Kenya declares war on Al Shabaab!

Kenya declares war on Al Shabaab!

On the other hand, if this is true (Press TV report) then it will add to the cacophony of voices from the doomsayers who have pointed out from the onset that this operation "Linda Nchi" is ill advised and will most probably end up in a quagmire. Fighting alongside the TFG soldiers is like taking a risk as the possibility of being betrayed by some elements from within is high. AMISOM troops have suffered badly from this in the past.

I saw this piece at PressTV website with a chilling comment from a Somalian:
Xussen

Somali soldiers who align themselves with TFG which is hostage to colonial powers know who their true enemy is...so they will fight side by side with the Somali population including the Shabab movement of Somalia.

Let's hope Press TV is also wrong this time.

Hey you Mekatilili would you please stop derailing this thread with your wounded pride? Don't you have some kenyan forums where you can post your bullshit? Why do you have to hang around this Forum with your stinking fart?

When are you going to stop behaving like a retard, for God's sake? No wonder there is no equivalent of Jamii Forums in Kenya, and there will never be!

I hope the Mod is monitoring your incendiary behaviour.

HAHAHAH You have been praying for a gag for ages now but unfortunately I am still here like a thorn in your flesh to point out your xenophobic faces. You are a coward, suffering from inferiority complex and I have to be honest very childish and misinformed too. You have time and again brought up issues about Kenya and whenever your lies are pointed out you start whining and asking for your mother to protect you.

You, an idiot that explicitly wrote of how you want to see Kenyan blood are asking for the moderators' help???? I sure do hope the moderators listen to your plea for help and then your vitriolic and hateful statements will be viewed.

I am here to show you what the reality is. You brought up Kenya's economy and we established how we are miles apart. Alongside the other goons who rally around you in ignorance you danced around your military but we established with a budget of $160 million dollars for your 27000 strong military you are simply too broke and can not afford to go war with your 60 working tanks purchased in 1978. We pointed out you are a relic of your ujamaa past and it is amazing that you are actually online given you 8 hour power rationing schedule. Inferiority complex is what ails you.

You should direct you anger to your government for leaving you among the poorest nations in Africa incapable of any meaningful achievement save for the numerous witch doctors you have stationed all across East Africa. Even Rwanda a country that is still reeling from a genocide is miles ahead of your country. You schools are churning out semi illiterate desperadoes who can only whine and point fingers at everyone else around them that is developing and leaving you in your darkness. Kenya has undertaken massive infrastructural development projects despite the 2008 conflict and emerged with world class infrastructure but what have you achieved since 2007 apart from the numerous graduates of your sorcery academies.

The Kenyan military has made tremendous progress in Somalia. We have swept through their land flushed out Al shabaab yet your country has not done a thing despite the fact Al shabaab has violated your territory and hijacked ships there time and again. You are living in denial and should direct your anger to your government for your failure and your fellow albino body parts traders for your sorry state of being. You are a big mouthed 162 million dollar army where a soldier takes home less than $100 dollars a month, We are a $1 billion dollar army and we simply can not compare the two.

Lastly you mentioned the Kenyan presence on the internet... I will adress that despite the fact you will start yapping about derailment yet you brought this up, as of March 2011 there were over 15 million kenyans online, with access to the internet either via mobile devices or computers and our population stands at 41 million. While there were less than 2 million Tanzanians online despite a population of 42 million. As a programmer I am an authority in this field and let make you aware of the fact Kenya is the ICT capital of Africa. There are thousands of application written by Kenyans, from Ushahidi, Open to the mpesa platform but I am yet to hear of a single Tanzanian led application development project. Kenya has the cheapest mobile rates in Africa, the fastest and cheapest internet in East Africa and did I mention we are building a brand new city from the ground up to serve as the ICT nerve center of Africa? http://www.konzacity.co.ke/

That is why major Tech firms like IBM, GOOGLE to MICROSOFT have made Kenya their African headquarters. WHAT ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY?
We have been setting up these types of websites for years now and i understand it is damn annoying to find out you are stuck in the age of web 1.0. So, with all due respect to this wonderful website, jamiiforums, is a simple phbp based site that my 15 year old brother can set up by selecting a style and personalizing it via HTML within hours.

