medical, religious, educational officials, among others. It also has engineers, lawyers, accountants, media and other professionals.

It is noteworthy that the Kenyan military mans the many banditry and cattle rustling hot spots in the northern Kenya.

These operations serves as a good training grounds. Kenyan military training is heavily based on the British and American systems and is therefore world class.

Very few countries in Africa have achieved these standards, especially being 100 per cent manoeuvre compliant (modern warfare ready).

The troops are therefore expected to put the training into practice and adapt swiftly to any situation.

People see the several potbellied soldiers, who almost entirely are non-combatants, and assume all soldiers are like that.

They should know that the fighting units, commonly referred to as the ‘Teeth Arms’, are physically very fit.

And a delicate element of ‘Operation Linda Nchi’ is the fact that Kenya has its own Somali community that shares many things in common with their cousins across the border.

The Kenyan Somali community will be pivotal to winning this campaign against Al-Shabaab.

While it has a few bad eggs that help sustain the groups network and finances in Kenya, many of them are patriotic, sensitised and incorporated in this fight.

This operation has nothing to do with the Kenyan Somali community or Islam as a Religion; it is a war against a terror.

After all, the community will be the greatest beneficiary of a pacified Somalia Republic.

Lastly, Kenyans should not antagonise the community by statements, which may seem to brand members as sympathetic to Al-Shabaab.

Mr. Codezilla, while supportive of Kenya's decision, I find your boasting ill-adviced and lacking careful prior deliberation. Hereunder is why.

You claim that:
1:It is noteworthy that the Kenyan military mans the many banditry and cattle rustling hot spots in the northern Kenya.

  • With all due respect, manning banditry and cattle rustling is no litmus test for determining how strong a national army is.
2.Kenyan military training is heavily based on the British and American systems and is therefore world class.

  • This reflects inferiority complex and lack of confidence. Being based on the British and American systems does not equate to being of world class. That is just an illusion, a false assertion in the field of war.
3.Very few countries in Africa have achieved these standards, especially being 100 per cent manoeuvre compliant (modern warfare ready).

  • Again, here you are making a statement that sounds hollow as you have not provided any credible evidence to support your allegations.
I could go on an on analysing your rampant and defensive statements but as for now, I wind up here!

However as I said, I wish Kenyans success in their quest to find a permanent solution to this Al Shabaab menace.

Hizi ndio mahakama zenu kupatia ushahidi.

Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. FILE | AFRICA REVIEW |

By ABDULKADIR KHALIF in MogadishuPosted Wednesday, October 26 2011 at 19:40

President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has maintained his opposition to the presence of Kenyan troops in Somalia.

During a meeting held Thursday at Villa Somalia, the State House in Mogadishu, President Sharif repeated that Kenya was wrong in sending troops into Somalia.

The Head of State hinted that Nairobi's action amounted to a breach of Somalia’s sovereignty.

President Sharif issued the statement following his meeting with Cabinet members.

Somalia’s Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali agreed with the President, dismissing any reports to the contrary.

On Monday, President Sharif stated that Kenya was required to limit its assistance to Somalia to training the government forces and provision of logistical support.

Somalia’s Defence minister –cum-Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Arab Issa, read out an agreement reached with Kenya, when Nairobi ministers visited Mogadishu recently.

Mr Issa stated: “The Somali Government and the Kenyan ministers only agreed to tackle the fighting against Al-Shabaab jointly by Kenya supporting the Somali forces.”

The Somali minister on October 18 hosted his Kenyan counterparts, Moses Wetang'ula (Foreign) and Yusuf Haji (Defence) in Mogadishu

My friend, I participated in the 1978-79 war against Iddi Amin, and will always be proud of that. I am sure you were not even born at that time (I can tell from your language). So you better keep quiet!
