Nafikiri we ni mgeni ktk forum ya EAC hususani humu KE ila sio mbaya Hawa ndugu zetu wa Kenya walishawahi kuleta UZI humu JF wakijinadi ya kuwa wao ni developed country na sio developing country kidogo ilitushitua ss wang'amuzi wa mambo ya maendeleo, watu na mazingira iliongeza curiosity ss pita pita yangu nikasikia makala ya redio Dutch vede hidhaya ya kiswahili ... wakisema ya kuwa KE ni nchi maskini ndio nikawaletea hapa hii taarifa kwa hawa ndugu zetu,..kwa swala uelewa wa umaskini binafsi naelewa sana umaskini upo hata US na naelewa umaskini uliopo ndani ya nchi yangu

Poorest country in what measure?
- we feed ourselves,
- we build new railway systems with our own money,
- we fund our biggest project (the electric dam),
- we build another phase of BRT,
- we buy new planes with cash,
- we design our own roads, bridges, skyscrapers and fund them with our own money.

Oh, BTW all these happening concurrently.
 
Hapa motanzania ambayo imezoea propaganda na kupumbazwa hawawezi kubali, report ya radio it can come from an opinion from someone's thinking, it ain't necessarily factual, lakini ju wameone DW ama iwe BBC, basi ni sawa., umefanya vyema kuweka concrete facts. Ni aibu kwa nchi kama Tanzania to be ranked such low in extreme poverty index.

In Summary

Poverty rates have declined dramatically since the early 1990s but the rate of decline is now decelerating.

While Kenya is now among the sub-Saharan African countries described as lower middle-income, this has not helped close the poverty gap between the rich and the poor.

Sub-Saharan Africa has little or no chance of achieving the United Nations target of having not more than three percent of its population living in extreme poverty by 2030, according to a new World Bank report.

While rates of absolute poverty have declined dramatically across many parts of the African countries since the early 1990s, the rates of reduction are now decelerating.

The report says that in 2015, the last year for which detailed government statistics are available, more than half of the 736 million global poor resided in sub-Saharan Africa and more than 85 percent of the poor resided in either SSA or South Asia.

Poverty gap

The World Bank says about 368 million people — half of the total extremely poor — lived in just five countries: India, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh. They also happen to be the most populous countries of South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

However, the rates of poverty reduction are far greater in South Asia than sub-Saharan Africa, leading the World Bank to declare that this year Nigeria will overtake India in terms of having the most people living in extreme poverty; that is, living on less than $1.90 a day.

“Simulations show that, as the number of the poor continues to decline in South Asia, the forecasts based on historical regional performance indicate that there will be no matching decline in poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.”

In East Africa, Tanzania has more people living in extreme poverty, some 21.9 million, followed by Kenya at 17.6 million and Uganda's 15.8 million.

While Kenya is now among the sub-Saharan African countries described as lower middle-income, this has not helped close the poverty gap between the rich and the poor.

Global poor

By 2030, the share of the global poor residing in sub-Saharan Africa is forecast to be about 87 percent, “if economic growth over the next 12 years is similar to historical growth patterns.”

Around three quarters of the 43 countries with poverty rates above the average of 18 percent are in sub-Saharan Africa, where average rates stand at 41 percent.

The report states that “many of the countries with high poverty numbers, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Kenya, and Nigeria, have grown their economies out of the low-income-country status and are now middle-income countries.”

The World Bank notes that there remain “significant challenges to reaching the goal of a world free of poverty. Meeting the global target of reducing extreme poverty to less than 3 percent will require substantially greater efforts … By 2030, under all but the most optimistic scenarios, poverty will remain in double digits in sub-Saharan Africa.”

The global poverty estimates are based on household surveys from 164 countries.

Atasema East African newspaper ni ya Kenya., mtafutie report sahihi from other sources, pia South Africa na Nigeria wako na hii report saw in their news, Nigeria walikubali nao wameamua kuweka mikakati ya kupambana na hali yao., lakin Mitanzania na umasikini jeuri hawajakubali, lao ni waone Kenya tukoje ili wajifariji, badala ya kushughulikia hali. Tatizo mnatumia vipimo tofauti kupima kitu kimoja.

Dola moja kwa Tanzania ina uwezo wa kununua vitu vingi kuliko Kenya, kwa hiyo huwezi kutumia upatikanaji wa dola moja kama kigezo cha umasikini bali uwezo wake wa kununua. Hao masikini wa Tanzania wengi wao wana mashamba na nyumba zao kitu ambacho wakenya masikini hawana.

Such deliberate ignorance!!!., Tanzania moja, your revenue is clear, can't even finance national budget, which has a bulk of recurrent expenditures, and other basic needs like health, education etc., haya mengine no obvious porojo ya CCM., did you check your debt to GDP?., and the GDP is around $55B., do the maths wacha pang'ang'a za abunuasi., huu ujinga wa Watanzania una kera wakati wote. Hamuwezi bebwa ujinga miaka hii yote, kwanza hii karne!!

Tatizo sisi waafrika hatuhoji maswali ya maana, tunapelekeshwa na kukubali tuu, kwa kuwa ni UN.

Kutumia kigezo cha dola moja/mbili kama kipimo cha umasikini, si sawa. Kipimo halisi ni uwezo wa hiyo dola kuweza kutumika (PPP) kati ya nchi na nchi.

Hapa US kula vyakula vyenye Afya (Organic) ni gharama sana, watu wengi hawamudu. Maziwa ya kawaida (feki), kwa mfano; Walmart wanauza gallon moja (3.7liters) kwa $1.8 wakati organic milk (real) $6.8. Sasa mtanzania wa kawaida anakula kila kitu organic, kuanzia nyanya, machungwa, mchele n.k. Sasa kama ukichukua kila kitu anachokula mbongo "masikini" na kulinganisha bei yake US utaona watanzania wengi siyo masikini kiivyo, kwasababu wanamudu mahitaji ya kula chakula cha hadhi ya juu (organic).

Sasa badala ya watu wetu kuhoji hivi vipimo vya umasikini kulingana na nchi husika, tunakubali kukokotwa kama mkokoteni, kisa UN kasema.

Umeongelea hali ya nyumba wanazoishi n.k lakini tunarudi pale pale, hizo nyumba zina madeni mpaka utosini. Watu wanaishi paycheck to paycheck, tatizo dogo likitokea mtu anakuwa homeless, sasa utasema hiyo jamii ni ya tajiri?