You blinding hatred and Inferiority complex makes your point of view pitiful to say the least. Al shabaab is on the run and so are you!

@Mekatilili, I have no more time for mazafakas of your type. I know your empty pride is wounded and I hereby decide to ignore your imbecility to avoid a further waste of time!

Kenya is the perfect breeding ground for homegrown Al-Shabaab terrorists

By RASNA WARAH
Posted Sunday, November 6 2011 at 20:00

I don’t know why everyone is surprised that the first Al-Shabaab terrorist to be arrested and jailed in Kenya is not a Somali, but a young Luhya man from Western Kenya.

Kenya is a perfect breeding ground for terrorists and suicide bombers because it has the two ingredients that make recruitment to terrorist organisations so attractive – a high unemployment rate among youth and widespread corruption.

Impressionable and unemployed youth who have nothing much to look forward to can be easily lured to become terrorists, if presented with incentives such as money or a better afterlife.

Jobless, dejected and disillusioned youth may find the idea of becoming a martyr to a cause attractive. Some may become terrorists just for adventure.

Corruption ensures that would-be terrorists escape the security dragnet easily.

I wonder how many Al-Shabaab have got away scot-free at police checks and border posts by parting with as little as Sh200.

The problem is compounded by the culture of impunity that is pervasive among our leadership.

Young people who see leaders get away with grand corruption may feel emboldened by their immoral actions.

All those youth who might have benefitted from the Kazi ka Vijana project, for example, but who were robbed of millions of shillings by corrupt officers in government are potential Al-Shabaab recruits.

If we cannot see the link between government corruption and the growth of home-grown terrorism, then the national project of eliminating Al-Shabaab in our midst and across the border in Somalia is going nowhere.

Corruption, incompetence and lack of respect for ordinary citizens are the conditions under which terrorism thrives.

Eritrea protests against Kenya threats
kenya+eritrea.jpgPresident Isaias Afwerki's Eritrean state has been accused of sponsoring Al Shabaab, a Somali militant group associated with the Al Qaeda terror network. Kibaki’s sentiments underline concern about the threat posed to Kenya’s security by Al Shabaab.

Eritrea has protested at the threats by Kenya to review ties, intensifying the diplomatic row between the two countries ahead of a much-anticipated meeting of their foreign ministers.

A statement from the Eritrean foreign ministry dated November 5 described as "regrettable" Kenya’s implied warning that Nairobi will view the alleged arming of Al-Shabaab by Asmara in a very serious light.

Foreign minister Moses Wetangula’s warning followed last week’s reports that three planes loaded with weapons for the militia landed in Baidoa, an Al-Shabaab stronghold. Reports said the arms came from Eritrea, but Asmara vehemently denied it.

As a result, the Eritrean foreign ministry has released a statement protesting Mr Wetangula’s remarks.

“The government of Eritrea finds extremely regrettable the remarks attributable to the foreign minister of Kenya, Moses Wetangula, regarding the fabricated story of Eritrean arms shipments to Al Shabaab in Somalia,”
the statement notes.

“The comments were unfortunate particularly in light of the expected visit of the Eritrean foreign minister to Kenya,” it added.

Mr Wetangula declined to comment on the statement, only stating that he was looking forward to the visit by his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed.

The statement from Asmara also noted that the visit by the foreign minister would “not only clear any misunderstanding but (also) enhance the relationship between the two friendly countries.”

The itinerary of the Eritrean minister remained fuzzy on Monday with even the ambassador to Kenya Beyene Russom reporting that he had no information.

“He will definitely come but I don’t have the details of his itinerary,” said Mr Russom.

So much for calling yourself a programmer! If you still M-pesa is a kenyan innovation then you are exactly what you are branding others-deluded!

Mr. Programmer go and check out about M-pesa app...I think Michael Joseph is still laughing for fooling people like...do you even known where the M-pesa platform is based,Mr.Programmer?

