Somethings are best marketed East African. Mfano wiiderbeest annual migration spectacle neither Kenya nor Tanzania can lay claim to sole ownership.
Kenyan tour operators accuse Dar of unfairness *- News*|theeastafrican.co.ke its is getting bad and shameful for tz every country is accusing us.
There is only one Mt Kilimanjaro and tourists are coming from all directions i.e Dar, Nairobi, etc. And challenge is how you generate income while protecting the environment? The best way to achieve that is to increase the fee and lower the number of visitors. So far so good!
It would be the dumbest thing to think that by restricting visitors and increasing fees will actually increase your revenue collection from tourism. I think there is much confusion of policies and ideas between tourist ministry and the ministry of environment in Tanzania. FYI, what would normally degrade the environment of parks is increased human activity like encroachment of parks for activities such cattle grazing or rotational farming, and nothing to do with an influx of numerous visitors to game reserves.
My advise to your question of how to increase visitors while protecting the environment would be intense marketing!!

Here is a simple solution to you Kenyan tour operators: mnapofanya arrangement ya kupokea hao wageni wenu ambao wanavuka kuja Tz, fanyeni mipango na tour operator wa Tanzania ili mnapofika mpakani wahudumiwe na watanzania na wakimaliza visit zao hapa Tz mnawapokea tena hapo mpakani kwenda huko kwenu.
This is ridiculous!! let me speak us a professional and practitioner in the tourism industry....we have no problem paying the $200 for our vans, but we are enraged by the fact that its only in Tanzania that we are asked to pay this unjustifiable fee by the Tanzania govt.just after spending our time and money to market Tanzanian tourism products.
You must understand most tour firms in Tanzania are foreign owned. In the tourism industry..Tanzania has the most unskilled, unprofessional and unrealiable workforce in the region. If it were not for Kenyans running and marketing your industry you would have got a raw deal from the industry just like in your mining industry.
From what you people are writing here only shows your ignorance on the subject and it would be better if you would just keep quite. There is nothing Tanzania has that Kenya does not have, when we it come to beaches, wildlife and exicting physical features we have. Our expertise in marketing led to Masai Mara becoming a world wonder..when it has the same features like Serengeti. You responded by planning that bogus road project through Serengeti and the main reason being,-not because it was a genuine development initiative but -envy simply because the Mara was outshining Serengeti.
Uganda and Rwanda pose a threat because of their gorillas, still they have given us very encouraging rates inoder to attract tourists to their countries.I remembrer sometime back Museveni asked why would they charge visitors coming to Uganda when they are cooming to spend their money in the country!?..this has really encouraged small operators like us to even afford to develop and market an East African Package..something that could not happen before.
By charging $200,you may feel happy because of this, but you are the loosers..because we have options remember! the tourists that would have spent on accomandation, travel, amusement parks etc woulg go somewhere else.In Kenya One tourist coming into the country creates atleat three jobs, and i believe the same applies to Tanzania,so jobs are created in another country.....
We do you a favor by marketing and bringing tourists to your country..dont be decieved and feel proud that you attract "high end tourists" this ones benefit huge and multinational companies not an ordinary Tanzanian..mass tourism benefit the masses because they visit areas ,a huge spender cannot visit and this interection with the locals benefit the community and in turn brings repeat business.
Now your opinion of Kenyan companies start sister companies in Tanzania is welcome but the challange is getting quallified Tanzanians to run the firm, one must be forced to import human resource from Kenya, this again will subject this talented young stars to harrasment from immigration officials! the work permit ,blah blah etc
Tanzania must rethink on what you want to gain,no country can survive by itself, you need other countries to trade, but i dont know why you glorify stupidity, ignorance, mediocrity, and laziness under the guise of patrriotism.when will you wake up and i am sure many of you that contribute here are just as poor as any other Tanzanian.
We are bulding your economy but you dont see it,your do not have a fuctional Airline,we wanted to run one for you but you forced us to partner with one of your tycoons through Precision air,Fly 540,Air kenya, east african safaris will continue serving you lazy, incompetent and vision less people..
