Kenya Vs Uganda:The Migingo Island Controversy.

Kenya Vs Uganda:The Migingo Island Controversy.

Mnairobi, you should go to the ugandan forums and pour these threats to them. they are of no use to we tzs. sisi hapa tuna amani zetu, hatuna haja ya kujua kama mtapigana au la, au kama mna nguvu kuliko uganda au la, tis none of our business. this is the reason why tz is delaying to the east africa federation or whatever you want to call. tis because of these childish things between you and your fellow ugandans.

hapo ndo mtatuona sisi wabongo tuna akili.

Bro why dont you tell that to the tanzanian that posted this thread in a tanzanian forum. if it is non of your business why was it posted here?????

Kenya's has termed the invasion by Uganda Forces at Migingo as inconsequencial and termed Uganda Soldiers as babies.Major Jeremiah Kianga who was addressing journalists in Nairobi yesterday said Kenya will not send millitary to the island and when challenged to explain more he said General Service Unit officers were upto the task. While saying the millitary will not be involved in such an operation,he said that Uganda was acting irresponsibly when all countries were acting to reach an agreement on abolishment of boundaries. He said though that his soldiers were ready to move to the island if
Uganda could not withdraw but also insisted that GSU were ready to act

Hii habari ni yakusikitisha. Mipaka ya nchi za Afrika iliwekwa na Wakoloni katika miaka ya 1860 (1864?) wakati wa kinyang'anyiro cha Afrika (The scramble for Africa) huko Berlin.

tehetehe, if Uganda is no match with Kenya, mbona mmenyamaza kimyaaa, you have no such history, you are hopeless and helpless babies. tis because, instead of working to improve your lives, you waste your time fighting each other to welcome a ten million people with famine and starvation. how often will you keep on asking for food from other countries? si mkae mlime mashamba yenu? kiburi kikubwa wakati mna njaa. you should have asked uganda to give you food before you insult them as babies. wenzenu hawana njaaa. nyie mnao uwezo kufinance vifaru ambavyo hata kuvitumia hamjui, badala ya kununua mbolea kwaajili ya raia wenu ili njaa isiwakute. akili yenu iko wapi sasa wakenya?

the Kenyan military is internationally respected for its peace keeping missions. it us a very profession army. We are quite because you do not respond respond to a mosquito bit with a hammer, a tiny slap may be necessary . i say send the GSU or better still send a couple of anti riot police men, that will do the trick.

sasa na wewe, unayekataa mipaka, una akili gani. ungekuwa unaishi kule tarime, ningekuambia uwape walau eka moja wakenya waje waishi hapo kwenye ardhi yenu kama mipaka haina maana. mipaka lazima ilindwe mzee, na wakoloni walifanya la maana. hata kabla ya wakoloni, mipaka ilikuwepo kati ya makabila. kama mipaka hamna, kingdoms zitakuwepo vipi? si lazima ziwepo dermacations? we vipi bwana.

Uganda agrees to withdraw troops from Migingo

Uganda has agreed to withdraw its security forces from the controversial Migingo island, which is claimed by Kenya.

Instead, the two countries will carry out a joint survey to determine in which country Migingo, one of three adjoining Islands of the same name, lies.

The agreement was reached at a meeting of ministers from the two governments in Kampala on Friday. The ministers, meeting late into the night in Kampala, said they the reached agreement in the spirit of the East African Community.

Uganda has stationed its marine police on the island since 2004 who have been arresting Kenyan fishermen venturing on the island. Most recently, Uganda demanded that Kenyans start paying residency fees.

The two countries have agreed that there will be an immediate withdrawal of security forces from both countries from Migingo island.

They also agreed to a joint boundary survey in two months and that there will be no further harassment of fishermen from both sides. They also acknowledged the validity of pre-independence boundaries. Sources in the meeting said there had been heated exchanges between the two sides before an agreement was reached.

The Kenyan delegation included Cabinet ministers George Saitoti, James Orengo, Moses Wetang’ula, Otieno Kajwang’ and the Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba.