We are happy that a majority of the Tanzanians on this website are not filled with hatred as the goons below. Sample the vitriolic comments that have been made about Kenya on this website regarding the Alshabaab invasion. It is one thing to have a pissing contest over the respective military prowess but it is another for some posters here to call for the killing of Kenyans despite the fact the spectacular xenophobic reaction is expected.

Al-shabab will be knocking on our doors soon.
PressTV - 'US drones fly from secret Kenya bases'

Wakenya hawawawezi Al Shabaab.

Yes the ICT HUB, and yes a very good programmer I am. I gather your profession is 'ujamaa analyst' I have nothing against day dreamers so lets talk.

Oh, you are back. last time we were talking about world war 2 and you were talking gibberish about how wars were fought and lied over and over again about the fact and then when you got busted you dropped off the face of the earth! glad to hear from you.

Less than 3 Kenyans have wadded of the attack from over 10 Tanzanians on this thread so one more is a piece of cake. My qualm with these fellows is the lies they have been spreading and the vile comments left here about Kenya. You are unable to put up a good debate and even when it comes to a fight you are weaklings to say the lest.

Your attacks mirror the ones of a gang of 10 year old prepubescent boys and your minds seem to wander from one point to the other with no clear objective in mind. The signs of goons suffering from Inferiority complex.

You have attacked so many parts of the Kenyan fabric and my response to you all has been
"Look, we might have issues but if we are to put your society under the spotlight for a second, the fact is you live in a Ujamaa utopia."

Whining, crying and lying comes naturally to those of you here who are not honest enough to admit that you are just infuriated by your own backwardness. So I am that thorn in your flesh that will always remind you that the subject of this thread is the al shabaab war and not the spilling of Kenyan blood and how a few goons relish in that thought.

Can we continue on the world war 2 in relation to this war sub topic or will you finally admit to manufacturing 'facts'.

Mr inferiority complex, the King of the goons and the liars, ever since you made your back handed comments about terror and destruction in the streets of Nairobi, I have been on you like white on rice. Face it we can not compare the two countries so you are safer sticking to the low blows that you have perfected about the operation in Somalia.

You have brought up education, ICT, the economy and all sorts of fundamentals of our respective economies and I have provided you the facts that show you are a relic of your ujamaa past the most underdeveloped among the East African States and you have not responded to the facts rather you started whining and calling me names. Well I know some 'bad words' too but that will be a bit mean of me. So your silence is acknowledgment that you are still in the middle ages.

Back to the war we are well into our 4th week of the operation and have pushed the alshabaab further north and we are just about to finish this off so there is still time to participate in this jihad. I hears there are specials on the Dar es salaam - Kismayo route. great airfare discounts. Pre- black friday sale!

My God!Do you really know the history of Japan?Do you actually follow the story of Chechnya and Russia? How many russians have been blown up within russian soil...until you understand that you will never know the true cost of a war.US fought in Afghanistan and Iraq and we are all seeing the decline in her economy...

After the power of the emperor was restored after 1869, Japan began opening up more to the world and modernizing along western lines. After watching China being bullied by the western powers, Japan launched a military moderinization. They modeled their navy along British lines and their army along Prussian/German lines. The Navy and the Army both held more sway than civilians in the government and often premiers (basically like a prime minister) would be an officer in the military.
The Emperor technically was an autocrat, but the emperor, considered God-like didn't actually rule in a way like the Russian Tsars or European monarchs of the past, but in fact held councils and gave advice to his ministers.

In 1905, fighting over who would be the dominant power in Manchuria and Korea, Russia and Japan went to war and Japan's modernizing proved successful as they easily defeated and humiliated the Russians, destroying virtually the entire Russian Navy at the Battles of Port Arthur and Tsushima.

At this time, Japan was an ally of Britain and when World War I started in 1914, Japan was a member of the allies and defeated some German ships in the Pacific and took over some German colonies along the Chinese coast. At the end of the war, Japan got screwed, basically, and they felt the West had no respect for them.

In the 1921 Washington Naval Conference, Japan was a participant, but wasn't granted battleship and carrier tonnage that would be on par with Britain and the US, this further convinced the Japanese that the West had no respect for them.

