Kenyans deported from Tanzania encounter difficult times

What pissed me off the most during my time in Kenya were the occasional "my country is better than yours" arguments. Otherwise Kenyans are some of the most welcoming people I've met. And selfish. I don't know how they manage to combine the two qualities. "You're welcome but you're on your own"....haha

Hard work without food? You are starving kila kukicha mnaomba chakula alafu unasema hardworking hehehe labda kuplot ujambazi

Welcoming based on your ethnicity sio welcome any goon

I get a kick out of these arguments...At the end of the day we are still 3rd world countries...If you are willing to invest in their country and in their people they have no problem..Their socialization is different from ours...

Kenyans don't hold that kind of hate towards tanzanians. Number plate za Tz zimejaa pwani ya kenya, hakuna mtu hua anawasumbua, not even the police...

A a Tanzanian living comfortably in a foreign land, if the account is indeed legit, I condemn this myopic and grotesque harassment of legal immigrants with the strongest possible terms.

The current government is not only discriminating against naturalized Tanzanians and legal immigrants living in Tanzania, it discriminates unfairly against Tanzanian nationals living in the diaspora.

You are among the few enlightened Tanzanians on JF. Your brothers on here are full of themselves forgetting that the world is interdependent. Their lack of exposure or alternative comparisons blinds their focus if any.

The entire concept of nationality as bestowed us since the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 following the Thirty Years War (1618- 1648), a curiously foreign notion of statehood and sovereignty, especially in its most unnatural rendition facilitated by colonial interests, is not only very awkward, but also impractical.

Granted we have accepted these borders and lived with them for years, but do we have to squabble over these made up nationalities even when the rules of the new game allow for otherwise cohesive coexistence?

I for one consider myself a citizen of the world, on matters like these, I would often be reminded of an Albert Einstein saying.

When describing the negative aspect of nationalism, most probably because of first hand experience of how the Nazi machine exploited nationalism to attain its darkest desires in Germany in particular and most of Europe in general, Einstein said "Nationalism is an infantile disease, it is the measles of mankind".

I would like to separate myself from such a diseased notion, and let the beacon of reason give me the tools to rid myself of all myopic ventures whose outcome could only be in the saddest annals of unintended consequences.

Geza Ulole njoo hapa. Najua sasa utasema hili basi lilichomwa kwasababu utingo alikuwa mtanzania. Usilete sitilesi zako hapa jf!

Nice read! I wish this could be translated into simple Swahili for the proponents of this toxic nationalism. imposed on us. Colonial powers were out for an easy ride by Divide-and-Rule and now we Africans have even perfected it by dividing-and-misruling!

On the flip side, a good number of Tanzanians are wary of Kenyans in the age old sense of "these guys are encroaching on our land/jobs/women etc" which is petty and parochial for someone who has traveled the world and live in the US . But to locals, it is their worldview.

I have perspective on how the US used immigration to its advantage. I was listening to the BBC World Service today, they had an episode describing a very complicated surgery procedure, essentially the surgery was to remove a tumor that was growing on an unborn child. There were only four hospitals that have a record of having done this successfully in the entire USA.

The woman went to one of these hospitals, the leading doctor who was directing a team of surgeons on this mission was a Nigerian Dr . originally from Lagos. That reminded me of another Nigerian doctor, Bennet Omalu of the movie "Concussion" fame the guy who basically presented solid evidence that American football causes mental issues. The woman eventually got the operation done. This made me think, all these Nigerian doctors are probably trained in Nigeria for years, then the Americans just take them at the peak of their careers.

Granted, not every Kenyan immigrant is a rock star neurosurgeon, but still,if someone has married a Tanzanian citizen and get citizenship, starts a family etc, it is just cruel to uproot him.

As a Tanzanian immigrant abroad, I can see the injustice in that. This could very easily lead to retaliatory moves and we don't want that.

I am thankful that where I am, to a good extent, people are more open about immigration and there is a good number of immigrants from everywhere. Frankly that makes the place more diverse and vibrant.

As long as people immigrate legally into Tanzania, they should have the full protection of the law.

My worry is that, it is quite conceivable that agents of the law are the very people harassing immigrants.

Hehe Kijana kweli umesoma. Wewe tu ndio Mtanzania nakuvulia kofia. Najua hupendi nationalism but it is a fact of life
