Moi sons, Biwott lose to newcomers

Former President Daniel Moi sons Raymond and Gideon lost to newcomers in Rongai and Baringo Central parliamentary seats to ODM candidates.
And immediate former Keiyo South MP Nicholas Biwott's 28-year hold on the constituency came to an end after he suffered defeat at the hands of a political newcomer.
Neophyte Jackson Kiptanui Kamai, 38, pulled a major surprise to fell a giant when he upset the self declared ‘Total Man' beating him hands down with over 20, 000 votes.
Kamai, vying on an ODM ticket, was declared the new Keiyo South MP by presiding officer, Joseph Mibei, after he garnered 30,830 votes against Biwott's 9,483 who ran on Kanu.
Biwott's perennial political rival, Tabitha Seii who stood on a Kenda ticket failed to make an impression and garnered only 226 votes.
Raymond, who was vying under a Kanu ticket came a distant third with the second place going to Jack Waihenya of PNU. Luka Kigen clinched the seat by garnering 20, 812 votes, against Waihenya's 13, 937 while Raymond got 12,888.
Gideon Moi lost the seat he inherited from the former president to Sammy Mwaita of ODM.
There were celebrations at Rongai Boys High School after the Returning Office Ms Monica Cheruiyot declared Kigen the winner. His supporters broke into pro-ODM songs and lifted him shoulder- high.
"I am so happy I have won and thank the people of Rongai for giving me a chance to serve them," he said.
Elsewhere, William Ole Ntimama has retained his Narok North seat, beating his closest rival, PNU candidate Moitalel Kenta by 6174 votes. He got 27,814 votes, Kenta managed 21,640 and Martin Kamwaro 12,180.
Fred Kapondi of ODM won in Mt Elgon, an area that has suffered from tribal clashes for the better part of the last two years.
Labour minister and former Lurambi Member of Parliament Dr Newton Kulundu has conceded defeat. Kulundu called the Standard Newsroom and announced he accepted defeat as a democrat. He however complained a number of anomalies in some of the polling centres in the area.
"As a democrat, I accept the outcomes and urge my colleagues who have been beaten to follow suit," he said.
Former Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala was also defeated by a Nairobi based lawyer Ababu Namwamba of ODM. Namwamba got 11012 votes against Mr Wanjala 7180 votes in an election that was marked with high turnout.