By the 1930's, Japan had become an empire, a modern nation and hungry for more land, more control in East Asia and access to natural resources. So in 1937, they invaded China, which irritated the west (although not Germany and Italy), particularly the United States, who felt that most of China was in the American sphere of influence. During that period, in order to regain influence in Manchuria, they fought a brief and disastrous war against the Soviets.

All of this, especially the need for natural resources like Rubber and Oil put them on a collision course with the West, particularly Britain, the US, France (who controlled rubber in Southeast Asia), and the Netherlands (who controlled oil in Indonesia).

Therefore Japan was not the impoverished nation you claim it was. It was the strongest nation in the far east. It is worth it to know the facts before bringing anything up!!!!!!

Indeed talking of honest!Burundi and Djibout can afford sending troops to Somali while a country that has been playing a major role in Africa liberation can't!Your fellow came up with 33 years calculations,I told him to check his history,Do you even know of the Comoro experience?Michela Wrong in her book,'It's our turn to Eat' said when it comes to international issues your media never gets it right so am not surprised that you don't know about that.
Have you read anywhere that a ship bound for Tanzania or in Tanzania waters ever been captured? Our Navy is protecting our waters efficiently.

Funny you are not even aware of Somali pirate attacks in Tanzanian waters:

BBC News - Somali pirates hijack ship off Tanzania
Somali pirates have hijacked a cargo ship with 15 Indian crew off the coast of Tanzania, a maritime watchdog said.

The MT Asphalt Venture was heading to Durban after unloading its cargo of bitumen at Mombasa, Kenya, when it was attacked about 110 miles (175km) south-east of Dar es Salaam.

THIS IS WHERE WE LEFT IT OFF THEN YOU RAN AWAY ONCE YOU REALISED YOU HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON. MAYBE THERE WAS ONE OF THOSE EPIC BLACK OUTS AND POWER WAS JUST RESTORED BUT I AM AWAITING YOUR RESPONSE ON THIS AND YOU HORRIBLE HISTORY OF WORLD WAR TWO AND JAPAN

Kenya sets a brave example
By Reuters

The major military offensive, including aircraft, which Kenya has launched against the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabaab militant/terrorist group in Somalia is fraught with both danger and opportunity.
Kenya mounted the operation 11 days ago, retaliating to persistent al-Shabaab raids across its border and the abduction and killing of foreign tourists and aid workers.
Kenya acted out of justifiable self-interest as the attacks against tourists are jeopardising its tourist industry, which is a major component of its economy.
But the incursion is extremely perilous because it has already provoked retaliatory terrorist attacks by al-Shabaab against Kenyans inside Kenya. That is how it operates. Last year it detonated two bombs in Kampala pubs, killing several civilians, to avenge Uganda's participation in the African Union peacekeeping force Amisom which is defending Somalia's fragile transitional federal government against al-Shabaab.
But Kenya really had no choice, even though the al-Shabaab atrocities against Kenyan civilians will undoubtedly continue.
And now that Kenya has taken the plunge into open confrontation with al-Shabaab, it has no choice but to go for broke; al-Shabaab is already provoked; now Kenya has to eradicate it from Southern Somalia and so destroy its ability to retaliate. That seems to be Kenya's intention, and then some.
"The objective is to diminish al-Shabaab so that they cannot fire a single round and to allow the Somali federal government to take over security for the people of Somalia," said foreign ministry spokes-man Emmanuel Chirchir.
That statement enunciated an aim beyond just protecting Kenya, to include also striking a fatal blow against al-Shabaab to help the Somali government destroy its mortal enemy.
The Kenyan offensive also seems to have the potential to help the wider international community by capturing Somali ports which pirates, often acting in cahoots with al-Shabaab, use as springboards for their attacks against international ships passing through the Gulf of Aden and beyond.
The piracy problem is growing both in intensity and range as the pirates hunt further afield to avoid the international naval fleet patrolling the Gulf to protect shipping.
Even South Africa is being drawn into the fight against the pirates as they extend their attacks into the Mozambique Channel.
But as long as the pirates' bases remain safe, other measures to counter them amount to little more than treatment of symptoms.
Now the Kenyans have started over-running those bases, raising the real prospect of rooting out at least the major, southern part of the piracy scourge, root and branch.
There are legitimate reservations about Kenya's actions, most seriously the numbers of Somali civilians who have reportedly been killed in air strikes.
Nonetheless it is encouraging to see an African country taking such decisive military action to eliminate a threat to itself, its neighbour and, perhaps, the wider international community.
African governments have too often sat on the sidelines criticising others for taking up arms against vicious forces; the most notable recent example being how the AU, and particularly South Africa, condemned the Nato-led military coalition for its air campaign against the forces of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The criticism of Nato was a classic African example of "we cannot or will not do anything about this so you must not either".
Kenya's decisive action is in sharp contrast with the armchair military strategising which ignored the obvious fact that Gaddafi would still be at the helm and killing democratic opponents if Nato had not helped Libyans oust him.
The remark of Macharia Kaman, Kenya's ambassador to the UN, resonated beyond this particular conflict to the entire continent; "What's the point of having a military if we can't even protect our own borders?"
If the AU had the sort of competent, effective military capacity it aspires to – or perhaps just the political will and leadership to mobilise national militaries – this would be the moment to back up Kenya's initiative with a much greater force to stamp out the al-Shabaab threat once and for all.
Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