The tiny Migingo Island at the centre of dispute between Kenya and Uganda is among three others in close proximity. It is sandwiched between two other larger islands -- on the East and West.

The two larger islands, barely metres away from the tiny Migingo belong to Kenya and they are not inhabited. These two are not being claimed by Ugandan. The disputed island is a rocky and rugged piece of land with no vegetation.

From the semi-arid town of Wajir, 24-year-old Abdulzak Abdullahi, could not have come across fishing in his early days, but today he ekes a living from the trade.

Migingo is a gold mine as it is said to be home to the highest concentration of Nile Perch in Lake Victoria. The fish which is much sought after in the international market fetches a fortune in exports.

Tales abound how fishing activities on the tiny island have turned struggling traders into overnight millionaires

You see deploying troops would have been an over reaction

ugand, kenya and tz all have air force. they just don't want to reveal their secrets to you. if they are not good at that, why do they have that confidence to step into your island? after all, what is airforce for? hata kama uganda wangekuwa hawana airforce, hako kandege ka kizamani mlikonunua nyinyi wakenya kanaweza kudondoshwa na kombora moja tu na hamna ndege tena. unafikiri air force ndo pekee kupigania vitani? kweli akili yako hopeless. kama mnataka kukapoteza hata huto tundege twa kizamani, pelekeni vitani mkaone wenzenu wanavyozifurumua na mtabaki na historia ya kutokuwa na airforce.

the only salvation you can get is from your ubama, bila hivyo, ninyi hamna uzoefu, hamjui kupigana na mtapigwa mkiigusa hata somalia tu.

YOU PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE AN AIRFORCE I REPEAT YOU PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE AN AIRFORCE!!!n What you have is some old Fighter planes from china i think they are called Chenyang 5 which are a stolen technology from the 1955's Russian MIG 20's or there about. They are rarely seen in the Air due to serviceability issues if you don't believe subscribe to magazine called Jane Defense Weekly you will be so ashamed at what you see but of course you have to part with some very high fees but the information is so worth the price tag.
You do not have attack helicopters not one and when i say attack helicopters i mean real attack helicopters not some funny one used by politicians.
The good thing with us Kenyans we can back our statements with facts you on the other hands you rely on hearsay.
About the issue of a Kaplane you say we have i want you to tell us which type it is, that is if you have the balls, what i expect from you however are some nasty issues of how we Kenyans are arrogant, have you for once ever stopped to ask yourself that maybe just maybe your definition of arrogance and what you see as arrogance has a totally different meaning to us

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said he regrets the row between his government and Kenya, over ownership of less than an acre Migingo Island in Lake Victoria.

"It is a shame to argue over a small a territorial dispute. We should be fighting for the creation of one country called East Africa," Museveni said, while fielding questions from journalists on Friday at State House Nakasero, Uganda.

"Our small States remain backward and unable to compete because of borders created by colonialist who fragmented Africa to their benefit, and inherited.

"East African States have delayed integration into one country to form one big market and break all trade barriers to spur development and competitiveness in highly globalised world," Museveni said, as a ministerial meeting aimed at resolving the deepening dispute went on.

Later in the day, Kenyan and Uganda delegations led by Foreign Affairs ministers resolved to undertake a joint comprehensive survey using boundaries set by Kenya Colony and Protectorate (Boundaries) Order in Council, 1926.

Fishermen are said to have sparked the row that saw Uganda deploy hundreds of troops since late January on the island, and two others on Lake Victoria.

The other islands are Usingo Island considered Kenya’s and Pyramid Island in Tanzania.

Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile and the lifeline of millions of people in the 12-nation strong riparian region and the Nile Basin may be destined for a similar fate if the current wanton destruction of forests and water towers that feed it continues unchecked.

Declining fish stock in Lake Victoria coincides with the worrying drop in water levels in the lake, but strikingly, Migingo Island has maintained steady stocks of Nile Perch.

Drought, famine, ethnic violence, embezzlement and mismanagement at National Cereals and Produce Board have left 10 million Kenyans in the throes of starvation even as experts envisage an unusually long dry spell.