Yes Mt Kilimanjaro is Kenyan you know that!! soon we will adopt Serengeti, that is why we are building an airport in Taveta..to drain traffic from your main airport at Dar...the worst is you can do nothing about it!! we can manage to stop your road project in Serengeti..but you cant do anything about the our airport project in taveta and yet it will negatively affect your economy!!..you do not have the guts!!
You talk we act!!..we will continue paying your fee..but we will end up being the main beneficiaries of your tourism industry....
MY TAKE
Ukawaambie Kibaki's Govt ambayo ina Masai Mara isiyo na Environmental Management Plan ili kulinda their encroachment activities na si the Serengeti iliyo World Heritage Site! A dumb guy like u who doesn't know anything about the environmental state in Masai Mara will rant anything just to defend his dumbest demands! BTW in the Serengeti the Masai have lived for centuries and still allowed u to see the Serengeti in their current state till when the Masai in Kenya tried to cross with their cattle during drought in Kenya the good thing is the GOT intervened to block them with their mass migration! Ur the dumbest person ever n yet u claim to know! Do u know how many cars move to the Serengeti on daily basis do u know their carbon foot print value? Do u know their trampling (stamping) effect?
Now we would normally assume that increased visitor presence is a hindrance, but certainly nor sir. Now, how is the carbon foot print value a deterrent? That to my terms would be negligible, and I do not think that will have any effect on a thriving ecosystem. Now to stop Kenyan Masai migration and to allow Tanzanian Masai migration within Serengeti is double-speak, given they both have a non-sedentary lifestyles.
IMHO; Serengeti is a world heritage site and Masai Mara is the "eighth wonder of the world", but both have been carefully conserved through time and the drought patterns at the Mara is seasonal, so this will ultimately make the wildlife seek pastures down south. Kenya has KWS (Kenya wildlife service) and KFS (Kenya forest service) working to ensure the environment within the Mara is conserved plus local and international conservationists.
good reply moyo, the govt of this forum has jammed my post after getting sensational creeps of what i was about to spray on that page. They prefer it Kenyan vs Tanzania so let it be the dance. The 200$ tag is nonsensical, for a moment were it not for Kenyas effort the wildbeast migration would never have been a wonder. Its coz of Kenyas hardwork in marketting the mara that the status of the mara was elevated. Tz were only joy riders. How comes wen we do the costly marketting there is no cost sharing then some slow guys come and say we are ripping them off...absurdity of the highest order. How does a nation rely on Kenyas flagcarrier (a neighbour) to ferry tourists to Tz? in other words you expect we market Kenya+Tanzania again then you charge our tour operators this stupid border fees? You talk, Kenyans act.
this is a very stupid pride eight wonder from voting fans who r lame like u? can u compare an ecological value of a UNESCO World Heritage site to that? U r real an ignorant person i'm sorry to tell ur knowledge of things is so low don't keep on disgrace urself! Carbon foot print means the CO emission per car that moves to the Serengeti NP n in a daily basis there r an estimate of not less than 500 vans that move to the Serengeti! Those cars r enough to us!
This one UNESCO is about to strip its title cause of LAPSSET! n even if it status stays; there is no NP in the whole of Africa if not World that can be compared to the Serengeti on its ecological value get the fact fool! that's why u cry a river over it...The only thing that Serengeti overshadows the Mara is size and nothing more. Now in kenya we have many unesco heritage sites e.g the old town of lamu and the fort-jesus just to name but a few. Now that carbon emission would not have any effect more than what a proposed highway and its completion would have on the status of the ecosystem. you do not need to be told that would lead to Increased human activity and threaten to obliterate wildlife from their rightful and respective location.
Umelazimishwa kuwaleta?
If u can't afford paying ...warudishe huko masimara si mna kila kitu? And mind you, no one has asked you to build our ecconomy..

BTW those animals r called wildebeest n not wild-beast! Pili ****** yako ati Kenya marketed wildebeest migration! so u become Good Morning America show at CBS news?
