Kenya: KRA intercepts gold worth Sh100 million at JKIA

Kenya Revenue Authority officials have intercepted gold worth Sh100 million at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.

At least 32,255.50 grams of gold bars and an accompanying invoice of the amount were found on a 46-year-old Tanzanian man.

In a statement on Wednesday, the taxman said the suspect was seized following intelligence alert after arriving at JKIA on February 16.

He was on board Precision Airlines from Mwanza via Kilimanjaro and was heading to Dubai aboard Kenya Airways.

The unidentified man was seized by KRA customs officers and a team of security agencies attached at the airport.

The gold bars are under the custody of KRA's Customs and Border Control as investigations to get to the details of the case continues.

True,GoK will stick to the right procedures considering that JKIA is a transit hub and strict guidelines must be followed.The consignment is in safe govt's hands and will be held in custody till the rightful consignor/consignee are established. The Tanzanian fellow might just have been a paid courier who never knew or thought of declaring it to customs even if legally acquired or to the airlines for insurance/security purposes of the valuable cargo with him.

Umesema ya kweli, dhahabu yao ipo salama, tungekuwa na chuki ingekuwa ni vingine. Ila kwa unafik wa watz, sioni wakija kuitisha mali yao, na wakija wataitisha kwa aibu na uoga mwingi sana! 😀

Ngoja nikueleze wewe Mkenya, Despite Regional conflicts Usalama Wa Nchi zote mbili hauingiliwi hata kidogo that's why unaona Majeshi ya Kenya Yanakuja Tz kufanya Military drill.. Mfano Urusi na Marekani wanachuki tangu miaka na miaka but that doesn't make them not to share and cooperate technologically ..