Nafikiri Museven atakimbillia kulekule alipokimbilia Idd Amini!

its ok if we dont have airforce, its because we dont need it. we do not have enermies and even those small ones which we could term them as our future enermies, like kenya, we can fight them and smash their heads without an airforce. you are too babies for us to use airforce. it is just like that, we don't have modern airforce because we do not have enermies. why shoudl we waste money to buy them than use to buy food to feed our people? than you buying them while your people are hungry? by the way, i think you bought them for mungiki and other people who would oppose the kibaki, but not enermies from outside.

............................te he he he he.. you dont have 'enemies', when you wake up from that slumber, remind me to list them for you...
Its shameful for a supposedly learned person to try and say that his/her country does not have modern military facilities because it presumably doesnt have enemies... shame, shame, shame my brother..

It is difficult to comprehend the logic of prioritising the buying of expensive amunitions in situation of extreme poverty!

The famine you constantly cite is seasonal, brought mostly by the Post election polls and natural factors like rain(or the lack of it), its not like we are always in deficit on our food production.
I usually wonder what you mean by extreme poverty, you usually insinuate that Tz is somehow better off than Kenya, that is where you go wrong my brother, and its at this point that we usually lock horns. the poor in Tanzania are undergoing the same plight as their counterparts in the whole of Africa, no noticeable difference whatsoever.
Poverty is no reason to stop a country from protecting itself , The military have their own allocation in the budget which they use accordingly(buying modern arsenal). I know your defense budget is low compared to ours, but that does not in anyway justify your criticism.

Hawa jamaa hawana kazi ndio maana wanatafuta kungombana kusiko na msingi, wamezoea vita kila siku

Uganda sends army to Migingo

In Summary

* Neighbouring state sends troops after it agreed on pull-out as experts survey island
* Soldiers are armed with sophisticated weapons, according to beach management unit official

Panic gripped the disputed Migingo Island on Lake Victoria on Sunday following the arrival of members of the Uganda People’s Defence Force to replace the marine police who left the area last week.

The armed team arrived from Bugiri District aboard a Fisheries Department boat.

This appears to be in defiance of the recent Kampala meeting between Kenya and Uganda that resolved that the security forces be withdrawn until surveyors determine the exact location of the island in two months.

The 13 plainclothes UPDF soldiers toured the island, apparently to familiarise themselves with fishing operations going on.

“We are worried that somebody within the government does not seem to be interested in the implementation of the Kampala resolutions. Instead of withdrawing their people, Uganda is simply tightening its grip,” said Mr Paul Odhiambo, a fisherman.

“The soldiers told me they have come here to stay and guard the island. Our government should not think this Migingo issue can be wished away because it will determine the continued relations between these two East African nations,” said Mr Juma Ombori, the Migingo beach management unit vice-chairman.

“It is not clear why this additional group has come to Migingo at a time they are expected to clear from the island,” he said.

Mr Ombori said some of the UPDF soldiers were in the first team that came to the island early this year. The soldiers are armed with sophisticated weapons, he added.

Fresh tension

As fresh tension gripped the island, a marine police boat belonging to the neighbours capsized mysteriously. Uganda’s national flag and one belonging to the marine continued to fly on top of makeshift structures throughout the weekend.

But Gwasii MP John Mbadi said the Ugandans should leave the island immediately as was agreed in the Kampala meeting to pave way for work by a joint team of surveyors.

The MP was optimistic that the dispute would be resolved by the experts picked by both countries.

DAILY NATION - Uganda sends army to Migingo

We are simply sick of this old mans theatrics, to me he is another Mugabe, trying to massage his overinflated ego by public show offs. i see no reason for him to trash a gentleman's agreement. Kenya should deal with these boy scouts from across the pond once and for all, send the GSU or something.. we should get rid of this geezer once and for all, he is a setback to development in Africa.

you just call them scouts. but they have at least done something to you. you have done nothing to me because you are coward. Kenya is not strong at all and you can not fight with Uganda, just lay your guns down and ask mercy from m7.
