(Mwaka 2016, wakulima wa Korosho waliwaomba wanunuzi wao wa nje kutoa kiasi cha fedha (ruzuku) ili iwasaidie kuzalisha zaidi. Wafanyabiashara hao walikubali na Wakulima kupitia chama chao cha ushirika walifunga mkataba na Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), ili wawakusanyie fedha hizo. (TRA) katika utaratibu wake, fedha hizo waliziita (Export Levy). Msimu wa mavuno 2017/2018, mavuno yao yaliwaingiza shilingi Trilioni moja na billioni miatatu (1,3 Trilioni). Mwaka 2018, serikali ilipitisha sheria ya kuchukuwa Export Levy (fedha za wakulima) kuwa mali yake.

Serikali pia ilidhibiti mashamba ya wakulima na maghala yao ikajitangaza kuwa mnunuzi pekee kwa bei watakayo. Mwisho wa tukio hilo wakulima walipata hasara kubwa na kuzidi kudidimia katika lindi la umaskini): Kwa muktadha huo kiwe chama kitakacho heshimu jitihada za wakulima chenye sera bora za kilimo na kuwasaidia Wakulima kupata pembejeo kwa bei nafuu na soko huru la kuuza mali zao.

Mr Muthomi said there has been a growing demand for fruits during the pandemic where the avocado is being recommended for its high alkaline content.

“The high export numbers can also be attributed to an increase in avocado acreage and quality of the fruit being produced by our farmers. We are excited by the prospects of rising demand for the fruit,” Mr Muthomi said.

He said the average price of a four-kilogramme pack of hass avocados is Sh350 and is expected to hit Sh450 as supply in other parts of the world declines.

Mr Gideon Gitonga, an avocado farmer, said while demand had declined early in the year, more buyers were calling in to buy from him.
In the last six months, Kenya exported 45, 737 tonnes of avocado to the European market.

Kenya is ranked among the fastest growing avocado exporters in the world having overtaken South Africa in production.
