Efforts to get a comment from both the ministries of foreign affairs of Kenya and Rwanda were futile by press time.
According to a diplomatic source who did not want to be named because he is not allowed to speak to the media, Kimonyo was thrown out of Nairobi on charges of espionage and supporting subversive activities.
He was reportedly expelled with the Rwandan embassy first secretary in late January 2019, on the ground that the two were supporting subversive activities.
“Both countries kept quiet on the expulsion. Since early February 2019, Rwanda hasn’t been having an ambassador to Kenya” A source said.
“Up to now, Rwanda has quietly been negotiating with Kenya for Ambassador James Kimonyo’s re-admission in the country through refuting all allegations forwarded by Kenya”.
Rwanda has been accused of carrying out assassinations against its opposition in different capitals across the world.
For the past years, Rwanda’s DMI agents have been expelled from Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Sweden, Belgium, U.K, DR Congo and Malawi in the hunt against those who question to Paul Kagame high handiness.
On March 9, 2019 in front of his entire nomenklatura, 21 years after the assassination of the late opposition leader Seth Sendashonga killed in Nairobi on May 16, 1998, Kagame confessed to the political murder and expressed fresh death threats towards his key opponents. It was not the first time he is bragging about his own reasons to kill his opponents.
He said that the kiss of death was decided after he knew of a meeting between late Sendashonga with President Museveni’s brother General Caleb Akandwanaho in Nairobi.
“Seth Sendashonga died because he has crossed the line and am not apologetic”. But he did not mention that, even two years before, his first hit man, an Embassy staff Francis Mugabo, missed the head and shot him in the shoulder almost at close range on 26 February 1996.
His critics say the fact that Kagame continues to claim, without accountability, some of his political assassinations shows his arrogance towards the Rwandan society as well as the international community which continues to shine with its inaction towards the Rwandan genocide, war crimes, massacres and assassinations of opponents.
“We very seriously consider the death threats towards the opposition leaders and take this opportunity to express again our disappointment at the indolence of the international community in relation to crimes committed by General Paul Kagame and his entourage”
Tanzania while expelling DMI agents in 2013 also expelled more than 10 thousands Rwandans who were living in the Country in what Tanzania’s Internal intelligence agency termed as “cleaning up operation.