Al Shabaab Once Again Threatens Kenya

Mogadishu — The Al shabaab Islamist movement on Sunday repteated its threatening messages to neighboring Kenya whose forces are battling the group's fighters inside the horn of African nation.

The spokesman of Al shabaab group, Sheikh Ali Mohamoud Ali Rage, better known Ali Dhere made the comments while addressing to hundreds of people after performing congregational Eid Al Adha prayer at Mogadishu's Daynile.

He said if the Kenyan forces don't stop bombarding the residential neighborhoods in southern Somalia, Al shabaab will strike Kenyans.

The spokesman of Al shabaab also talked about reports saying Murusade, one of Hawiye sub clans, do not support the group, and noted that the sub clan is standing and ready to give moral and material support to Al shabaab.

Wasn't this guy pronounced eliminated by KDF some few days ago?
He is still alive. Today the KDF spokesman, through his Twitter account, denied that 15 Kenyan soldiers have been killed by Al-Shabaab.

@MajorEChirchir: #OperationLindaNchi the following headlines are NOT True, 15 KENYAN TROOPS KILLED IN SOMALIA,US, KENYA AIRSTRIKES KILL 64 IN SOMALIA

As was the case with Libya, psychological operations (PSYOPs) have begun in earnest. It is hard to tell which side is telling the truth!

ERITREA PROTESTS AGAINST KENYA THREATS

“The government of Eritrea finds extremely regrettable the remarks attributable to the foreign minister of Kenya, Moses Wetangula, regarding the fabricated story of Eritrean arms shipments to Al Shabaab in Somalia,” the statement notes.

“The comments were unfortunate particularly in light of the expected visit of the Eritrean foreign minister to Kenya,” it added.

The Red Sea state has denied accusation that it is arming the Somali insurgents and reiterated the same in the latest protest letter.

“Eritrea had on Wednesday replied to the sensational and ill-motivated allegations stating categorically that they were false and baseless. Eritrea had also affirmed that it could not and would not send arms to Al-Shabaab as it firmly believes that there could be no military solution to the problem of Somalia and given Al-Shabaab’s well-known antipathy towards what it calls a ‘secular Eritrean state’,” the statement added.

Artist hands out yellow baloons to commuters in Kenya
Posted on November 7, 2011

The APs Tom Odula reports on a fascinating story of how Kenyans are countering the effect of the terrorist group al-shabab. Yellow baloons were distributed, near a bus stop by an artist in honour of a Kenyan killed by a grenade attack carried out by al-shabab recently. The baloons are apparently meant to put a smile on the faces of commuters while they go about navigating Nairobi’s rush hour.
